3 Sickness and Distress:! Louis and Robert Emory lost their father. He passed away early on Sunday morning.!! Vic Stewart was admitted to St. Peter s to treat a urinary tract infection. But now it has expanded into a serious blood infection.! For many of you with this is old news. Nick Jacobia was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on August 14. He underwent various tests in preparation for open heart surgery to repair or replace two or three valves. Meanwhile, his wife Chris was staying at the Best Western in Concord, since it was only going to be a few days.! However the test revealed an excess of fluid, which could lead to complications with his liver. They did a liver biopsy, drained some fluid and put him on diuretics to reduce the fluid. Surgery scheduled for the 17th was postponed until the Monday the 20th.! Chris came home over the weekend and then moved to a hotel near the hospital with a special rate, breakfast and shuttle.! Through all of this Nick s spirits have remained high. Monday arrived and the team was still not pleased with his condition and moved the date to Wednesday. Finally, 5:30 AM, Wednesday morning he went for preparation for a 7:00 AM start. The surgery would take between 6-8 hours. Once he was in recovery there was still some bleeding so he was returned to the OR to find the source. He came back about 11:00 PM and everything looked good. He would be under observation for 1 or 2 days.! Thursday afternoon they put him back on the heart-lung machine to help the right side of his heart and drain some lactate from his system. He was stable, but critical. Friday he lapsed into a coma and his liver enzymes were not where they should be.! Tuesday morning we receive the news that Nick passed away. Glad Tidings: Congratulations to Ken White who has been appointed our Deputy District Grand Master for this term. If you are able, please join us for his apron presentation on September 26th. In addition he has also been elected to receive the 33rd Degree at the 2019 Annual Session of the AASR NMJ. In the middle of June, Bernie Maskell fell and hurt his back. It has been a slow recovery, still a little ache, but it is feeling better. From Lou Emory, We closed on our new home on June 25th in Troy. The pregnancy is going well Thank God. Baby is doing fine. She said "Yes" when I got down on one knee and asked her on August 5th. We are planning a Tuscan wedding in Oct IN MEMORIAM Bro. Nicholas C. 5 Poet s Corner: The Beach We walk along a quiet beach in early morning haze When the tide is at its lowest, its quiet, calmest phase. It seems the beach goes on for miles as far as you can see, There has to be an end some place, wherever it may be. You marvel as you gaze along the disappearing strand, How land and sea are parted by this fragile strip of sand. The gently lapping water and the sound of distant gulls, The salty spray that wets your face, a place that never dulls. The early morning quiet, and the glow of coming light, Is a time of quiet beauty, like the setting sun at night. The weather beaten dwelling long deserted on the shore, Hearkens back to days gone by, to lives that are no more. The beach brings many memories of the days of long ago, When we walked along as lovers in the early morning glow. Far off days are brought to mind, while walking hand in hand, When we two walked together, leaving footprints in the sand. The footprints that we left behind while walking in this place, Were only fleeting traces that the tide would soon erase. But our feelings for each other will go on forever more, And can never be erased by the tides that wash the shore. William E. Ogren July, 1995 PAGE 5
6 Tales of the Ring HURRICANE KATRINA My wife, my three month old son and, myself had evacuated from Gautier, Mississippi to the Dallas Area to escape Hurricane Katrina. Upon my arrival, I ed some of the surrounding lodges to look for some fellowship. All three lodges responded and welcomed me to their lodge as though I was a member of their lodge. I was invited to several floor schools to show me how "Texas does it" and to help me with my proficiency. They received me with open arms and made me feel as though I was among my home lodge in Mississippi. When my wife wanted to gather aid items to take back to Mississippi, the lodges immediately rose to the occasion. Those three lodges provided so much stuff that I had to take a trailer load to the Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Collection Center so the excess could be used to help the evacuees from New Orleans in the Dallas area. My thanks goes out to the Estelle Lodge No. 582 A.F.& A.M., Grapevine Lodge No. 288 A.F.& A.M. and, Hurst Lodge No A.F.& A.M. who truly taught this, then newly passed, Fellowcraft what relief, charity and brotherly love really means. It just goes to show you that, no matter where you are, you are among welcoming and helpful Brothers. William "Jeff" Lucas (FC) Singing River Lodge No. 633 Gautier, Mississippi, USA Summer Events Wadsworth Lodge has not been idle over the Summer. The Master lined up several events. Some went well others not so much. We started with a Valley Cats game, which was well supported. We had proposed an Arena Football game, but there was very little interest. He, also, proposed two nights attending the Play in the Park productions of Damn Yankees and How to Succeed in Business, Without Really Trying. These garnered a meager attendance despite being free on the lawn. Paul Baum organized a mid-summer get together to meet some of the prospective candidates. As always this was well attended. No doubt a tribute to his culinary talents. The Annual Picnic was on a rainy Sunday, what were the odds this Summer. There was a good turn out. We only had three quarters of a Pavillion, they were repairing the roof. Some felt we should have received a rebate. The highlight of the afternoon was a visit from the Rensselaer County Search and Rescue Squad. They demonstrated of some of the work that they perform. Finally, Ken White has instituted something he has long envisioned. The Old 17th Cup Golf Tournament. PAGE 6

9 Greetings from Camp Turk From Rayann Hunt (Ray Gaul s grand daughter) Thank you so much for allowing me to go camp! I had so much fun and hope I can go next year. Camp Turk is by far the best summer camp I ve been to. Thank you for giving me money for the candy shop. From Joslyn Hunt: Thank you for helping me go to Camp Turk. I had so much fun! I liked swimming, but it was very cold! My favorite food was chicken nuggets. The lodge sponsored four campers this year.
