1 CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS, WORKERS AND SHOW CHAIRS FOR OUR VERY SUCCESSFUL 2014 SHOW! Remember, this is the final meeting of the current GCCG season. You will receive your next newsletter in September, announcing the first program of the new season. May 2014 Is Party Time! Date: May 16 th, 2014 Time: 5:30 PM for room set up. Party starts at 6:00 PM with plant sales and cocktails. Place: The San Mateo Garden Center, 605 Parkside Way, San Mateo Take the Alameda de las Pulgas exit off Highway 92. Turn south. The Garden Center is located between 26th and 28th Avenues. Program: Our last meeting of our blooming season will be a party celebrating a very successful year! As if that were not enough to fill an evening, we will be privileged to hear a new speaker, one of our own members, Kevin Hill. Speaker: Our speaker this month will be Kevin Hill from San Francisco, with the topic "A Discussion of Flower Pigments". Kevin has a PhD in genetics and works as a biotechnology patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His perspective on growing orchids is strongly influenced by his scientific background in developmental biology and genetics. He finds thinking about the genetic basis for controlling color patterns and shapes of the petals, sepals and lips of orchid flowers to be a fascinating challenge. Kevin has been growing Cymbidiums since He is a probationary AOS judge and nominated as a new Director on the GCCG Board for the year. GCCG POTLUCK DINNER GCCG will provide turkey, honey-baked ham, coffee and soft drinks. Members should plan to provide their own plates, utensils, napkins and beverages of choice. BRING A FRIEND!
