This will help your furnace run cooler and cleaner. If you re going to have a fire in your wood stove or fireplace please have your chimney cleaned and inspected for your safety. Also, please check your CO detector and smoke alarm regularly and change the batteries if you haven't already done so. We do make house calls, but prefer not to. Rizk, Supervisor As I look back at the year 2015, besides the me flying by, it was a very good year looks very promising with some new businesses coming into Vienna Township and construc- on of single family residences are on the increase for the first me in 5 or 6 years. We are entering an elec on year and that brings with it increased ac vity in the township offices with absentee ballots and voter registra on. The year 2016 will bring new and revised township ordinances that will be enacted and enforced. Some of these will deal with garage sales and vehicle and rv storage as well as grass cu ng and other blight issues. The township has developed partnerships with some of the local churches and will involve them when needed for assistance in helping those less fortunate. I am looking forward to assis ng you at the township to the best of my ability. I remind you that I am available by appointment and would like some informa on as to the purpose when you leave a message. That will enable me to answer your ques on more efficiently. From the Desk of. Cindy Bryan, Clerk With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season now behind us, Clerks across the State and Na on are beginning prepara ons for a very busy elec on year. We have the poten al for 4 elec ons this year with the first of these occurring on March 8 th, the Presiden al Primary. This can be a somewhat confusing elec on for many voters and I will a empt to bring some clarity to it by providing informa on from the Michigan Bureau of Elec ons. This elec on is a closed primary just as it was in 2012 and as outlined in Michigan Elec on law, requires the voter to choose a Republican, Democra c or possibly a no-presiden al Primary ballot if we have any local proposals on the ballot. While a voter must select a specific party ballot, there is no poli cal party registra on in Michigan s voter registra on system and therefore the ballot selec on made by the voter, and only the ballot selec- on, will be public informa on a er the elec on. Besides the candidates listed on the ballot voters will also have the op on to vote uncommi ed for that poli cal party. For addi onal informa on in regards to the Presiden al Primary please visit the Michigan Bureau of Elec ons website. Other dates to remember are February 8, 2016, this is the last day you can register to vote in the March Presiden al Primary and if you plan on vo ng by Absentee Ballot and want your ballot mailed, you must submit your applica on to the Township Office by 2:00 pm on March 5, As always, please call the Township Office with any ques ons you may have. 3 NEWS FROM THE OFFICE OF THE TREASURER DAVE CAIN There are some very exci ng happenings in Vienna Township. The BDA is working hard to bring new business and keep the present business district looking good. We welcomed two new insurance agency buildings into the Township, and the possibility of a Hardee s restaurant and an O Reilly Auto Parts in the near future. New home construc on con nues to grow at a slower then desired pace, but growth all the same. The winter tax statements have been mailed, if you have not received a statement for your property please contact the Vienna Township office as soon as possible. Payments may be made in person, with check or money order, at the Township office, or at Independent Bank, 3500 W Vienna Road, Clio (through 2/16/16), or online at (there is a service charge for this service). The Township cannot accept par al payments for taxes. The deadline for winter tax payment is February 16, There is a 3% penalty for payment between February 17, 2016 and February 29, A er that date ALL 2015 property taxes must be paid at Genesee County Treasurer s office, 1101 Beach Street, Flint, MI , PHONE: (810) or For those business owners and qualifying individuals, Personal Property Taxes (PPT) will be sent out in December and due in February. Though they are gradually being phased out you are s ll responsible for any new and passed assessed PPT. If you have an outstanding balance I encourage you to contact the Township office to make arrangements for payment. The Township can take par al payments when it comes to delinquent PPT. It is the responsibility of the Treasurer to collect these taxes and by law is given the authority to seize equipment, or other belongings, to cover the cash value. Please don t let it get that far because no one wins in those situa ons. Check out the happenings at the Clio Area Senior Center. It is a wonderful place to meet old friends and make new ones. They are always looking for volunteers, new ideas, and new visitors, for fun and fellowship.
