1 Rocky Mountain Over The Hill Gang Hill Topics July 2013 Y all Come to Rambler Ranch on July 13! Rambler Ranch is part of a 165 acre estate owned by Terry Gale and Greg Kissinger near Elizabeth, CO. The 165 acre estate is a private museum with outbuildings and trails to explore, and is a chance to enjoy a day amongst friends and guests you invite to attend. The site will be open ONLY for our group on July 13. The cost includes a fee for entry to the Ranch and lunch. A BBQ catered by Famous Dave's includes: roasted chicken, Georgia chopped pork, Texas beef brisket, sandwich buns, corn bread, beans, potato salad, and dessert. Soft drinks, beer and wine will be provided. As a boy, Terry s favorite toys were his collection of matchbox, hot wheels and Tonka" cars and trucks, always dreaming of the day he could play with full size cars. In 1988 that dream became a reality starting with his dads '54 Ambassador that was purchased in the early 70 s by Dad for $50 from Krance Motors in Price Utah. Here you will find Nash, Rambler, and AMC cars from 1909 to each one lovingly restored to its former glory. Terry has a large library of old car magazines and many thousands of memorabilia. Terry's love of cars is not limited to Nash, Rambler & American motors. His collection contains 37 other manufacturers including at least one of each of these makes. DeSoto, Dodge, Chrysler, Imperial, Plymouth, Edsel, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Chevrolet, Corvair, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Geo, Opel, International, Studebaker, Kaiser, Packard, Allstate, Checker, Yugo, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Wolsley, Fiat, Mercedes, BMW, Vauxhall, Jeep, Bricklin, Funwagon, Citroen, Mitsubishi, Acura & Honda. BBQ at noon In addition to the cars, check out the working replica of a Kelvinator kitchen and Sinclair gas station. There are five major buildings on the grounds plus a number of outbuildings and garages. Seating indoors and outside provides shade/cover as needed, so join us on the beautiful park-like grounds of the Rambler Ranch. Specific directions to the site will be sent the week before the event. Entry available from 10:00 a.m. on ~ Location: Forest Trail Elizabeth CO July 5 th is the last day to register for this event, so go to the calendar at CMC.org. and sign up. Be ready for a delicious BBQ, an opportunity to check out interesting, artifacts and mingle with RMOTHG members and their guests. Remember, guests are cordially invited so bring them out to Rambler Ranch! Helping make good, sound decisions that help make our club even better. Learning more about the CMC and its mission. Helping decide how to spend our money. Being an ambassador for our club. Paying it forward to your club for all that you have been getting! Your Co- Board Members are easy to get along with. You are all on the same page. BOARD CANDIDATES NEEDED! We have 3 openings for our RMOTHG Board in September and we need some reliable candidates who are willing to run and come aboard. What s involved in being a Board Member? Well, there are 6 Board Meetings per year and one of those meetings is the Annual Dinner, with a quick meeting after the festivities are completed. The meetings are usually in the months of September, November, January, March, May and July. The meetings are usually held on the third Monday. The term is 3 years and begins in September. Lastly, you get to partake in awesome Pot luck feasts. There are many more reasons to run for the Board but I know that you have other things to read about in this newsletter, so I will stop. Please let a Board Member know if you are interested in running for our RMOTHG Board. Their addresses are listed in the back of the newsletter, or speak with them on a hike, bike or social event. WE NEED YOU! Hope to see you at Rambler Ranch, July 13. 5 CYCLING Hill Topics MAY 2013 PAGE 5 of 6 The biking season is in full swing with weekly rides on Fridays. It is a great group of welcoming friends who enjoy the exercise and fellowship of the outings. Most of our trips are on paved, level bike paths and average about 10 to 12 mph with stops. Occasionally we encounter some hills and gravel trails. Infrequently, we have a slower group when a volunteer leader RIDING TOWARD BEAR CREEK steps forward. The essential items for participating are plenty of water, necessary tools to repair a flat tire (replacement tube), appropriate clothing for changes in the weather, and carrying ID and a medical card. Wearing a helmet is mandatory. notices are sent out several days prior to the excursions to describe the weekly ride and the meeting location. A slower group will be announced in these s. An optional lunch will follow at a nearby restaurant. Most meeting times are 8:00 AM with departure at 8:30 AM during the hotter summer months. Guests are allowed with signing of a wavier form. Guests may participate in two of our activities before joining Rocky Mountain Over The Hill Gang (RMOTHG) section and the Denver Group of CMC. If you are interested in riding, please contact Pete Spandau by at bicycling.list@rmothg.org to get on the cycling list. Only RMOTHG members will be added to the list and you ll receive a weekly reminder for you to sign up at FUN PHOTOS FUN PHOTOS WANTED!
