PRESIDENT S NOTE: Michael Crusco I can't believe it's May already, but it s a good thing. Our activities are in full swing now with Run Through the Canyon details all planned out, our annual picnic confirmed with Byington and the paper work submitted to San Juan Bautista for approval of our mini show & shine. Many other exciting events are in the works as well. Check the website Events Page for all the details. I hope many of you can make the May meeting. One of our members Ron Vinsant has offered to bring in his weigh equipment. If you have ever wondered exactly how much your car weighs, you can now find out. The club is also covering the cost of lunch after the meeting. Chuck and I have been reviewing the By-Laws. We ll be proposing a few changes - nothing drastic, just looking to make some of the Articles more general to avoid having to make so many changes in the future. Any changes will first be reviewed by the officers and then presented to the club membership for approval. More on this at the May meeting. Well, I should have my car back in time for the May meeting. If you haven't heard, my water pump finally died, so I took my car over to Country Automotive. The owner, Smitty, and I have been friends for many years. We've often talked about doing some "under the hood" restoration to my car, but just never set starting date. So this seemed like a good opportunity. Well, one thing leads to another and the next thing I know, the motor is coming out. If you want to do the job right, the motor must come out. I'm still trying to keep this within my budget. Many of the big items are still original, so we pulled them off and sent them out to be cleaned up and restored. A lot of the little things like springs, clamps, hoses, fuel lines, etc. are also being replaced to make them 1969 correct. I also decided to drop the dash and replace the old idiot light gauge with an original SS tach and gauge package. I also had my old non working clock restored and setup with the quartz mechanism. Ouch, that was $200 by itself! Can hardly wait to get it

back. Hopefully I won't pass out when I get the bill. Willie has a new line of Club Merchandise including hats and sweatshirts. Contact Willie or Cindy Allen if you are interested in purchasing any cub merchandise. See ya at the May meeting VICE-PRESIDENT S NOTE: Chuck Bonasera Thanks to everyone who has registered early for Run Through the Canyon XII. It s human nature to wait until the last minute. I do it myself most of the time. It really helps to have an early count though, so if you haven t already, please register right now, if you can. I have been compiling the prize list and this will be an amazing Run. Original Parts Group and YearOne have given us a bunch of T-shirts and $ in gift certificates. We are sure FlowMasters will be back this year with another great give away. (Last year it was a complete exhaust system.) Eckler s Automotive is donating $ in gift certificates. Vic Hubbard will have some gifts and our pal, Vic Anderson at Victory Machine in San Jose, has donated a $ gift certificate toward restoration or engine machine work. We believe that this year s Run will have nearly $1,000 in raffle prizes plus the 50/50 drawing which should yield a nice, fat pot to be split with the winner, and don t forget the $ prize for the best poker hand! You d be crazy not to join us for the Bar-B-Q and Run. Ken Wible gave up tickets to see Crosby, Stills & Nash to attend this year s Run. (Well, OK, that make have been going a little too far.) Brad Kassabian of Kassabian Motors in Dublin, one of the corporate sponsors of the Run, called me last week to make sure we were on schedule so he could order coffee and pastries for us. I can t wait. Bring the family, but be sure to get your registration postmarked by June 13 th to save $10.00 on the registration fee. This will be a blast! At first glance, you might conclude that this beautiful, but sedate looking "grocery getter" is the picture of the American dream family car... But, you'd be wrong! Ron says the car had a 307 with a Turbo 350 when built at Kansas City, but that didn't last for long. It now has a Chevrolet ZZ4 engine with Fast Burn heads and a very HOT cam with FAST Fuel Injection. The suspension has been modified with a Global West Negative Roll package, The rear end is a bullet proof, Currie built, Ford 9 inch with a Detroit True Trac differential. The Brakes are Wilwood Superlight 4 piston caliper units with 13" rotors in the front 12" rotors in the rear. "Here's the fun part" says Ron "I get to go to the track and beat up on BMWs, Miatas, Porsches and other race cars on the road courses". For more photos and info on Ron s car, visit the Club Website and click on the Featured Car link! 3

THE GOOD GUYS SHOW Michael Crusco March 29th was the local Good Guys event in Pleasanton. As usual, the Club was well represented at this event with nine cars. Some members arrived later in the day and were not able to park with the early birds. Not a problem though, we still got to hang out together. I ve lost count of how many times the Club has attended this event. It kinda kicks off our season as the first big outing of the year. If you are a hard-core car show person, this is where you want to be. There are literally thousands of cars on display, a huge car corral, and a swap meet area with tons of used and new parts. We officially now have our own corner where we park our classics. It's conveniently called the ChevelleCaminos Corner. I wish that I could take credit for the name but I can't. I overheard several people passing by referring to our spot as "The Chevelle Caminos Corner". We will proudly accept that title. We enter the park from the back gate and travel through the tunnel, veering to the right just past the horse corral. We are up against one of the buildings, conveniently next to a gourmet coffee stand to make fueling up on caffeine easy. Bathrooms are just inside the building next to us for an added convenience. The Good Guys All American Get- Together car show and swap meet in Pleasanton - the place to be in March. See ya on The Corner next year! 4

APRIL MEETING AND CRUISE Patty Bonasera Our April Meeting was another rip-roaring success. Its pretty apparent that we re going to have to find quarters with a little more room if this kind of participation keeps up!. The beautiful weather obviously had folks ready to jump in their cars and go socialize. The premeeting gathering in the parking lot gave everyone a chance to inspect the results of all those winter projects. After the meeting, it was back to the parking lot for a little more hoods up time and tall tale telling. Prez Crusco finally got us rounded up for the cruise. Something like 16 cars and over 20 members hit the road and headed for Morgan Hill and lunch at the El Toro Brewery where the real fun began! Don t miss out on the good times be sure to join us at the next Club Meeting! 5

THE THE BENICIA BENICIA SHOW SHOW Patty Bonasera Patty Bonasera Last Last year year the the Benicia Benicia Classic Class Car Car Show Show moved moved to to its its new new location location on the on First the First Street Street Green Green and by and by doing so, became a car show that doing so, became a car show that could boast of scenery as could boast of scenery as beautiful as beautiful the cars as being the cars showcased! being showcased.. Nor-Cal ChevelleCaminos attended last year, but we didn t all pre-register and so we weren t able to park together This year, things went a little more smoothly, well sort of after, that is, Willie and Cindy Allen managed to track down the characters who demonstrated a serious lack of judgment by throwing a water bottle from their vehicle at Willie s car. With Ken Wible providing backup, Willie and Cindy made some fast detours through city streets until they got the license number of the offending Lexus. Uh-huh. Got a feeling somebody s gonna be sorry they messed with our former Prez. Once that little distraction was taken care of (and Ken s heart rate returned to normal) the cruise to Pleasanton was underway to meet up with the East Bay contingent and then an easy Sunday morning cruise to Benicia. The weather this year was even better than last year. No problem with fog from Suisun Bay this time. The day was clear and bright right from the get-go. Our first order of business breakfast, of course! Shunning the free pancakes, we headed across the street to one of the local restaurants. After filling up on omelets and coffee, it was back to the Green to check out the Vendors and wander among the dozens and dozens of classic beauties. In addition to the beautiful view, great music and fantastic cars, the show features hourly raffles and oh regarding those raffles. It s much easier to determine whether you have a winning number if you haven t absent-mindedly shoved all your ticket stubs into your empty water bottle while talking to your buddies isn t it Steve?!? What is it with water bottles, anyway?! 6
