1 West Rand Ulysses Times Est August 2017 SUNDAY BREAKFAST RUN 13 August 2017 Ride Report [Jackie] When I posted on Ulychat on Saturday, it was clear that the Members were all busy on Sunday and I may ride on my own... I arrived at Pinehaven just after 08h30 and found no Ulysses Member in sight. Well soon enough a friendly lady Teresa started chatting to me. We had been chatting on sms and a week before as her and hubby Kobus, were interested in join our Chapter. Mike Smith arrived soon after and Allan, on the BMW joined us as well. We decided on a favourite, Amanzingwe, as a venue. I took up the lead, with Mike and our guests following while Allan was sweeping. We had a pleasant ride, enjoying fresh air and open roads as there were not much traffic around, even on the Satellite road. From Left: New Friends Kobus & Teresa, Jackie [Treasurer/Secretary], Mike [Our highly respected Platinum Member], Allan [Sgt At Arms] At Amanzingwe we were greeted by a group of Crusaders and later a group from The Kin arrived as well. The usual small biker groups we also enjoying the sunny morning on the veranda. The food was good as always and the company great! Always nice to get to know new friends while Mike entertained us with some interesting stories. On our ride home via the Lanseria road, the traffic was much more so we were playing between cars to get to the top! We all arrived home safely. I popped in at Rob and Fin to say hi. Rides Official Chapter Sunday Ride - every 2nd Sunday of each month. Meet at Pine Haven Sasol Garage 08h30 for 09h00. Sunday Breakfast Runs - 08h30 to depart 09h00 from Pinehaven Sasol Garage All Year Round - where at least one member of the Committee will accompany the riders. [GPS S E ] Page 1
2 SUNDAY BREAKFAST RUN 06 August 2017 [Continued from Page 1] The Amanzingwe Lodge is a real hidden gem and we found out that our new friends had never been to it before. Amanzingwe Lodge - Wendy greeted us with a big smile ands asked how we would like our eggs done. I asked for a bit of everything on the omelette & Wendy served up what was found to be a very tasty Egg Omelette indeed. Whilst we were sitting at our table we noticed a small herd of Kudu come right up the fence, have a look at the people and then wonder off into the valley. Both Teresa & Kobus stated when we were about to leave that they both enjoyed the lovely Breakfast Venue and especially with it having such a tasty Breakfast Buffet Spread to choose from. I sure they ll keep this venue in mind for a future visit. Whilst on route out of Amanzingwe Lodge just had to stop to take photos of the wildlife close to the fence. The bike s exhaust didn t disturb them at all. Whilst one is riding along the narrow winding road to or from the Amanzingwe Lodge one must be on the lookout for game. On many occasions when we've been to the Lodge we ve see some of the different species of buck foraging or on one occasion even laying down very close to the fence and roadway. At least on a motorcycle one can pull off to the side leaving ample space for the passing traffic and so as to take a few camera shots. Whilst pulling over to get a photo in the group of riders would all stop ahead and wait for me to capture some photos and then catch up to the group before they proceeding further down the road. I was disappointed in that I was too slow getting the camera out and to take a shot of the herd of Kudu that were near the breakfast area just after our arrival. Next time I ll to have to fit the GoPro HD Camera to the helmet and on record whilst travel along the roadway - that way nothing will be missed. Page 2

6 Tips & Hints - CLEANING YOUR BIKE 1. Three critical things to avoid: - High Pressure washers. Never use pressure washer. You're cleaning a small surface area, not the side of a bus. You would require more precision to get a better result. - Sunlight. Never wash, dry and polish in direct sunlight. Direct sun speeds up the drying process even before you can properly finish each panel or section. - Washing up liquid/soaps. It will attack the finish on your bike, breaking down waxes and sealants. It's not designed with bodywork in mind, save it for your pots, pans & dishes. Beware washing up liquid also contains salts. 2. No sponges and the 'Two Bucket Rule': - A sponge has a flat surface area. Grit & dirt can become trapped between the paintwork and the sponge. Rubbing the sponge across your paintwork then drags these tiny particles along too and creates tiny scratches. In direct sunlight these will appear as swirls. So opt for a micro-fibre mitt instead. - You need two buckets. In one, you prepare your bike approved washing solution & the other just fresh clean water. When cleaning the bike, rinse out your micro-fibre mitt in the fresh water bucket before dipping it back into the bucket of washing solution. That will wash off a majority of excess dirt into the fresh water. You don t end up washing your bike in increasingly dirty washing solution. 3. Drying: - You must dry off your bike. A dry & clean micro-fibre drying cloth over a chamois or just a plain damp chamois. Place the chamois across surfaces like your tank, take it off, wring out the chamois and repeat. Else on vertical surfaces, you can gently pat dry the surface this way helping to reduce hairline scratches. There may a small film of water or a few beads but they'll evaporate. Remember to always refer to your Motorcycle User Manual for the OEM recommendations. Diarise Important Dates A few important Chapter Dates to diarise:- 1.
