2 SUNDAY BREAKFAST - JOINT RUN ULYSSES -West Wits, West Rand, Joburg South & Megaforce C/Ville 24 December 2017 [Updated 06 Nov 2017] January 02 - Boyd Smit February 24 - Hanelie Vermeulen 13 - Beatrix van Staden March 01 - Gert Nagel 04 - Trudie Ferguson With most members either chilling at home the day before Christmas or away on holiday a few stuck at home decided to get a ride. After the various whatsapp messages backwards and forward it was an unanimous decision to settle for Amazingwe Lodge just past Broederstroom as some of those riding had never been to Amazingwe Lodge. Secondly their Buffett Breakfast is one of the best value for money and in a beautiful setting where one can truly relax. Due to holidays Jackie phoned to determine if they were open and could accommodate the group for breakfast and then booked for 8. The centre meeting point was Pinehaven Sasol Garage were we set off at 09h00 and aiming for the satellite road where some of the Kawas decided to play a bit whilst the others took a gentle slower ride. Jackie taking up the lead with Nicky closely behind and ready to play just given the chance. April 07 - Gerald van Staden 22 - Petro Nagel May 24 - Valerie de Bruyn 25 - Chris Jansen van Vuuren June 06 - Nicky Oosthuizen 27 - Harold van Zyl July -Nil- August 03 - Noreen Jansen Van Vuuren 18 - Sean van der Merwe 23 - Allan Ferguson September 13 - Mark Westcott October 05 - Bernie Van Zyl 10 - Daleen Westcott 12 - Johan Basson 18 - Specs Vermeulen November 21 - Sakkie Viljoen 28 - Manda Oberholzer December 11 - Andries Oberholzer On our arrival at Amazingwe Lodge property and just past the Security Gate Entrance inside the fenced enclosure we came across a herd of buck lazing around in the shade of the trees. They are so used to people & bikes that we didn t scare then at all. The Buffett Breakfast was great and we just sat and relaxed under the shade of the trees chin wagging and swopping stories and indicating Christmas plans etc. On leaving the site at just after 12 midday where it was noted that the buck had moved and wondered off elsewhere. For info: Address: Broederstroom, Telephone: Web site: Page 2
3 CHARITY RUN - [Christmas Wish] 23rd DECEMBER 2017 RANDFONTEIN At the 11th hour a message went out to join a group of multi club riders in the Carletonville/Fochville area whereby to ride through to Randfontein to make a difference in a Child s Life. His Christmas Wish being for bikers to come and visit him for Christmas. Tristan was a recovering drowning victim who had been dead for 25 minutes until paramedics had managed to resuscitate him and get him to a hospital that deals with drowning victims. His parents have sacrificed so much just to be able to give Tristan the attention and care required from a now handicapped child. A donor sponsored the R200,000 medical costs for Tristan to get Stem Cell treatment in India and which has helped him tremendously. The Krugersdorp MACS co-ordinated the ride of well over 100 bikes to the address where Tristan lived with his parents with Dawie & Charmaine of Ry Vir Jesus riding in front of the MACS in a White Van. [photo below] Over 100 x Bikers gathered outside the parking area of Ben Morganrood FORD dealership in Randfontein. On our arrival at Tristan s home his Mom & Dad together with Tristan were waiting on the pavement and man you should have seen his little face light up and muttering words when all the bikes pulled up and revved their engines. The Macs passed around a helmet to raise some funds for the family as they had prepared wors rolls/ snacks, beers/cold drink for the bikers. The helmet was filled up so fast they had to source a cooler box to carry the money. The cooler box was filling up when Comanche President, Peet took out his wallet again and challenged all Presidents to contribute an amount equal or more that his. Presidents and Vices accepted the challenge and even more money was deposited into the cooler box. The family was handed the Box containing the money and told that it was theirs to be used for whatever was needed. The Family were really emotional and the mother being a biker lady herself was extremely emotional at the gesture of a spontaneous fund raiser. Photo on the right was when the Honda GoldWing Trike rider offered to take both her and Tristan for a ride. That little face was the face of excitement. The father made an emotional speech giving the road travelled since Tristan s drowning and warned people to ensure that the swimming pool gates are childproof and in good working order at all times. Accidents can happen at any moment & without warning. The organisers said that they had never envisaged that such a high number of bikers who turned up just before Christmas when called to ride and support a Child s Christmas Wish Just so Proud to have been able represented Ulysses at this Charity Page 3
4 MEGAFORCE CARLETONVILLE 26 YEARS BIRTHDAY BASH 6 JANUARY 2017 It had been decided that the West Rand Chapter members wanting to ride out to Carletonville would join the West Wits Chapter members at the Jol. Great for Ulysses to have yet another Joint Chapter attending an event. Poison Rally being the first. Johan back from working away from home was finally with the group again and could formally receive his Patch and Founder Members Scrolls etc. Great to have Johan back in the West Wits Chapter and at a Day Jol. With the weather forecasting a high of 38 degrees with the continuation of the Heat Wave the cold beers and beer buckets filled with ice were sourced with a speed. 11 x Ulysses Members in photo - others at the bar sourcing cold beers Gerald & Beatrix joined up with us after having to first complete a shift at work. But showing they weren't going to miss out on the First Jol of the The Megaforce Jol MC called upon Allan (West Wits Chapter President) and as one of the BIGGEST CLUB to come onto the stage and to carry out the Lucky Draw for the Shark Helmet. Eerste Steek for the day when a Bee climbed up inside Boyd s denims and stung him. Only way to safely remove the sting & its sack was for him to drop his rods and for Tania to delicately excruciate the sting. The person had to be present to receive the prize so it ended up that Allan had to draw 5 times before a winner was found and present. The beer drinking competition had 3 Ulysses members in serious contention with Mark coming a close 2nd. Maybe Next Time Mark, but will Boyd get back to form? Mmmm... Great time had by all and considering West Wits was there as the gates opened to when the sun s shadows were getting very long. Have to wish Daleen a speedy recovery as she suffered a broken wrist on site climbing off the BMW LT due to getting her foot caught & falling. Well that is the official story. Whilst another doing the rounds that she was bumped & knock off the LT.. Page 4
5 SUNDAY BREAKFAST RUN BIKER S CHURCH - Fochville 7 JANUARY 2018 RY VIR JESUS and MUSCLES 4 JESUS Coffee tent on the R500 An invitation to join in with a ride to the Fochville Biker s church message went out and Allan, Chris & Noreen indicated the they will be attending. The Clubs at the Church Service were, Ry Vir Jesus, Muscles for Jesus, Deo Volente, Team 22, Comanches & Ulysses -West Wits Carletonville riders meet at the 007 Engen Garage from 09h00 and left at 09h30 for a nice gentle ride to the Bikers Church which is held at the RENGWE Guest House just outside Fochville on the R500 on route towards Parys. 6 Tips & Hints GROUP RIDING [Part 1] Be aware that riding with a group of staggered formation motorcyclists can slow you down, rearranges the rhythm of your riding pace, and gets in the way of the independence. Be frequently reminded of the mistakes even good riders sometimes make when put in a group. Riding in a group can pose a variety of safety challenges. Pre-ride discussion The Lead plans Preferences Requirements Talk about pace Signals Fuel stops Routes Comfort breaks on route Leader ideally knows the route intimately should signal early and slow gradually plans to get riders safely along route without disrupting other traffic when surprised and has to make a quick decision such as whether to turn abruptly or miss the turn and try to find a way to get everyone turned around safely on down the road [To be Continued] A few important Chapter Dates to diarise:- Diarise Important Dates 13 January Chapter Meet & Social [A Usual Dop & Chop] from 16h May Ulysses 20th National Rally, Goudini Spa, Western Cape Other Dates of Day Jols & Ralies:- 20 Jan Hobo Jol - Solalita MCC Club house - C/O Petter & Westinghouse Boulevard, VDBPark 9-11 March Impala Rally - Harties March Buffalo Rally - Mosselbay Smile a While Page 6
