1 LET S MAKE A DEAL 2019 KLONDIKE LEADERS GUIDE CAMP STIGWANDISH 7497 ROSS RD MADISON, OHIO 44057
2 Let s Make a Deal! Klondike FAQ: Q: What is the purpose of this event? A: To give Scouts the chance to participate in challenging outdoor activities, have fun reciting important first aid and scouting history knowledge through trivia, to encourage teamwork at the patrol/ unit level, and to test basic negotiating skills. Q:You mention negotiating. How do you mean? A: Patrols show up to the station and complete the task. The station mayor has a minimum offer to make the patrol based on if they successfully or unsuccessfully completed said task. The station mayor also weighs teamwork, Scout Spirit, and other like variables to make an initial offer. Once the offer is made, Scouts can counter-offer what they feel they deserve. This happens until both the station mayor and the patrol are content with the score. Q: There are a lot of stations. Is each patrol expected to make it to all of them? A: The expectation of the event chairs is that each patrol will make it to all of the Camp-Wide Events, and all but one of the individual stations. It will be possible to complete them all if a patrol chooses to. It is not mandatory to participate in any event. Q: The older youth in my unit/one or more of the adults in my unit are interested in learning more about what a station mayor is. How do I get more information? A: Jake (eaglejb2011@gmail.com) or Anthony (anthony.dworning@gmail.com) for more information. WE ENCOURAGE ANYONE, YOUTH OR ADULT, TO BE A STATION MAYOR IF THEY CHOOSE! Q: How will food be served in the dining hall? A: We re glad you asked! Meals in the Dining Hall will be served FAMILY-STYLE. This is a change from the past. Plan A units will be assigned a table(s) at the Leaders Meeting Friday. Units may have to split up and/or share tables with other units. Each table needs 1-2 waiters for each meal. It is up to those sitting at the table to make sure a waiter is sent. Q: If there are updates during the event, how will we know? A: to to get text updates of the Let s Make a Deal! Klondike. Q: My unit is out-of-council. Can we still come? A: Of course! Contact Jake or Anthony and we will walk you through the registration process. Q: How does this event work? What s the point? A: Units will split into patrols (if applicable) and go from station to station, participating and trying to earn as many points as possible. Station mayors are responsible for providing quality program for Scouts, and will decide how many points the Scouts earn at each station. At the end of the day, all patrols will get together in the Dining Hall for the auction, where they can use their points to bid on prizes. Q: You mention points. Can patrols from the same unit combine their points at the auction? A: No. That gives an unfair advantage to large units over small units. Each patrol will use only the points they ve earned to bid on prizes. Q: Are there other ways to get points than just participating in the stations? A: Yes. Please see the Special Notes section of this Leaders Guide. Q: Are we expected to follow a schedule? A: The start and end time of each individual station is listed on the schedule for the day. It is up to each patrol where to start and where to go from there. Camp-wide events are only offered at the time mentioned on the schedule. NOTE: Shooting sports stations will have a mandatory sign-up to participate. Patrols can pick a time slot either at the Leaders Meeting or at Breakfast in the dining hall on Saturday. Q: If I want to be a station mayor, but I want to run a station not listed in this guide, is that ok? A: Absolutely! Get in touch with Jake or Anthony with your idea. We ask each station is game show themed. Q: How do I check in? A: See General Rules and Info section of this guide. Q: How do I check out? A: Find Jake or Anthony at the Leaders Meeting or during the day Saturday and schedule a preferred time. Call Jake ( ) or Anthony ( ) the morning of. NOTE: Everything should be packed, ashes cold, and area policed by your scheduled time.
3 Deal or No Deal: Scouts will be given one supply tote to build a shelter with. If they wish, they can trade in the tote for one of three other totes of unknown contents to help them with the shelter. Not all totes will have useful items! Wheel of Fortune: Try your hand at archery with a spin! Archery targets will be wheels of fortune. Jeopardy: Test your knowledge of first aid in this jeopardy-style Q&A! Let s Make a Deal: Patrols will participate in a challenging compass course. Cash Cab: Patrols will hop onto 4-man skis and run up and down the road from Solitude to Eagle s Nest. While moving, they will have to answer questions about Stigwandish and broader Scouting trivia. Event Descriptions Camp-wide Events: Gold Rush: Search through camp for gold! Gold rocks will be hidden throughout camp, near station locations. Find the rock, take a picture, and use your Gold Rush sheet to mark its location. DO NOT MOVE THE ROCKS! The Weakest Link: All patrols will participate in a game based on capture the flag. All patrols will be split into 4 teams. All teams will receive points for participation.note: The only way to get someone out during the game is to hit them with a pancake. ***Adults willing to help make pancakes before or during the game should let Jake or Anthony know!*** The Amazing Race: This is the annual klondike derby sled race. It will be at the front field of camp, between Ross Rd. and Indian Lake. All patrols will receive points for participating, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will respectively receive more. Family Feud: All patrol members must participate in the 2-man saw before the log is cut. Patrol members will only be able to swap places at the saw once they answer a trivia question correctly. The first patrol to swap each member before the log is cut through wins! Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Scouts will have multiple levels of knot difficulty to rise through. The station mayor will offer 4 knot options for multiple difficulty levels. Patrols will pick one knot, each person will tie it, and then repeat with the next level. Gilligan s Island: Your patrol is on a deserted island, when, lo! you spot an empty canoe. Your patrol must bring the canoe to land without putting anyone in the water and using only materials around you. Good luck!

Parking, Driving & Trailers in Camp: Please take only 1 vehicle per unit to your campsite. Try to stay on the road to avoid getting stuck. If the road conditions are too poor because of weather, no trailers can go to campsites. They will stay in the parking lot or by the boathouse instead. Emergency Drill: In order to ensure preparedness of all attendees for potential crisis situations, there will be an emergency drill during the first 18 hours of camp. When the alarm is sounded, please gather around the flagpoles at the dining hall, confirm all troop members are present, then send one representative to the incident commander. Check-Out: Please patrol your campsite, then call Jake or Anthony. They will arrive to inspect your campsite. Once your site is inspected, you will receive your patches. Once you receive your patches, you will be cleared to leave camp.
