2 Newsletter # 28 August 2010 Page CPLHS Annual Conference The 14 th annual meeting of the members of the took place on Saturday, July 17. About fifty people came to the Whitefish Township School in Paradise to enjoy good food, visit with friends, and get updates on the status of the lighthouse. Many arrived early to enjoy home baked pastries, fruit and coffee. A wide selection of Crisp Point merchandise was available for purchase, along with 50/50 drawing tickets. When the meeting started, Rick Brockway, CPLHS President, informed everyone of new developments and current issues. Current lifetime members were recognized, and several new lifetime members were each given a small plaque. Later, there was an auction of lighthouse related items, including a mailbox, an afghan and many small replicas. Finally, numerous door prizes were given away by drawing tickets out of a hat. The new boardwalk section leading from the parking lot to the Visitor Center was a special auction item. Two bidders, Elaine Watson and Stewart Warren, each paid $250 for the right to have the only engraved boards that will be installed in this section. Lunch was next on the agenda, with sandwiches, baked beans and salads, along with a large variety of desserts. After enjoying their meals, most of the members headed out for the drive to the lighthouse. Once there, they walked the beach, climbed the tower and admired the new visitor center building, along with the new display cabinets and the custom enclosure for the buoy light. The weather was just about perfect, sunny, with a nice breeze, but not too hot. A dinner of grilled hotdogs, chips, salads and more desserts completed the day. Rick Brockway speaking during the meeting. John Raths describing the license plates he made, which Chuck Nearhood painted. The winning bidders: Stewart Warren, Elaine Watson and Larry Watson. CP merchandise for sale.

6 Newsletter # 28 August 2010 Page 6 Memorial Day Work Weekend Eighteen members took part in a work weekend on Memorial Day weekend. Most of the workers camped at the light. There was a little excitement when bear tracks were found near the parking lot one morning, but no bears were seen. Many jobs were completed during the weekend, and a good start made on other tasks. In the tower, the lantern room was painted, along with the outside railing, the center post and the window wells. A new railing was also installed in the lantern room. In the service building, both the window frames and the floor were painted. A lot of painting was done in the Visitor Center, including the roof overhang, door frames, the large room, the restrooms and the floor. New boards were installed in the boardwalk, a new viewing platform was built, benches were installed and a new sign was placed on the Visitor Center. It was a very productive weekend, and we would like to thank the following people for coming to work: Rick Brockway Chuck Nearhood Joe Sweeter Stan & Mary Klein John & Diane Raths Cyndi & Guy Orseno Colt Edin Chris Brockway & Jeremiah Hartwell Inge & Chuck Spaulding Mike, Margaret, Lindsey & Marissa Warren New sign for the Visitor Center, made by John Raths 40 shrubs were planted to help control erosion The buoy weight was moved to a new concrete pad
