1 M E S S A G E F R O M THE P R E S I D E N T m a y Collaborate! Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. This quote is very symbolic of our club. We are making great progress in moving the Maine Antique Tractor Club forward with many members helping when and where they can. I m a true believer in where s there a will, there s a way, and I see that over and over again. I thank you all for that kind of support. Very heart warming! Our Show & Shine and Tractor Festival are filling up so we will be looking for your continued support. We will need help with the bake sale, flea market, the gate, along with parking the display vehicles at the Show & Shine. Please let me know how you can help. Our safety record is 100%, with no issues. We all need to be aware of what s going on around us and be proactive in keeping our record top notch. Safety first, safety always. I m looking forward to a fun season with the antique tractors and seeing everyone. Pam May Meeting Highlights The May meeting was hosted by Sandy Salsbury and his daughter Frances at their home in Bar Harbor with 55 members present. Mel Nickerson has been feeling a little under the weather, but we are glad he is feeling better and is back in action planning the plow day for the land. Our website has been updated with 3 new classifieds for sale which include a Farmall 200, Farmall C, and an array of equipment & parts. The Antique Farm Power Club of Michigan is hosting this year s annual National EGETA meeting on June 8th and they have invited our club members to attend. We are still looking for some people to volunteer to run the people mover at the Bangor Fair. Please let us know if you would be available to help. Scholarships are due June 1st for graduating seniors, the details are on our website. This year the Memorial Day parade falls on Harry Higgins 93rd birthday so we would like to get more people signed up to take their tractor in the parade. We still have a box of awards from the December banquet that recipients haven t picked up. If you won an award but did not receive it, please let Pam or myself know. They will also be available to pick up at the meetings and events. I have a correction to make from the sponsors list in the last newsletter. It stated that Ferry Ridge Farm was a sponsor, but it is supposed to read The Ferry Farm. I apologize for the confusion. A thank you letter was read from the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom for our $100 donation. The Secretary and Treasurer s reports were read and accepted. Chris Folsom reported that he, Mike Rivard and Mark Blaisdell worked to get the transmission back in the drag. They also took the sprocket out to try out a larger sprocket in an attempt to make the weight box move slower, resulting in smaller tractors pulling further. They are going to try to test it in May. Chris also reported that the first lawn and garden fun pull is going to be held at the land on May 20th. The Land and Building Committee reported that they met at the clubhouse on May 3rd. They have scheduled the plow day for May 20th at 9am. They will be planting oats. The plans for the Show & Shine are coming right along with 3 food vendors signed up and 9 swap meet members. 2 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS CONTINUED clubhouse is going to be used for the space for the bake sale this year. We are looking for baked good donations for us to sell. Cow chip bingo tickets are still for sale, they will be available at meetings and events or you can contact me for your ticket; they are $10 each with the chance of winning up to $500. So far there is one crafter signed up for the tractor festival this year. The flea market will be held inside the club house at the tractor festival rather than spending $1300 to rent a tent. The committee discussed holding the tractor festival next year to accommodate the Annual National EDGE&TA meeting. The committee recommended to the members that we think about selling the enclosed trailer as well as its contents of tables and chairs since it has not been used in over a year and there are no prospects of it being used. The members voted to sell the 6 X12, single axle enclosed trailer for at least $1500; it will available for sale to MATC members first, then will go out for sale to any buyer. A motion also passed to sell the tables and chairs that are inside the trailer for whatever we can get out of them. The coliseum committee recommended moving forward with the building. Pam, Bill Clark, John Hilton, and Bill Wilkins went to Truss Worthy Truss in Hodgdon to discuss with them a quote for the building. They came back with a quote of $58,000 ($20,000 in labor, $38,000 in materials). This price does not include the ground work which is quoted to be $6,000. The committee proposed planning on a cost of $70,000 to allow for some wiggle room to get to the $70K they propose taking $25,000 out of the savings account and taking out a $45,000 loan from Camden National at 4.14% for 10 years with the land as collateral and a monthly payment of $ A motion to accept the committee proposal for building the coliseum passed the vote of members. Truss Worthy Truss plans to start building in August and estimates it will take them eight days to complete. Kyes Insurance is due for the people mover, motion passed to pay the $714 to them for our policy. In the April newsletter, there was a misprint in the date for the Cumberland fair, the actual date is September 25th. Joe Landry discussed needing three more gallons of paint for the outside of the clubhouse. At the meeting, there was a donation made for the three gallons, so Joe is going to get the paint and start working on the outside of the clubhouse now that him and the gang have it looking great inside. The November meeting is being changed from Joe s house to the club house. Bob Collier donated all the spruce wood and screws/hardware needed to replank the people mover. John Hilton donated the paint for the planks and has already painted them so they are will be ready to put on. Don and Linda Briggs donated a refrigerator to the club for the club house. Union Farm Equipment, along with Milt McCrum, donated an antique sickle bar mower with attachments to the club, John Stansbury has picked it up in Union and brought it to Bill Clark s house so we can have it for display at the show and shine and Tractor festival. A huge thank you goes out to all of you donors, we really appreciate you all! Pam and John Hilton send out reminder letters to 187 members that had not paid their dues since I have received a couple dozen back so far. Since the meeting, the MAPA fun pull that was scheduled for June 3rd in Skowhegan has been changed to a fun pull at the land at 9:00 am. See you all at the pink barn in June! Respectfully yours, Emily Folsom, Secretary Club members selling raffle tickets at the Union Farm Equipment open house.

3 BUILDING AND FESTIVAL COMMITTEES The Land & Building Committee has met three times since the last report April 12th, May 3rd, and May 8th at the clubhouse. With the encouragement of the majority of club members, the committee feels it s time to move forward with the building of the Pulling Arena. After an in-depth look at our finances, loan options, a trip to Hodgdon, and updated building cost estimates, the committee made a recommendation to the membership at the May 7th monthly meeting that moving forward is a good option. Securing a $45, loan at a fixed rate of 4.14% for 10 years, and committing $25, from our saving accounts puts our club on the path to having a pulling arena constructed fully by the end of August. The committee will recommend that the MATC club trailer that is used to hold tables and chair be sold as we have no use for it. The antique equipment Plant & Plow day is set for May 20th. This is open to the public and free of charge. A Lawn & Garden tractor pull will happen the same day starting at 11:00 a.m. Agway in Skowhegan has donated the oat seed for this project. The Show & Shine and Tractor Festival events are filling up with many new vendors and exhibitors and we will need your continued support to help out where needed to ensure success at these events. The pageant has been cancelled for this year and we will continue to work on this in coming years. The next committee meeting is Wednesday June 14th at 6:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to attend. A visit to Hodgdon to discuss our pulling arena plans with Truss Worthy Truss Company. Bill Clark, Bill Wilkins, John Hilton, and Ernest. (Pam was taking the photo.) A N N O U N C E M E N T S A speedy recovery going out to Mel Nickerson, J. R. Rose, and Harry Higgins! Our club sent out fruit baskets to these gentleman. Joyce and Don Nelson are looking to fill several spots for the Bangor Fair People Mover. Please give them a call if you can help out Thank you going out to Don and Linda Briggs for the donation of a refrigerator for our club house. They delivered it right to the door and with the help of Mark Blaisdell, it s been installed at its new home. Union Farm Equipment, along with Milt McCrum from Hardwick, Massachusettes, have donated a John Deere Sickle Bar Mower to our club. We will use this as a display at events in the near future. Thank you to them both. Our People Mover will have new boards (shown right), and all new hardware, complements of Bob Collier. The paint has also been donated by John Hilton. A wagon load of thank you going out to these fine people. Tractor signs that members have donated or loaned for display at the clubhouse
