1 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT m a rc h Spring is in the air early this year and I m sure you re looking forward to warmer weather as much as I am. March and my daffodils are up already! I had the opportunity to have lunch with our new Secretary and Treasurer and got to know them a bit better. Two very nice, funny and knowledgeable ladies that have many good ideas to add to our club. We see where a few minor changes can be made to make our roles within this club easier, and ask that you understand this will take a little time to achieve. We think you will approve. Should you have ideas, we welcome those too. Just like those daffodils, always looking to grow and expand. Enjoy! Pam Highlights of the March Meeting There was a packed room at the club-house for the March meeting hosted by Mel & Donna Nickerson with 53 members present. MATC decals were handed out to the members that were present at the end of the meeting. The secretary s and treasurer s reports were read and accepted. Budgets that were proposed for the 2016 year; President, Secretary and Treasurer - $500, pulling committee - $5000, lawn & garden - $1000, newsletter - $7000, insurance for the People Mover and barrel train - $750, banquet - $1000, rental space - $250, and festival- $2000 were voted on and approved. Truss donations have still been coming in, now there is a total of 46 trusses that have been donated. This is going to be a great help in building the pulling arena. The invitations have been sent out for the Show & Shine scheduled for June 18th. If anyone would like to bring their vehicle or knows of someone that would be interested in joining us all are welcome. Mike Pratt proposed getting the electronics for the drag updated and buying a new LED distance monitor. He has been looking into getting the screen that is broken fixed and has come to the conclusion that it is beyond repair. This proposal came to a vote and was passed with the projected cost to be $2200. Mike is going to send in the electronics we currently have to Agratronix to be inspected and repaired if necessary. Some members have also been working towards getting the calibration fixed for the distance of the drag and it is expected to be ready for the upcoming pulling season. The club is looking for some new lawn and garden tractor pullers this year to join in the fun. The festival committee meet and is looking for ideas of activities to do at the festival this year; radio control truck/ tractor pulls and horseshoe tournaments were some of the ideas brought up. On June 11th the Maine Antique Power Association will be at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds hosting an engine show, flea market, raffle, and silent auction. See you all in April! Respectfully yours, Emily Folsom, Secretary TREASURER S REPORT (as of 2/29/2016) Balance in Checking... $22, Balance in Savings... $7, year CD... $5, year CD... $5, Total Assets... $40, Balance on loan... $17, NEXT MEETING: Sunday, April 3, 2016 Hosts: Bill & Harriet Clark 398 Middle Road Skowhegan, Maine (207) Pot Luck Lunch: 12:00pm Meeting: 1:00pm Respectfully submitted by Evelyn Twist, Treasurer PRESIDENT Pam Vaillancourt 110 Cross Rd, Anson, ME (207) MATC@gmail.com VICE PRESIDENT Matthew Hunter 17 Nash Drive, Chelsea, ME (207) mattelsie@roadrunner.com SECRETARY Emily Folsom PO Box 125, Bath, ME (207) emilyrae1989@gmail.com TREASURER Evelyn Twist 14 Ward Brook Rd, Wiscasset, ME (207) twisted883@hotmail.com NEWSLETTER EDITOR Jennifer Libby 220 Eames Rd, Winslow, ME jennifer.libby@hotmail.com WEBMASTER Burl Ewell 48 Serenity Dr, W. LAND & BUILDING/FESTIVAL COMMITTEE March 9th Meeting Notes 13 Members present. Wes Jordan shared with the committee a revised plan for the new pulling arena. This new plan met the approval of those present. Wes will sure up this plan with more concrete figures, and will present this to the committee at the April 13th committee meeting. With standing room only at the March monthly meeting comes many ideas shared on how to handle the size of our clubhouse. It is a goal of this committee to make our events fun and comfortable for members and guests; that way you will want to join us for the next event/meeting as well. Discussion was held and decided the best use of our donated Angel building would be to use the building as storage/office space for our clubs many material items,(office supplies, records, signs, flags, ladders, tools, speaker equipment, etc). We will propose at the April meeting to move the Angel building next to the existing clubhouse, move the stored items to the Angel building allowing more room in our clubhouse. The committee will discuss ways to improve our space in the existing clubhouse at the next committee meeting. This will include making our facility handicap accessible. We thank Joe Landry for is drawing and ideas on rearranging our clubhouse space to be more user-friendly. We have also received a letter and picture from Ken Mayers on a handicap ramp and thank him for taking the time to help the committee with his input. We will need to have some good draining gravel added around the clubhouse to help with the water issues. The committee discussed our camping permit for our upcoming Tractor Festival in June. With the permit costing $ and charging for camping last year, we profited about $ It was decided to forgo the permit, which is required only when we charge for camping and offer camping to our members for free with donations gladly accepted. Primitive camping will be available for Thursday thru Sunday nights. The Show and Shine event was discussed. Bob Gilcott will talk with Doug and Holly s Restaurant about putting calcium down on the dirt driveway as a way to keep the dust from reaching the show vehicles at the event. We are looking for a few bags of donated calcium should you or someone you know be interested in helping with that. Bob has a spreader that will lay the calcium down. We are looking into having a demonstration of radio control pulling at both of these events. An auction will be held at both these events. We are asking our club members and sponsors to donate one item to be included in these auctions. New items, handmade items, woodworking/craft items, home baked goods, slightly used items are all good auction items. There will also be a flea market at both events. All club members are welcome to attend these meeting held at our clubhouse starting at 6:00 pm the second Wednesday of each month. This is the place to have your ideas considered. Should you have ideas to share and cannot make the committee meeting, please consider mailing/ ing them to Pam or any committee member. We have new additions to our webpage! You can link to our club sponsors right from our sponsor page. Burl Ewell has been busy keeping our webpage up to date with club announcements, newsletters, pictures, links, etc. We ask a lot from Burl, and he is always very able and willing to help out. Thank you, Burl, for keeping our club connected.

7 HIGHT FAMILY OF DEALERSHIPS Skowhegan, Farmington, and Madison, Maine Sales: (844) Service: (844) In early 1911, more than one hundred years ago, Walter Hight introduced the motor vehicle into his line of products a big change from potatoes, hay, straw, and hemlock bark. Beginning with Fords, which came disassembled, six to the box car, and later Buicks that were driven home straight from the factory, Walter imparted early the Hight tradition You put us first in sales, we put you first in service. This was, of course, important in the early days when a vehicle came without a large manual but a personal driving lesson, as Walter had to convert trusting customers away from the horse and buggy. Through four generations, the Hight family has continued to provide the best possible experience to its customers of central Maine. From the brave early drivers who converted their Model T s into snow machines in order to drive in the winter, to today s drivers that need not worry about the snow, the mud, or better yet, a hand-cranked starter. From Walter, to Kirb, to Lou and Walter, and to Corey, Toby and Sam, the entire Hight family would like to thank everyone who has helped make 100 years possible to its employees, its customers and its community. Walter Hight and Family, Lou Hight and Family Don sells old tractors and farm equipment along with new and used tractor and farm equipment parts. About three years ago, Don moved his business to his home in Fryburg Center. Raymond Harvey started working with his father when he was 6 years old out of a tar paper shack in Dover-Foxcroft Maine. The business catered to a multitude of farm families throughout the region. As farming declined over the years, they purchased equipment discarded by the farmers and moved it to their field. Word spread that this was the place to go to for many needed parts and pieces to put your tractor and equipment back together. In 1975, Raymond took over the business from his father. Harvey Farm Equipment was purchase about 7 years ago by family member, Steve Hartford. Steve continues to help farmers and people who are looking for parts to restore their old tractors and equipment. The business also sells new parts and equipment and is located at 1251 Bangor Road in Dover-Foxcroft. Give Steve a call, he may just have what you re looking for.
