2 Chapter Director s Spiel Wow, what happened to 2018? We re about to start December, where did the year go? I m not really sure we re ready for the year to be over yet. Oh well, I guess we really don t have a lot of say in it, do we? Looking back, it has been an eventful year, some really nice things, some fun rides, some good times with our fellow members, and also some not so nice, unfortunately we ve had a good number of health issues plaguing many of the members, including my own wife Loretta with her broken leg. Sure curtailed our riding plans during the best part of the year. And we had a couple members getting knee or hip replacements, some with back problems, some getting stints put in, it s been a hectic year for many, so all we can hope for is a much better year next year. We re looking forward to the festivities to come with the upcoming holiday season. We want to wish everyone a VERY Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope that many of you can join us as we participate in the local Lenoir City and Loudon Christmas parades, December 6 th and 8 th respectively, it is so much fun to show off our bikes and especially see the little children oohing and ahing over us as we ride by. Then there s the chapter Christmas party, December 7 th, always a fun time, with good food, great fellowship, lots of laughter. Shortly after the first of the year I will be sending out an inviting everyone that wants to participate, to our 2019 Ride Planning Meeting. We will do the same as the last couple years, meet at the Shoney s down the road from our gathering place, get a good meal, then sit around and throw out suggestions for rides, which I will write down. We ask each of you to be considering rides you would like to see on the calendar, and we hope you also want to participate in, and give them to us, either at the planning meeting, or if you can t make it to that, then send me an with your ideas. Most importantly, this is YOUR chapter, and it is our goal to make it as enjoyable as possible for as many of you as possible, we are supposed to be having FUN, and as a motorcycle organization, a large aspect of having that fun is, of course, riding, so let s see about getting some great rides lined up for next year. We need your help to accomplish this. 4 Chapter M Out Having FUN! Nov 10 th, TN-Q s Veteran s Day Parade Brian Richards As we ve done over the many past years, we rode up to Clarksville to join with TN-Q in their participation in the annual Veteran s Day parade. Being so close to Fort Campbell, there is a LOT of military in the area, and there is a lot of patriotism, so the parade is very special. We rode up on Friday, the 9 th and joined them in their Meet & Greet at their normal monthly gathering location, for a meal and some camaraderie. Plans were set for the next morning. We met up at a parking lot near the parade staging area, at 7:30am, to mount the flags on the bikes and line up as we want the flags presented, the United State of America flag on the first bike, followed by bikes flying the different service flags, then by bikes flying the state flags. It was a cold morning, I think it was 27 degrees, thank goodness for heated gear!!!!! After getting all the flags mounted and bikes lined up, we rode to the parade staging area to our designated spot. Then we stood around and laughed and talked and waited till it was time for the parade to start. Around the time the parade actually started, I think the temperature had risen to around 40 degrees, thanks goodness. Considering what the temperatures were, I personally was surprised at the number of people lining the parade route, both sides of the streets, in some places 3 and 4 deep. There is a lot of support there, and it is heart-warming to see it. Being able to participate in this event to show our support to the troops is very special, and we thoroughly enjoy doing it, even if is WAS cold! I m not totally sure of the count, I believe we had something like 18 bikes, 4 Slingshots, and 1 OLD classic car. That wasn t enough to be able to fly all the state flags, which is the chapter s goal each year, we HAVE attended when we did have enough to get all the flags flying, and that is very impressive. I was very honored to be able to fly three flags with my multiple pole mount, I had the Marines flag, the Coast Guard flag, and a flag with the seals of all the services and the statement We Support Our Troops December 2018, Page 4 of 15

9 Some Fun stuff to brighten your day Geriatric Gems - Sharing some thoughts as I get older: 1. I talk to myself, because there are times I need expert advice. 2. I consider "In Style" to be the clothes that still fit. 3. I don t need anger management. I need people to stop pissing me off. 4. My people skills are just fine. It s my tolerance for idiots that needs work. 5. The biggest lie I tell myself is, "I don t need to write that down. I ll remember it." 6. I have days when my life is just a tent away from a circus. 7. These days, "on time" is when I get there. 8. Even duct tape can t fix stupid - but it sure does muffle the sound. 9. Wouldn t it be wonderful if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes, then come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller? 10. Lately, I ve noticed people my age are so much older than me. 11. Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering why I m there. 12. When I was a child, I thought nap time was punishment. Now it feels like a mini vacation. 13. Some days I have no idea what I m doing out of bed. 14. I thought growing old would take longer. 15.
