2 Welcome to NORTH/WEST DAZE 2019 RAINDROPS AND ROSES Hosted by Nydia Temple No. 4 This Year, Nydia Temple is observing 100 years as a Daughters of the Nile Temple. We chose to host North/West Daze 2019 to invite you to be part of our yearlong festivities as we Celebrate 100 Years of Helping Kids and Making Memories. All events (other than tours) will take place at the Al Kader Shrine Center in Wilsonville. There are several reasonably prices hotels nearby and one RV resort. We will have shuttles available for those of you without cars and who will need transportation to/from the airport. This event is one of three special Birthday celebrations hosted by Nydia this year. This one is focused on having social time with members from other temples and on raising funds for the Daughters of the Nile Foundation. This is why we have decided to have an all inclusive registration that covers everything except for tours and T-Shirts. Food, tours, seminars, etc. are at our cost these are not the fund raisers. However, we will have a quilt to auction (made by a Master Quilter member) and a silent auction of smaller sewn items. We hope that the money you save by paying a minimum for our NORTH/WEST DAZE, you will invest in our DON Foundation items when you get here. Our Raindrops and Roses committee has been working hard to make this a unique part of our Birthday year and we hope that you will enjoy doing things a little differently. 7 NORTH/WEST DAZE TOUR INFORMATION Columbia Gorge Scenic Tour August 15, :45 am Meet in front of Al Kader Shrine Center to Board the Bus Depart 11:00 am 4:00 pm Price: $45 (Includes box lunch) Travel out of Wilsonville on a motor coach and head towards the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Byway. On your way you might be able to get a glimpse of Mt Hood and a view of Portland s downtown and its tall buildings. Did you know Portland has 12 bridges spanning across the Willamette River? The Columbia River Gorge is a canyon of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest and acts as the dividing line between Washington State and Oregon. Our first stop Multnomah Falls. Multnomah Falls is Oregon s #1 visited natural attraction. The Falls plummets 620 feet and is the second highest in the nation. There is a short trail behind the Lodge to get a closer look of The Falls. Multnomah Falls Lodge offers a place to relax, a gift shop for finding a perfect gift for a special someone or souvenir of your trip and visitor information. Next stop is Vista House at Crown Point. Crown Point offers fantastic views of the Columbia River and Gorge area. The Vista House is located at Crown Point. It was built in 1916 as a comfort station for travelers driving the 75-mile Columbia River Highway linking Portland to The Dalles. The Vista House is now a museum, offering interpretive display of historic and geologic points of interest in the Gorge and a gift shop with an espresso bar. Now sit back and relax, take in the views on your way back to the Shrine Center. This trip is photo worthy, remember to bring your cameras or cell phone! 8 Classic Portland August 15, :45 am Meet in front of Al Kader Shrine Center to Board the Bus Depart 10:00 am 4:00 pm Price: $65 (Includes entrance fees and box lunch) Travel to Portland West Hills aboard a motor coach to visit Portland Japanese Gardens, International Rose Test Garden and the Pittock Mansion. Portland Japanese Garden: is a traditional Japanese garden occupying 12 acres, located within Washington Park in the West Hills of Portland. It has been proclaimed the most authentic Japanese Garden outside of Japan. Visitors will have two hours to immerse yourself in Japanese culture by visiting the Cultural Village and walk the garden paths. One of Portland s nicknames is the City of Roses, and the town has long been known for the roses cultivated here. International Rose Test Garden: is a rose garden in Washington Park and within walking distance from the Portland Japanese Gardens. There are over 10,000 rose bushes of approximately 650 varieties of roses. The roses bloom from April through October. The gardens now feature a gazebo and a Rose Garden Store. Pittock Mansion: Pittock Mansion is Portland s finest historic house museum. Built in 1914 by Henry Pittock, publisher of The Oregonian, which is a local newspaper still in existence today. The Mansion is a French Renaissance-style chateau located in the West Hills of Portland. The Mansion was designed to capture the view of downtown Portland and the Cascade Mountains. It s a unique oval shape home with wings attached at a 45-degree angle. The Mansion has 23 rooms and includes modern conveniences such as thermostat-controlled central heating, indirect electric light, refrigerator room, elevator and central vacuum system. 9 Portland Shriners Hospital Tour / Willamette Jet Boat Cruise August 16, :15 Meet in front of Al Kader Shrine Center Depart 10:30 am 4:30 pm Price: $68 (Includes cruise costs and box lunch) After boarding the motor coach, the bus will travel to the West Hills where Portland Shriners Hospital is located. Portland s hospital specializes in orthopedics, cleft lip and palate disorders and provides prosthesis using 3-D printers for half of the Shriners Hospitals system. After the tour board the bus to travel across the river for an exciting jet boat ride on the Willamette River. Once you arrive there will be tables and benches to eat your box lunch before boarding the boat. Willamette Jet Boat Cruise: This fun one-hour scenic tour providing history on Portland bridges, shipyards and waterfront while at the same time taking a 15-mile boat ride and getting splashed! You will probably get wet and that is part of the fun but if you do not want to get wet, bring a dollar store poncho and still have a blast. The boat will board at 2:45 pm, with the cruise starting at 3:00 pm. Please note: There is a walk down to the docks, which is walker accessible. The jet boat will travel fast. Be prepared to be wind-blown and to get wet when the boat makes its famous 180 degree turns. However, it can be refreshing in the summer. 10 After the cruise everyone will walk back to the motor coach to board for return trip to Al Kader Shrine Center. World of Speed Vanguard Brewing (No Host) For Men and Non-DON Members Only August 17, :30 pm 4:00 pm Price: $10.00 (World of Speed) This event is for the men and non-members only, while Nydia Temple No 4 is hosting a Daughters of the Nile member only event. World of Speed is an educational motorsports museum, where historic race cars, boats, and motorcycles tell the story of America s motorsports culture. Tours have been arranged to be given by knowledgeable tour guides. After the tour and all the exhibits have been visited, everyone is invited to go to near-by Vanguard Brewing for refreshments and socializing. All are short sleeved, preshrunk 50/50 Cotton Polyester and come in Unisex sizes Small through 3XL. T-Shirts are $15 each. QUILT RAFFLE All proceeds from the sale of chances on this quilt will be donated to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation. The Quilt is a large Queen and will drape completely over a Queen Size bed. It can be used on a King Size Bed with a bed ruffle. Two matching Pillowcases are included with the quilt. Quilt chances will sell for $5 each, 6 for $25, and 10 for $40

13 NORTH/WEST DAZE Portland, Oregon DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE FOUNDATION SILENT AUCTION We are excited to bring to you a chance to contribute to the daughters of the Nile Foundation by our unique silent auction. Nydia Temple has many very talented quilters and seamstresses. We are known for our work at the Portland Shriners Hospital for Children. By combining those talents with our theme Raindrops and Roses, a great way to raise funds for the DON Foundation became clear. We will sew all our decorations and then auction them off to our guests. All Silent Auction items are donated and all were to be no larger than a lap quilt. They will include wall hangings, table runners, table toppers, clothing items and bags. All must contain roses in the fabric. They will be displayed about the large banquet room during North/West Daze and you will have an opportunity to make bids throughout the weekend. At the end of the Banquet on Saturday evening, you may pay (we will accept credit cards and checks) and pick up your beautiful handmade souvenir of North/West Daze All monies collected from this Silent Auction will be donated to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation.
