3 FROM JIM AND PATTI BURR CHAPTER DIRECTORS Greeting everyone This is the last newsletter of the year. Where has the time gone. We hope this finds you well and all doing fine and staying out of the rain. Seems Mother Nature just doesn t want to give us enough sunshine. Winter begins in 21 days and then we will wish for rain instead of snow. We have been busy preparing for the Christmas party. By now everyone should have signed up. Kudos to everyone who helped getting things prepared. We will be setting everything up at 11:00am on December 8 th at the Four Seasons. Remember Charlie Brown Christmas December 8 th. Everything begins at 5:00pm with Dinner starting at 6:00pm. Don t forget to wear those ugly sweaters. We will have special announcements, and we will announce the Couple of the Year as well. Should be a good time. We will be ending the year with something different this year. Bowling Party on New Years Eve at Dutch Bowling lanes. Information and sign up is on the calendar. Please join us for a couple of hours of fun. Who knows where we go from there. On January 1st, Ron Spence will be leading us on our first ride (Polar Bear ride) of the year to the Fulton Fire Company for Pork and Sauerkraut. We have lots of different events going on over the winter. Don put some of the first 4 months on the web with information and a signup sheet. We will be adding more information as we finalize events so check back regularly for updates on the calendar page. Patti and I wanted to thank you all for the support you have given us in our first year. Without each of you our chapter members, we would not be as successful. We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have. We sincerely appreciate all the support. Finally, we want to wish all our Chapter B members a warm and joyful Christmas. 4 FROM RON AND SANDY SPENCE ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS As our first snowstorm of the yet to come Winter season has come and now gone, we here in the Northern US have a long winters nap from our wings. Most won t jump into the saddle until warmer temperatures. I did ride after our gathering last month and found on my new to me 2012 that heated grips and seat made for a comfortable ride that day with a few more layers of clothing. Hoping all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family, yet remembering those first responders and military that often can t be home due to protecting us. So this time of year brings many changes, cool mornings on the bike to warmer afternoons on the same to that white stuff howling past the window. As some are healing, all are hopeful of a new riding season filled with friends, current and new, from many places across our nation. Our rides will lead to comradery and fun. We are looking forward to our Charlie Brown s Christmas party remembering those less fortunate. It s not about us, but how we can share and how we can give to brighten life for others. So please bring a new unwrapped gift for a child and a non-perishable food item, that others may be lifted up. Remembering how blessed we all are. Ride Safe, Ron & Sandy Assistant Chapter Directors

FALL FOLIAGE 443 RIDE 11/4/18 By Craig Lenhard With a weather forecast of rain for much of the week, Sunday the 4 th appeared to be the best day for another last minute Chapter B fall ride.

6 FALL FOLIAGE 443 RIDE 11/4/18 By Craig Lenhard With a weather forecast of rain for much of the week, Sunday the 4 th appeared to be the best day for another last minute Chapter B fall ride. Don posted the trip on the calendar and Jim Duff sent out an for anyone interested in riding with Craig and Sandi Lenhard. We met at Sheetz on Rt 72 at Auction Road with blue skies and temperatures in the high 40 s. Those in the group included Bill Bard, Bob & Diana Long, Don Engle, Earl Breneman, Ron Spence and Craig & Sandi. We traveled north and soon began to see the foothills of the Blue Mountains and an assortment of fall colors. Upon reaching Rt 443 we traveled east passing thru Pine Grove and Schuylkill Haven. We stopped along the way at a small grocery store where Don purchased some apples then it was off to Pottsville for lunch. We next traveled south on Rt 61 turning east onto Rt 201, passing thru New Ringgold and New Philadelphia. Craig was looking for Mountain Road and made a turn too soon which soon brought us to a gravel road. Knowing that this was not the road he wanted to be on, the group turned around and tried a shortcut which soon turned into a dead end, We backtracked about a quarter mile and continued to the correct road up and over the mountain with sweeping turns, twistees and a few fun switchbacks along the edge of coal mining country. We returned to 443 and traveled west to 501. By mid afternoon the weather had warmed but the afternoon sun was in our faces and we had to contend with glair at times. As we passed Camp Mack we made one final stop for ice cream. It turned out to be a great fall day to ride.

PICK-UP RIDES Pick up Ride 10/23. Meeting at Rutters in West York we rode PA 234 to Michaux State Forest, then PA 233, 382, 74 over the mountain, 75 and 322 to the Mifflintown exit for lunch and gas.

After riding in circles in Milroy trying to find the road out of Milroy to get to PA 45, we got back on 322 W to 144N and picked up 45E just before Centre Hall.

7 PICK-UP RIDES Pick up Ride 10/23. Meeting at Rutters in West York we rode PA 234 to Michaux State Forest, then PA 233, 382, 74 over the mountain, 75 and 322 to the Mifflintown exit for lunch and gas. After lunch we headed west on 322 to the Reedsville exit. After riding in circles in Milroy trying to find the road out of Milroy to get to PA 45, we got back on 322 W to 144N and picked up 45E just before Centre Hall. Took 45E to 104S and stopped for ice cream at the Cruiser s Café, Mount Pleasant Mills. Continued south on 104 to 15 and 22 to Harrisburg where we split up to head home. Unfortunately the fall color was just starting to show but we did have a great ride. I did about 300 miles that day. Pick up ride 10/31. We met at Musser s in Buck and rode to Downingtown to visitation at the funeral home prior to the funeral for Linda Clavier s mother. From there we headed north on PA 282. A beautiful ride along the creek to PA 82, 345 past Hopewell Furnace and Frenchcreek State Park. After lunch north of Birdsboro, we took 422E to Daniel Boone Rd, Meeting House Rd, PA 562, 662, 143 to Hawk Mtn Rd. After a picture in the bright sunshine at Hawk Mtn Sanctuary we rode 895, 61 and 209 to Tower City. Goldmine Rd over the Mountain to 443 and 72S. Heading down 72S we split up to head home. Great weather and beautiful fall foliage made this another great pick up ride.

8 ICE CREAM FOR DECEMBER COLUMBIA FAMILY RESTAURANT 3985 Columbia Avenue Columbia, PA Food and Ice Cream THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING: RICHARD, BOB & LIBBIE COLORFUL VEGGIE BAKE By Pam Bomberger INGREDIENTS: 2 packages (16 ounces each) frozen California-blend vegetables 8 ounces Velveeta, cubed 6 TBS butter, divided 1/2 Cup crushed better flavored crackers (about 13 crachers) DIRECTIONS: Prepare vegetables according to package directions; drain. Place half in an ungreased baking dish. In a small saucepan, combine cheese and 4 TBS of butter. Cook over low heat until melted. Pour half over vegetables. Repeat layers. Melt the remaining butter. Toss with cracker crumbs. Sprinkle over the top. Bake at 325 for minutes or until golden brown.

12 DISTRICT NEWS By Harold and Diane Jackson PA District Directors How many of you said I m not going to stuff myself at Thanksgiving this year? Did any of you keep your promise? I didn t, I just finished eating, took a little nap, watched some football and now I am sitting down to write this article. I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and was able to enjoy family and friends and took time to be thankful. Now we start the month of December and festivities for the season begin. Be sure to check out the PA District calendar to see the list of chapter parties this month and in January. This is the last full month to sell the PA District raffle tickets. We hope you have been selling the tickets. Can t think of a gift to give that person who is hard to buy for; how about a PA District Raffle Ticket! They make great Christmas gifts or stocking stuffers. Give the tickets to people you want to say thank you to, such as your waiter/waitress, mail carrier, garbage collector, lawn service or the person that removes snow. Keep in mind that for every ticket you sell you are helping your Chapter. Tickets and money need to be turned in on or before January 15, 2019 to Mike Prince, PA ADD. It is time to turn in Officer Change Paperwork. Who is an officer? GWRRA officers in the chapter are Chapter Director, Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Membership Enhancement Coordinator and Chapter Rider Coordinator and Assistants for the officers listed. The PA District website has the current forms and instructions to fill out the forms listed under the District then go to Officer Paperwork. Thank you for helping us get this paperwork completed before the end of the year. It is time to get those registration in for Ride of the Roses ; the PA District Rally being held May 16-18, 2019 in York, PA at the Wyndham Garden. There are several classes and events that have limited size so, get your registration in early! Due to several requests, there is an Advance Rider Course (ARC) being offered on Wednesday. And don t forget to book your room at the hotel. When you are making those plans for 2019, take a look at the PA District website for events that have been added. The calendar is constantly changing. Newly added is: Couple of the Year FUN day, March 30 th. Thank you to PA-N for stepping forward to host All Chapters West, June 14-16, The 2019 Roll for the Dough Guidelines have been revised. The program starts January 1, 2019 and we are encouraging you to get out and visit the Chapters in PA. Chapters make sure you are posting your special events to the PA District events list on the website to encourage other PA Chapters to visit. If you have any questions about the Roll of the Dough program please feel free to contact us. Remember to always ride safe especially during this busy month! PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR CHUCK STONE Hi Everyone: With the arrival of the winter season, I think that most of us have prepared or are in the process of preparing the wings for winter storage.

13 PA DISTRICT EDUCATOR CHUCK STONE Hi Everyone: With the arrival of the winter season, I think that most of us have prepared or are in the process of preparing the wings for winter storage. In case you do ride in the cold, remember that cold catalytic converters allow water to exit the exhaust system at stop signs and/or traffic lights. This water can freeze creating a very slick surface just about where your tires may be when coming to a stop or starting out. As you start to think about the 2019 riding season here are some things for you to ponder, as well as some SAFETY TIPS to think about during the long winter season: You feel better about going to your doctor knowing that he has the proper medical training. You would feel more confident going to traffic court knowing that your lawyer had the proper legal training. YOU AND YOUR CO-RIDER WILL ENJOY MOTORCYCLING A LOT BETTER KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE THE PROPER RIDER EDUCATION AND TRAINING. Make a commitment to improve and practice your riding skills in 2019 and become involved in the Rider Education Program. Some Safety Tips to consider as you prepare your bike/trike and yourself for the upcoming riding season: Tip #1: Check/tighten the screws that hold the face-shield on your helmet to prevent them from ripping off in the breeze. Tip #2: The T-CLOCK inspection list that should be hanging on the wall next to the Wing. Follow it! Tip #3: One thing forgotten is that your riding skills will be sharply off. Amazing how a bit of down time can reduce your skills. When you first start back riding, take it easy for a bit and refresh your skills. Allow your body to remember how to ride. Tip #4: If you are a winter rider, WATCH out for everything, remember no one will be looking for a motorcycle so early in the year, take nothing for granted, THEY MAY NOT SEE YOU. Again, we encourage everyone to get involved in the Rider Education program to improve your riding skills and knowledge so that you and your passenger enjoy the ride and return home safe Ride Safe and Ride Proud Chuck & Evelyn Stone PA District Educators
