With better weather coming we are all getting excited about doing what all Harley Chapters are set for, Ride and Have Fun! Please be careful out there. The cage drivers are not used to seeing us on the streets so as usual we are invisible sometimes. As most of you already know we need to keep our new General Manager, Jeff and his family and Dan and Pauline in our thoughts. Even though it seems nice for a ride, conditions can change rapidly. Be sure to pack for all weather possibilities. With the state rally coming up, I have a word to the wise when packing. Guys, donʼt let your better half pack your bike. Or if you do, double check it before you leave, otherwise you may find that the heavy weather coat you packed for yourself has been replaced with something she needs. I speak from experience. I want to encourage everyone to participate in as many activities as you can in support of those who give their time to plan them just for you. I realize we canʼt all do all of them, thatʼs why we plan them at different times, to try to give everyone a chance to participate. Check the new outdoor events board by the doors to the Service entrance. We will be putting information about activities there. The new sign incorporates pictures, taken by Linda, of the Flint Hills highway sign, a grazing/pond area on I70 and one of the Run for the Wall rides. Don cut the letters. Sue and Claudia painted the letters that cover the picture. Tammy created the letters on the orange panel. This was a project recommended at an officers meeting. Clips to attach information on the middle of the picture. FLINT HILLS CHAPTER JUNCTION CITY KS Sponsored by City Cycle Sales 1021 Goldenbelt Blvd., Junction City, Kansas (785) (877) These are the folks who worked on the sign project. Claudia Perry, Sue Gwaltney, Don & Linda Rush, Tammy and Kirk Meyer.

April Minutes Vonda Copeland secretary The April meeting of the KS Flint Hills HOG Chapter monthly meeting convened at 7:01 pm on the 13th at City Cycle Sales. Director Don R asked the group to observe moments of silence, keeping others in our thoughts. The group included GM Jeff Maddox and his family in this as he lost his son-in-law earlier in the day. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Birthdays for April: 9th-Deb A, 12th-Rick W, 13th-Carol E, 18th-Tim C, and 23rd-Tiffany C. There were no anniversaries reported. Guests/new members: One new member was present tonight: Rick W, who rides a 2015 Streetglide. Visitors Johnathan and Melissa M, who ride a 2010 Streetglide, came to check out the meeting as well. Dennis C stopped by later to update the group on Dan and Pauline M. Dan is home from the hospital, but now Pauline has been admitted, so continued thoughts and prayers are needed. There was one notice of the upcoming 50th anniversary event of the Vietnam War being held in Manhattan on May 25th. If you are interested in riding, they are meeting at the mall at 1 pm. More information will be ed out. Old Business: The bulletin board outside the shop has gotten a new facelift, be sure to check it out if you have not seen it. Events will be posted there soon. Don presented Claudia, Sue, and Tammy fur coats for their efforts in the project (Don and Linda were also very instrumental in making it happen)! Highway clean up will take place at 10 am this Saturday. Officers will have a meeting at 9 am prior to this, and City Cycle Sales is hosting a bike show starting at 11 am for anyone that wants to participate. The first radio remote that the chapter is assisting with is on May 9th, so please come out to help if you can. Franklin was volunteered to cook, and since he wasnʼt present yet, he gladly accepted! Don estimated that people would be needed by 10:30 to help set up, but an will go out with more information. Mike reminded Don that the floral base will need to be taken to Maryʼs prior to the RFTW so that the flowers could be set up. Don will make sure it gets over there. There may be a need for people to hand out flags for the RFTW event, a call for volunteers will go out when more information is gathered. The State Rally will start May 28th. The benefit ride for Dan and Pauline was discussed. It was moved by Carol and seconded by Ryan to combine the chapter BBQ scheduled for June 13th with this ride. The motion passed. Gerry will be asked to put a ride together which will be a donation ride versus a poker run. The Ladies of Harley will put together the BBQ. Deb suggested that the proceeds from the May 9th radio remote meal be designated for this fund as well. Shirley stated this in a formal motion, and Claudia and Dan tied for a second, motion passed. New Business: There was no new business. Officer reports: Director Don R: no report Assistant Director Kirk M: Kirk took a count to go to Tyme Out after the meeting. Secretary Vonda C: The shirts and patches did not get ordered yet, but she will get with Scott to get a count tonight and let Sue know to bring a check into the dealership so they can get the order in later this week. Treasurer Sue G: Sue reported the current account balances. Disbursements from the regular account included $13.68 to Orin to reimburse for the Road Hog plaque (Minutes continued on next page)
3 APRIL 2015 FLINT HILLS CHAPTER # (Minutes continued from previous page) April Minutes conʼt & Scottʼs Corner from the regular account included $13.68 to Orin to reimburse for the Road Hog plaque engraving, $ to Don for materials for the bulletin board. Disbursements from the RFTW account were $37.99 to Sir Speedy, and $26.96 to Claudia for zipper pull supplies. Editor Wanda Allen: No report. Road Captain Gerry J: Gerry sent notice of three rides since the last meeting. Maggie Maeʼs in Salina (18 bikes/22 people), casino bus groupies (2 bikes/3 people), and Cassoday (5 bikes/5 people). The last two were pretty cold! Safety Charlie G: Itʼs that time of year when a lot of farmers start to take their equipment out on the road, so watch for these as they are usually moving a lot slower than normal traffic. Activities Carol E: No report. Ladies of Harley Claudia P: LOH will meet every three months prior to the regular meeting. Next month, the entire chapter is invited to meet at 6:30 down in the shop and Dean will go over some safety information. There is a sign up for LOH shirts, they will cost $20, please have your money and size to CCS within the next two weeks if you are interested. Photographer Linda R: She has started a book of pictures of our events and will have it at meetings to pass around. They will also be available on the website. Membership Karen C: We have 131 members plus Rick! Webmaster Ryan Y: Thanks to all who answered the survey. Our website is not currently mobile-friendly, so he will be working on that in the future. Historian Janet Y: Janet and Linda are working on a book of the groupʼs history. 50/50 winner: The total collected was $32, with half going to winner Andy K. Andy donated his share back to the fund for Dan and Pauline. The winner of the door prize was Kevin C, who had the unlucky lucky number or maybe the lucky unlucky number... Bozo nominations: Linda R nominated Linna G for messing up the zipper pull cord piles and causing them to have to recount them. Linda R. had some brain teasers to see if the group knew their bikerʼs jargon. The meeting was adjourned, with the next meeting scheduled for Monday, May 11th at 7 pm. Scottʼs Corner Scptt Templeton City Cycle Sales Those of you that are looking for a new riding boot, need to check out this. It is called the Andy for the men and Elaine for the ladies. The great thing about this boot is that it is a lightweight, full-grain upper leather, breathable, waterproof boot. Did you catch that waterproof part? It has a rubber outsole. When you put this on it feels like an old friend that you have been wearing for a long time. Come by and check it out. I have been posting a lot of events for the shop on our web site so check out the calendar. Also, we are giving away a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with K-Rock, so listen in and find out where the sign up is for the week. The bike is to be given away on June 13, Also, come by the shop and welcome Chad Mayes to the family. He is a new motorcycle salesman.
4 4 FLINT HILLS CHAPTER #1508 APRIL 2015 Photo Gallery Deb Auld member Editorʼs note: Member Deb Auld has an amazing body of work of photos. I have enjoyed seeing her photographs over the last few years and hope you enjoy them, too. Photo Gallery & Jeffʼs Blog The sunsets lately have been breathtaking! jmadog Jeff Maddox City Cycle Sales general manager Posted on April 10, See more of Jeffʼs blog at The Mechanics of Emotion Take a step back. Look. Itʼs motor in plain site-the oil lines expose and its polished cases reflecting a fun-house image of yourself. The air cleaner is prominent and the cables that run from the hand controls to the power plant are waiting for your every command. The suspension is visible as are the disc brakes-a conflict in horsepower and stopping power, when all it wants to do is go, and go fast. Gears, pistons, bearings and oil. Precision cut with an idea of what is truly possible from internal combustion. Adding to this, a couple of gallons of gasoline sitting between your legs, and you fire it up. The sound, the smell and the vibration of a machine as it runs, brought to life by the push of a button or a kick of a lever.we feel it. Emotion. We talk of motorcycles as a mechanical object-which they are. but when the inventors of two-wheel motion started assembling the early versions, they were in fact changing how we would feel about transportation that moves us. There is a lot of parts and pieces that are required to turn a machine into emotion but it happens with a single spark. It happens every time the motor fires up. A spark can transform peace and quiet-to gears turning, pistons pumping and exhaust throwing out the sound of life. This directly affects our physical and mental state, far beyond what was originally intended by those Harley and Davidson boys. The mechanical side of motorcycles is something amazing in itself. But the emotional side can be even more complicated to understand. It moves us in a three-dimensional way; physically, socially and emotionally. For over one hundred years, mechanics have never had to replace the emotional part of a motorcycle.
5 Shutterbug, LOH, Sponsorʼs Words & City Cycle Sales Information APRIL 2015 FLINT HILLS CHAPTER # Shutterbug Linda Rush photo editor LOH Corner of the World Claudia Perry Ladies of Harley Thank you, ladies, for meeting with me before our HOG meeting. I will have a ladiesʼ meeting every three months. It will be 20 minutes before our regular meeting upstairs. Ladies, if you are interested in ordering some matching Ladies of Harley t-shirts, I have a sign up sheet at City Cycle Sales and Scott has the catalog. Itʼs turquoise with some bling bling and the cost is $20. Please have your order and payment in before April 20 so we can wear the shirts on the day of the Run for the Wall or for any other upcoming events. I talked to Dean and he is willing to do a 30-minute seminar at the next HOG meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is invited. I want to say thank you to everyone that came last Saturday the 11th and helped with the zipper pulls for the Run for the Wall. Afterwards, we all rode to Wamego for lunch and admired all the beautiful tulips. A Word from our Sponsor Honey Grant City Cycle Sales City Cycle Sales is making some changes in the Dealership for the best. I will be retiring at the end of May after 36 years and I donʼt know what I am going to do when I grow up. I do know over the years I have worked with some of the best employees. They always had nothing to say but good about helping our customers. The H.O.G. Chapter has been one of our strong supporters in the Dealership for many years. I will be stepping down with some of the projects and you will have Scott and Jeff working with you. I canʼt say enough about both of them. They give their hearts to the business. I have known most of you and your families and enjoyed the fun of sharing. Friendships never die they just get better. I will be around in the Dealership to help where they need help through the end of May. At City Cycle Sales Our friendly staff works hard to build quality relationships with our customers. We not only want you to feel comfortable doing business with us, we also want you to walk away feeling great about your experience with City Cycle Sales Inc. Summer Hours: Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. I would like to update the photos and bioʼs for all the officers on the web page. Please be thinking about what you want to put there. Iʼll try to have my camera with me when Iʼm at the shop and we can get this done quickly. Also, I want you all to be aware that there are a number of books in the television seating area at the dealership with pictures of previous yearʼs activities. I hope to work on them throughout the year with Deb A. and any other former photographers to get them marked so we can really enjoy them more.
