1 The San Diego Streamer August 2015 VOLUME 08 ISSUE Four A Monthly newsletter for the members and friends of the San Diego CA Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Viva Italia August 2015 San Diego Airstream Rally We arrived a day early and were welcomed by a very friendly staff that recommended a shady site. There was only one word to describe the weather HOT! W e enjoyed a cooling dip in the pool followed by stargazing. The sky was very clear and it was the last night of the Perseid meteor shower. We saw about a dozen shooting stars in the cool late evening. An early morning hike on Friday around the perimeter of the Sacred Rocks Reserve provided a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The rock formations were very interesting, but we didn t climb around them because we didn t want to perturb any snakes. Floridians Pat & Bill Shay joined our rally after visiting their son in San Diego and are next heading to the Southwest Caravan. Donna & Lee Hamby, just back from International, brought their grandchildren, Maya and Gabriel. Zella, Richard, Elizabeth and William Burk brought their shiny 1956 Airstream and their 2 Scotties. Irene & Rick Blacklock shared stories of their exciting European River Cruise. Lisa, Kelly & Austin had a fun surprise for everyone at Saturday s dinner. Trish & Vince were busy, busy, busy all weekend and introduced us to their son, Steve, and his lovely wife, Dee. Donna & Phil Westermann kicked back and enjoyed all the camaraderie. 2 July s Rally at Sacred Rock Contributed by Donna & Phil Westermann Lisa Austin & Kelly s Watermelon Punch Friday evening s heavy hors d oeuvres included a variety of delectable foods. Trish & Vince greeted everyone with a cold watermelon beverage of their own creation. Yummy! Saturday s breakfast of eggs, pancakes & sausages was delicious and Austin s help in making the pancakes was appreciated. The day was spent in the pool, exploring the facility, relaxing in the shade, and enjoying everyone s company. Saturday evening s dinner was spectacular! The Crawfords created a punch filled watermelon complete with spigot. Trish and Vince provided an Italian feast chicken cacciatore, spaghetti, garlic bread, & antipasto salad. And just in case that wasn t enough food, attendees brought salads and dessert. Throughout dinner, Italian music played in the background. Delizioso!! A very special thank you to our hosts, Trish & Vince, and all the attendees that made the weekend so much fun. Lets do this again soon! Richard, Zella Burk, Donna and Lee Hamby Donna & Phil Westermann ( Photo s by Donna) Thanks Burks Silver Bullet Phil W and Bill Shay Our Site Pat Shay, Sorry I missed you! 3 Bev s Goodbye contributed By: Dan and Marcy Smith to Vince from our 2016 upcoming president: Art Reifman Vince, Bev with Lowell Region Rally Hosted by San Diego in Hemet At this time we have two members who have agreed to take on open Trustee positions being vacated by Dan and Bev. They are Yasin Latif and Reiko S. We still are in need to identify individuals to the 2nd VP, Treasure and Secretary, as well as the newsletter editor, as I understand that Bri has backed out. If the board or others have suggestions please let me know, time is getting short. Art Reifman Letter from Sacred Oaks Bev with New B Van and her wonderful companion Cinder Hay Trailer at the Hobo Rally Early Happy Years Vincent and Trish: We hope that you had a safe trip back home. It's been our pleasure having you and the Airstream Group at our park. Although the weather was hotter than normal, we hope that all had a good experience. We look forward to your next visit with us and we would appreciate your review on Trip Adviser/Yelp so that others have the opportunity to get to know us. Also please visit: (the parent company of The Oaks At Sacred Rocks) and let us know how we may be of service to you and the members of your group. Sincerely, Ray and the entire team Copyright August 2015 by The San Diego Streamers. Reproduction in whole or part without written permission prohibited. Page 3

4 Presidents Message I would like to comment about our rally the oaks at sacred rocks. Weather First of all we were warned that weather would be seriously hot to the point of causing health issues, well they were right it was hot. But not unbearable. We all have air conditioning in our rigs and handled the heat well. Most important, we had a fabulous Clubhouse that was comfortable and suited us well during our weekends of meeting together. The RV Park The RV Park was very rustic as I found to be conducive to our camping experience. There were wild animals all over, but none so prevalent as the coyote howling in the evening. Even Finnigan, my dog, sensed them surrounding the Park. I was confused when I heard Finnigan growling where I saw nothing out there for him to grow at he sensed the coyote. The Clubhouse Being host at this rally was a challenge. We had to load all of our cookware for Saturday breakfast and dinner- but the fun part was cooking. Meals turned out well with plenty of leftovers. Breakfast went along smoothly with the help of our new chef Austin Crawford. He managed to make all of the pancakes for this rally and pancakes were the best ever. It wasn t by chance that the Clubhouse room was decorated in Italian colors by Trish. She did a fabulous job with some help in decorating this Clubhouse. The Italian theme did add to ambiance. Welcome I was happy to see the Richard & Stella Burk show up for the rally with their daughter and son. It was also nice to see Lee & Donna Hamby, a new members to our San Diego Airstream Unit, who brought their grandson and granddaughter along to share our weekend experience. Finally, I would like to welcome my newly married son and daughter in law: Steve and Dee Campanella. It was great having this diversity of family units at our rally. We welcome more family units to attend our rallies in the future. Come Again Thank you to all for coming to this rally despite the elevated temperatures. I d like to share some verses that I composed some months ago that explains, Who We Are: We are proud members of a camping class, Towing our trailers as we did in the past, WALLY BYON CARAVAN CLUB is our name, We ve been around, playing that same old game, This we do with people we know, Instead of sitting around, with no where to go, We travel each month, with gleams in our eyes, For camping it seems, is what we realize, A silver bullet, you see in your sight, With aluminum spheres spent, is how it was right, Shaped like a plane, and one of a kind, It s an Airstream trailer, that s our great find, A simple style is always the way, Not missing the comfort of living at home, We re free in the wild, for now to roam, With others to share our interest in time, A simple life, where we can find, A natural world, that would never been seen. from our up coming new President Art Reifman. At this time we have two members who have agreed to take on open Trustee positions being vacated by Dan and Bev. They are Yasin Latif and Reiko S. We still are in need to identify individuals to the 2nd VP, Treasurer and Secretary, as well as the newsletter editor, If the board or others have suggestions please let me know, time is getting short. Inge has volunteered to be treasurer. We also need Hosts for next year s rallies. Copyright August 2015 by The San Diego Streamers.
