Lake Tahoe Airstream Club September 2016 WBCCI \ 2016 Hitting the Road for Adventure! September: & October: & November: December: 2016 Rally & Event Schedule 9/9-12 Rally at Truckee River RV Park Truckee, CA 9/9-10/15 Caravan for Albuquerque Balloon Festival 10/7-10 Almond Tree RV Park Chico, CA 10/12-16 Region 12 Rally Hemet, CA (see attached coupon) 11/18-20 Nevada City Flash Rally Inn Town Campground, Nevada City Date TBD Holiday Luncheon in Reno More Rallies will be added as we find hosts and make reservations for our group! Interested in hosting a rally or know of a great rally spot for us to check out? Check your roster for contact information and any of the officers with your ideas! I m hoping you all are having a wonderful summer and great adventures. Jack and I have been on the road a lot this summer and taking full advantage of being retired. This summer we traveled back to West Virginia to the International Rally in Lewisburg. It was a great rally and we had over 660 rigs in attendance! The Airstreamers were there when the rain and flood waters hit the surrounding towns. Because of those storms and the massive amount of rain in such a short time, we were without water and electricity for several days. With no lights, it made the IBT meeting very interesting! Even though we had to deal with a few inconveniences, the people around the area suffered major damage to their homes and property. But the Airstreamers came to the rescue and helped unload trucks carrying emergency supplies, worked at local emergency camps, and donated over $50,000 to the local community. It was amazing! I am so proud to belong to such a wonderful organization. The LTAC Board had a meeting last week at the Stansbury s house to discuss some Club business. The topics discussed were next year s rallies, rally hosts, a rally fee, and 2017 LTAC elected officers and committee chairs. I will discuss each of those topics in some detail below but be aware that we will be having a meeting to discuss them and hoping to get your input at the Truckee rally in September. Next Year s Rallies. A lot of work has been done trying to come up with rally sites for One problem that we are running into is the large deposit amounts many RV Parks are requiring to hold a date for rallies. We do not have the funds in our treasury to pay for these deposits. Below are luncheons/rallies the Board has come up with so far. I have also included the remaining 2016 rallies for your information. The rallies for 2017 are far from being completed but wanted to give you an idea of what is being planned and hopefully get your input. With this advanced notice, you can put these rallies on your calenders.
January February - Date TBD March - Date TBD April - Date TBD May June 7-11 July 7-10 August - Dates: TBD September 8-11 October 6-8 October Caravan to the Bluegrass Festival in Blythe, CA. Host: Hampels Maintenance Rally. Fallen Leaf Lake? Host: Stansburys Santa Cruz/Felton Redwoods. Joint Rally with NorCal. Hosts needed. If interested, please contact Mary Diamond for details by Sept 15th Pioneer RV Park, Quincy. Hosts needed Prosser in Truckee? Hosts needed Balloon Festival in Reno/Gold Ranch RV or Rally in Gerlach/Empire, NV with mine tour. Host: Hampels Possible Urban rally weekend in Carson City, NV prior to Region Rally in Jackson. Please read the article in this newsletter about an Urban Rally. Very exciting and hope we can pull it off! Region Rally in Jackson, CA Rally Hosts As you can see we have a lot of things planned for 2017 but need rally hosts. We will discuss this more at the rally in September. Hosting can be intimidating and a lot of work but also fun and rewarding. Please, consider hosting a rally with another couple. It can cut down on the amount of work and be a lot of fun too. If we don t get hosts for these events, they will have to be cancelled. Rally Fee. A rally fee has been proposed as a way to build up the funds in our treasury. This fee is a $5 charge per person who attends the rally. The Board thought it would be a good way to increase our LTAC treasury fund and eventually allow us the ability to be able to put down the deposits required by the RV Parks. We will be discussing and voting on this at the September rally. LTAC Unit Officers and Committee Chairman. It is time to put together a slate of LTAC Unit Officers and Committee Chairman for The Board has discussed this and we have a suggestion we would like to bring to the members on next year s Officers and Committee Chairman at the Truckee Rally. For your information, the process of electing Officers is as follows: After we have a slate of Officers, an vote will take place the first of October, then the installation of Officers will take place at our December luncheon. Here is a list of positions on the LTAC board. LTAC Elected Officers: President 1st Vice President Treasurer Secretary. LTAC Committee Members: Newsletter Editor Membership Chair Webmaster Caravan Chair. On another subject, Jack and I will be leading a caravan (or seeing if there would be an interest in a caravan) down to the fairgrounds in Blythe, CA for the annual Bluegrass Festival. This will be a totally dry camping event. We went last year and met Warren and Merna Hull down there and just had a great time. The weather is nice, music was fantastic (if you like Bluegrass), and the biggest flea market in the world is just 20 miles away in Quartzite, AZ! The Bluegrass Festival reservations open up in October and they are on-line. You arrive on January 19th and the music goes from Friday January 20th to Sunday January 22nd. Departure is on Monday January 23rd. Please let me know if you are interested in caravanning down together. It will only be a one night stay somewhere on the road to Blythe. Hope to see you at the Truckee Rally! Kathy Hampel LTAC President
2016 Officers President: Kathy Hampel Vice President: John Diamond Secretary: Jack Hampel Treasurer: Mary Diamond Membership & Webmaster: Bob Stansbury Caravan Chair: Barney Rabold Newsletter: Margaret Handshoe Dues are Due! WBCCI membership dues are now due and we need to have them in to Mary Diamond or done electronically to Jackson Center by October 31st. Mary sent out an on August 27th about renewals and how to renew on-line. If you have any questions for Mary about membership dues, please contact her by phone at (925) or at June 2017 Joint Rally with NorCal 6/6-6/11 We have an opportunity to enjoy a joint rally with LTAC & the NorCal unit. The rally site is Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort in Felton, CA. We have 11 sites on hold until October 15th, the site rate is $64.94 per night. While this may seem a bit pricey it s an opportunity to have a five-day vacation in the Santa Cruz Mountains close to Santa Cruz, The Boardwalk, Aptos, Capitola, Half Moon Bay and the north coast as far as San Francisco! You can t get a hotel room in that area for anywhere close to that price! We are looking for someone willing to host this event, work with the NorCal rally chair and find out if there is any interest from our LTAC membership in attending this rally. If anyone is interested and willing to be that host PLEASE contact Mary by Thursday September 15th for details. If we do not have anyone that can take on this rally by that date we will need to release the spots and cancel the rally. ANYBODY INTERESTED IN AN URBAN RALLY? Don t see your name? We are still waiting for Birthday and Anniversary dates for a bunch of you, but for now... Happy birthday! Hedda Smithson 9/20 John Muff 9/21 Cecelia Stansbury and I were asked to do an Airstream event in Carson City by the Visitor s Bureau. They mentioned a parade or some kind of event downtown. This all occurred while we were planning the Region Rally in We had also become aware of Urban Rallies in Michigan, Texas and Idaho. What happens is we take over a couple of blocks in the downtown area and hold a rally right there. As you know, the community becomes enthralled with all the aluminum on display. As Cecelia and I kicked these ideas around, we were planning potential rallies for We wanted to not have a rally in October because we want to encourage members to attend the Region 12 Rally in Jackson, California next year. That s when we thought of a way to combine the Urban idea with the R12 Rally. On October 6, 7th and 8th, we will hold an Urban Rally in Carson City. After that, we will lead a 100 mile caravan over Carson Pass and down highway 88 to the Jackson Rancheria Casino and RV park. That is the site of the R12 Rally. It is being hosted by the NorCal Airstream Club. We are very early in the planning process but we do have 14 months to get ready for this event. There is an abundance of things to do within easy walking distance in Downtown Carson City. The Stansburys are going to do some more checking with the City. Let us know if you are interested in this event and if you might attend. The caravan to California would be optional. -Bob
ROBERT S RULES OF ORDER Bodie Days Rally - August 2016 We just finished the third LTAC Rally. It began on Friday evening, August 12th at the MeadowCliff RV Park in Coleville, California. We began with a happy hour in the social hall and then a burn your own meat pot luck outdoors on the patio. In attendance were LTAC members, Bob & Cecelia Stansbury, Warren & Myrna Hull, and Richard& Sharon Baldwin. Next we had Long Beach members Chuck & Linda Maddox (soon to be LTAC members) and affiliates Wheels & Doris Wheeler (SNU) and Jerry & Sandra Bangert (South Coast). We found out that the cliffs behind the Park are lit up at night. It was a beautiful evening. On Saturday morning, we left for the hour long drive to Bodie, California. This is the famous ghost town at 8300 feet elevation above Mono Lake. This was the Bodie Days celebration and they put on quite a show. There were mine tours, kids games at the school house and over 100 people in period costumes walking the streets of the town. Over 30 horses and mules were moving about pulling wagons and buggies along with freight wagons and even a mule pack train. All of this activity and the large number of visitors brought the town back to life for most of that day. A rich variety of photographic opportunities kept camera bugs very busy. Most of us spent the day and had lunch there. Upon our return to the RV park, we had another Happy Hour and then headed to Topaz Lodge for dinner. Everybody enjoyed the meal and the sunset on the Lake. On Sunday, we took the 30 mile drive over Monitor Pass to the small town of Markleeville and had lunch at a very busy Deli in this tiny town. Cecelia and I went 4 more miles and visited the Grover Hot Springs. It is up a beautiful valley and has both a hot and cold pool. Cecelia enjoyed it as she was very sore from recently being launched off the back of a horse. Everyone made it back to the rigs and we ventured into Walker for some great BBQ. We all sat around the fire pit that night and were joined by the owner of the RV Park. He kept us entertained with stories of how he bought the place and expanded it for use by campers. He is currently a Mono County Supervisor. Monday morning, we left for home. The Wheelers remained in camp and left later that week for an SNU (Sierra Nevada Unit) rally at Obsidian Dome. Hope to see you all at our next rally in Truckee. Our first LTAC caravan will leave from that site and end up at the Balloon Fiesta and Death Valley. The Stansburys will leave Truckee and head for the 51st Annual Pendleton Roundup Rally hosted by the Oregon Unit. Here s an Airstream farewell, See you down the road. -Bob
Milan Kundera on Memories and Travel Whoever wishes to remember must not stay in one place, waiting for the memories to come of their own accord! Memories are scattered all over the immense world, and it takes voyaging to find them and make them leave their refuge. Flash Rally in Nevada City Just a reminder... we have scheduled a flash rally in Nevada City and the brand new Inn Town Campground! This means you can contact the park and make your own arrangements. The rally will be Friday, November 18- Sunday, November 20. It s the weekend before Thanksgiving, so we are having a Friends-giving! I ll send out more information to people who sign up for our own Thanksgiving style feast! The website for the Inn Town Campground is: Check out their site to see what is available- there are some full hook-up sites and some with only water and electric. Brian and I camped there in August and just loved it! If you have any questions, give me a call.
