2 SPECIAL FEATURE Neighbourhood on Watch Just over a year ago, a handful of Glen Anil residents decided to form a network to alert each other, via social media tools, of suspicious activities within the immediate area. Using WhatsApp they created a working model that has been useful in alerting neighbours of issues, and preventing potential situations. Due to their success, the Glen Anil Neighbourhood Watch membership has grown steadily and now has over 190 registered members. They are encouraging all residents within Glen Anil to join this network and have set up Alert WhatsApp groups for each street, allowing neighbours to communicate directly with each other. The street admins relay pertinent information to a central group and associated security companies, us included. They have also now launched a website ( to provide a convenient means for residents to register their street s WhatsApp group and become involved in this neighbourhood initiative. The website provides information, safety tips and other features. There are no enforced neighbourhood patrols, as those involved believe that just being aware of your surroundings, and reporting unusual activity, is a very effective form of patrolling. The sense of community promoted between neighbours thanks to this communication network has also made the area much safer, as people feel less isolated and vulnerable, knowing that help is near at hand. They also have a Facebook Group where members can discuss topics of a more general nature pertaining to the neighbourhood. Here at Marshall Security we highly recommend that you join this sort of initiative as we all attempt to take our neighbourhoods back, together. Northglen News, 16 December 2016 Website:

3 MEET MARSHALL SPOTLIGHT ON: ERNIE OLIVIER Official Title/Position Sales Representative - North Coast Ballito. How long have you worked for Marshall Security? I have been employed at Marshall Security since 1st of December What did you do today? Today (Sunday) I was busy doing customization work on one of my vehicles as car modifications is a hobby of mine. Why do you do what you do? I am passionate about security and love sales in the security industry, the one on one interaction with people and providing security solutions that are not just once off sales but the beginning of a trust relationship. What do you think makes Marshall Security different? Why I think Marshall is different from the crowd is the fact that they truly stand for: in case of anything - they substantiate their motto, and it is great to be part of a team whose focus is people not just money. This is because a lot of companies have the objective of money first then service and people, refreshingly Marshall stands for service to people then money. Best part of the job? Closing deals, driving around Ballito and seeing the Marshall sign boards - knowing that I was a part of making this happen. I guess it goes hand in hand with providing a solution that fulfills the clients security needs and leaving that same client with a better understanding of what security is about. A little background information / what did you do before Marshall Security? I ve been in the security industry for 23 years, started as a security guard, worked myself up to a installer and then into sales. In between I owned my own business, dabbled in car restoration and home maintenance / renovations. Learnt anything that you didn t know before you started? I Believe everyday presents opportunities to learn new things as long as you are open and willing to do so and so far at Marshall not only is this true but I have experienced first hand that I am not just a number but a team member. Finish these sentences (for a little fun): Who knew that a security company could be so alarming. I wasn t expecting to see NO WAY!! Really... could it be? Nooooo - can t be... It s amazing what you can do with the answers to these questions!

Advanced Life Support practitioners from Netcare911 and Crisis Medical worked fervently to stabilize the brother and sister before they were rushed by ambulance, under constant advanced life support care, to nearby Netcare Umhlanga Hospital for the immediate care they required. The domestic worker sustained minor injuries and smoke inhalation in the ordeal and was treated at the scene and taken through to hospital for further assessment.
