1 Keynote Speakers MARY-ANNE PORT, JIM TURNOUR Jabalbina Yalanji Corporation: our experiences of Jabalbina is Eastern Kuku Yalanji (EKY) People s Registered Native Title Body Corporate, primary L Trust registered Cultural Heritage Body. As Trustees of EKY Peoples traditional estate, Jabalbina s vision is to be caring custodians of bubu (l) so EKY People benefit culturally, ally, academically socially, while enhancing EKY tribal lore cultural values. This paper explores Jabalbina s experiences in ILUA implementation many challenges traditional owners have faced continue to face in trying to achieve this vision. The paper will discuss considerable progress that has been made in areas including country based planning ranger programs. It will also explore failures to properly resource governance of corporation limitations this imposes including around future act or referral processes, cultural heritage assessments assisting EKY People to fulfil ir aspirations to return to live on, manage make a living from ir bubu. Mary-Anne Port is a proud Eastern Kuku Yalanji woman who also has connections to Thaypan country around Coen in central Cape York Peninsula. She is a proud mor who has raised many children to be strong in ir Bama culture. As well as serving on Jabalbina Board, she has also spent time working for community on Goobidi-Bamanga Community Advancement Cooperative Society Ltd Burungu Corporation boards. Jim Turnour, as CEO of Jabalbina Jim is responsible for ensuring organisation is focused on supporting Eastern Kuku Yalanji traditional owners achieve ir aspirations. His previous work experience is in academia, as an MP in Australian Parliament, running his own business working for Queensl Department of Primary Industries Fisheries. He is an Adjunct Research Fellow at Cairns Institute, James Cook University where is undertaking PhD studies part time a focus on.

4 Wayne Bergmann is current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kimberley Region Economic Development (KRED) Enterprises, where his current focus is on helping people get control of ir future through providing increased business opportunities independence. He is also a member of Prime Minister s Norrn Australia Advisory Group Managing Director of Maritime Pty Ltd. Bruce Martin is a Wik man from Aurukun in western Cape York Peninsula. In last few years, he has been instrumental in establishment of Aak Puul Ngantam (Our Ancestral Country) APN Cape York a community-owned organisation which has as a primary focus of productive livelihoods on traditional Wik country. Bruce is currently Managing Director of Regional Development Corporation. Mr Bergmann previously spent 10 years as head of Kimberley L Council. Through this role, Mr Bergmann prioritised securing interests of Kimberley Traditional Owners through Native Title system. Mr Bergmann has also held significant roles in negotiating agreements between resource developers, industry Government on behalf of Traditional Owners to secure long-term benefits for people. He has also implemented l sea management activities across region, including Kimberley Ranger Program held role of Chair at Norrn Australian L Sea Management Alliance (NAILSMA).
5 Ricky Archer is a Djungan man from Western Tablels region of North Qld. Mr Archer works as Project Coordinator for North Australian L & Sea Management Alliance (NAILSMA). He is a member of Federal Minister for Environment, The Hon. Greg Hunt s, Advisory Committee. Ricky is also Co Chair of Norrn Australia Future Generations Panel which provides a youth perspective strategic contribution towards North Australian Experts Forum on sustainable in North Australia region. Mr Archer has been employed in NRM sector for over ten years a background in GIS, Traditional Knowledge recording & database management. He has previously worked regional bodies in Qld Gulf Western NSW regions. Ricky is passionate towards empowering people in NRM initiatives a strong focus on promoting youth participation. Dr Lisa Strelein, Director of Research at Australian Institute of Isler Studies. Lisa s research publications have focused on relationship between peoples state, role of courts in defining peoples. Lisa has made a significant contribution to academic debate on in Australia, including her book Compromised Jurisprudence: Native Title Cases since. Lisa maintains strong networks in system, conducting research projects in partnership, or in response to, needs of representative bodies holders as well as government departments. Lisa has an interest in taxation corporate design planning elements of organisations. Lisa is convenor of annual National Native Title Conference, which remains leading annual policy conference in Australia. She has degrees in Commerce Law awarded a PhD, for her sis examining sovereignty common law, from Australian National University (ANU) in Lisa is an Adjunct Professor at ANU. The Native Title Year in Review The Year in Review presentation provides an opportunity to recognise celebrate achievements of groups over last year. While we acknowledge that proving remains an onerous challenging task, it is inspiring to see those who have reached that milestone are now looking forward to enjoyment of ir reasserting mselves as first peoples of ir territories.
