4 Day 1: Monday 12th November, 2018 ARRIVE AUCKLAND With personal pickup from home, we arrive at Melbourne Airport to join our Air New Zealand flight to Auckland. The tour is escorted from Melbourne by our O Shannessy s Tour Director. Welcome to New Zealand! We are met on arrival at the Auckland International Airport before being transferred to our hotel. We are fortunate to have the exclusive services of Leisure Time Tours whom provide our luxury tour coach and have more than 25 years experience touring New Zealand. (L in-flight, D) OVERNIGHT: Grand Millennium Hotel, AUCKLAND Day 2: Tuesday 13th November, 2018 AUCKLAND BAY OF ISLANDS There's no place in the world like the Bay of Islands, a stunning region of 144 secluded islands, abundant in natural wonders and marine life. Regarded as the birthplace of New Zealand as a bi-cultural nation, the Bay of Islands is rich in both Maori culture and early European history. Discover well-preserved Maori and European relics of the past and learn more about the unique history that has shaped our country. Departing Auckland city we tour to the Bay of Islands taking us through spectacular scenery of native forests and sub-tropical bush to the foreshores of the National Maritime Park. At the seaside town of Paihia, in the beautiful Bay of Islands, we ll take a guided tour of the Waitangi Treaty House where New Zealand s history began. 5 Day 3: Wednesday 14th November, 2018 BAY OF ISLANDS We have a touring day to Cape Reinga, the northernmost tip of New Zealand. Our luxury airconditioned coach will be driven along a quicksand stream and raced through the waves of mighty Ninety Mile Beach. At Cape Reinga we will enjoy spectacular views, including the meeting of the blue Pacific Ocean and deep green Tasman Sea. Our tour includes a visit to Puketi Forest to see giant Kauri trees. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Kingsgate Autolodge Hotel, PAIHIA Day 4: Thursday 15th November, 2018 BAY OF ISLANDS AUCKLAND This morning we board a luxury catamaran to cruise the Bay of Islands to Cape Brett before making a passage through the Hole in the Rock. Following our return to the harbour, we disembark and travel back to Auckland. Our journey will take us past scenic native forests and sub-tropical bush, before crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge to arrive back into the spectacular city scene of Auckland city by twilight. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Grand Millennium Hotel, AUCKLAND Day 5: Friday 16th November, 2018 AUCKLAND SIGHTS After breakfast we embark on an Auckland City Sightseeing Tour. We will learn about the City's history and discover the spectacular scenery on this introductory tour of Auckland - we enjoy the panoramic views from the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park near Mission Bay and see the Winter

6 Gardens in the Auckland Domain. We will journey around Auckland's waterfront to visit Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World and Antarctic Encounter for a scuba diver's view of the sharks, massive stingrays and other deep sea creatures as we travel through the Perspex Tunnel. We will also take a trip to the South Pole to see live penguin colonies, walk through a replica of Scott s Hut at Antarctica and learn about his ill-fated expedition. This afternoon is at leisure to further explore Auckland the City of Sails. (BD) OVERNIGHT: Grand Millennium Hotel, AUCKLAND Day 6: Saturday 17th November, 2018 AUCKLAND WELLINGTON This morning we are transferred from our hotel to the Auckland Train Station to board The Northern Explorer. The Northern Explorer is a journey through the heart of the North Island, travelling between Auckland - New Zealand's largest city and home of the Sky Tower, to Wellington New Zealand's arts and culture capital. Along the way we pass the Central North

7 Island ski towns of National Park and Ohakune, popular with young and old alike. We also enjoy fantastic views of New Zealand farmland, the volcanic plateau, Mount Ruapehu, the world famous Raurimu Spiral and stunning river gorges - all from our panoramic windows or open air viewing decks allowing us the best possible views. On arrival into Wellington we are transferred to our accommodation. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: James Cook Grand Chancellor Hotel, WELLINGTON Day 7: Sunday 18th November, 2018 WELLINGTON CHRISTCHURCH Today we cruise the Cook Strait heading through the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sounds into the South Island. On arrival in Picton we board The Coastal Pacific train and travel from the delightful port of Picton through to Christchurch, the South Island s largest city. This journey is a scenic feast of New Zealand, with the Kaikoura Mountain Ranges on one side of our train and the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline on the other. One of the world's most scenic train journeys, the Coastal Pacific travels through 22 tunnels and crosses 175 bridges. The

8 Coastal Pacific includes an open air viewing carriage where all our senses are awakened with the clean, fresh, sea air. On arrival we are transferred to our accommodation. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Quality Elms Hotel, CHRISTCHURCH Please note: that due to track rebuilding after the earthquake, the Coastal Pacific rail journey is subject to it being open, and alternative travel arrangements will be substituted should the Coastal Pacific rail service not be running. Day 8: Monday 19th November, 2018 CHRISTCHURCH AKAROA CHRISTCHURCH We depart the hotel this morning to visit the beautiful unspoilt old French whaling depot of Akaroa on Banks Peninsula. Akaroa was settled by the French in an early attempt to colonise New Zealand and still retains a good deal of French character in its street names, boutique shops and cafes.

9 We visit a cheese factory en-route and sample the local produce. We will then enjoy a cruise on Akaroa Harbour which is known for its wildlife including penguins, marine birdlife and the very rare Hector s Dolphins (smallest species in the world). Back on dry land we enjoy lunch today in Akaroa and then we have time to explore the charming village with its cafes, art and craft shops and colonial style architecture. This afternoon we return to our accommodation. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Quality Elms Hotel, CHRISTCHURCH Day 9: Tuesday 20th November, 2018 CHRISTCHURCH FRANZ JOSEF From Christchurch we traverse the Southern Alps aboard the famous Tranz- Alpine rail journey to Arthurs Pass. From our carriage we ll see the fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. Our train then climbs into the Southern Alps. Once we have crossed into the Southern Alps we are met at the Village of Arthurs Pass by our coach to continue our journey to the West Coast or the Coast as locals call it, stopping in Hokitika where we visit the Greenstone and Glass Blowing factories. Further south we tour the

10 Westland National Park, the home of Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. On arrival, time is available for optional scenic flights, before continuing onto our accommodation for the night. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Scenic Hotel, FRANZ JOSEF Day 10: Wednesday 21st November, 2018 FRANZ JOSEF QUEENSTOWN Driving towards the southern end of the South Island s West Coast Road, there is a strong sense of entering a primeval land and a feeling of total isolation. Arriving at Haast, we are surrounded by a landscape of rainforest, wetlands, sand dunes and surf-pounded shingle beaches. This wilderness forms part of the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area, so designated because South Westland and Fiordland have some of the most dramatic forest, mountain scenery and natural resources in the world. From the Westland National Park we travel through the Haast River valleys and over the Haast Pass to Makaroa and onto the upper reaches of Lake Wanaka. Travelling past Lake Hawea we reach the popular Lake Wanaka, the starting point of the mighty Clutha River. This afternoon we travel via Cromwell following the Kawerau Gorge Road into Queenstown. 11 Day 11: Thursday 22nd November, 2018 QUEENSTOWN Today is at leisure. Visit the Remarkable s or Coronet Peak. Experience the thrill of a jet-boat ride along the Shotover or Kawarau Rivers. Perhaps a scenic 4 wheel drive excursion through Skippers Canyon, it s up to you. Your Optional Touring Booklet will give you plenty of ideas on how to spend your time. This evening we take a cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the steamer TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak Station to dine at the Colonel s Homestead. (BD) OVERNIGHT: Copthorne Lakefront Hotel, QUEENSTOWN Day 12: Friday 23rd November, 2018 QUEENSTOWN MILFORD SOUND TE ANAU Leaving Queenstown we skirt the shores of Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand s third largest lake travelling via Te Anau we reach the beautiful Eglinton Valley climbing to Homer Tunnel before descending through the spectacular Cleddau Canyon to reach Milford Sound, where we enjoy a cruise of the Sound. The Sound is dominated by the grandeur of Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls. Returning to Te Anau we reach our overnight accommodation. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Distinction Luxmore Hotel, TE ANAU

12 Day 13: Saturday 24th November, 2018 TE ANAU DUNEDIN Departing Te Anau we travel through some of New Zealand s most populated sheep country through to Lumsden and onto Gore before arriving in Dunedin the Edinburgh of the South. Upon our arrival into Dunedin, we board the Taieri Gorge Train. We leave from the historic Dunedin Railway Station for a scenic train ride into the spectacular Taieri Gorge to Pukerangi and return. We experience the dramatic changes in scenery from a bustling city to the remote hinterland regions, while marvelling at graceful wrought iron viaducts spanning deep ravines and admiring skilfully crafted stonework on bridges and tunnels. Tonight we dine with a decidedly Scottish air enjoying the Haggis presentation and dinner at the hotel. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Scenic Hotel Dunedin City, DUNEDIN

13 Day 14: Sunday 25th November, 2018 DUNEDIN OMARAMA This morning we visit Olveston House an impressive turn-of-the-century house that is still home to all the lavish furnishings and art collections that have been collected from all corners of the world. We continue to then take in the sights of this old Scottish City. Then onto Oamaru where we have time to look at the White Stone City. The old buildings have been constructed with local limestone. It was from Oamaru that New Zealand s first frozen meat was shipped in 1882 taking over three months to reach England and thus began New Zealand s most important export industry. Travelling inland through Benmore and Otematata, through Sailors Cutting we arrive at Omarama. (BLD) OVERNIGHT: Heritage Gateway Hotel, OMARAMA Day 15: Monday 26th November, 2018 OMARAMA CHRISTCHURCH A day for spectacular sights. We head north to skirt the shore of Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook, New Zealand s highest mountain. We have time to enjoy an optional scenic flight over the ancient rivers of ice and the West Coast Glaciers (weather permitting a highly recommended option). Travelling to Tekapo we witness the magnificent blue waters of Lake Tekapo. Here we view the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Statue of the Collie dog, before travelling the vast Mackenzie Basin, over Burke s Pass through Fairlie, Geraldine, Ashburton and across the Canterbury Plains into Christchurch. 14 Day 16: Tuesday 27th November, 2018 CHRISTCHURCH HOME PORT Farewell from New Zealand - today we will be transferred from the hotel to Christchurch International Airport for our flight home. Our chauffeurs will be waiting at Melbourne Airport to take us home after an unforgettable New Zealand experience.
