The business became Specialty Services in 2008 following expansion into a broader market of highly specialised construction projects. From design management to programming and construction, the skills and experience of our team enables us to deliver a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. Our work book is testament to our track record in delivering projects spanning aged care, health commercial, education, food-related facilities and other construction disciplines requiring specialised services. The Pre-construction team draws upon a pool of experience gained from delivering technical and specific solutions to complex projects. These skills include the capacity to provide in-house architectural capabilities, masterplanning, facility management, cost planning and budgeting and professional and licensed trades people. Supporting the Pre-Construction team are the Construction and Operations Managers who have helped build Specialty Services into the successful business it is today. Together with our team of estimators, project managers, contract administrators and site managers, our people have experience in delivering detailed and complex design in the markets of aged care, health, scientific research, education, retail, and food processing and manufacturing. 14 14 St Vincent s Hospital Refurbishment Brisbane, Queensland Excellent planning and management was required to overcome a number of challenges presented by this project, which involved refurbishing the main hospital and constructing an adjoining fivestorey extension. Challenges included no lift access, limited space for site establishment and material deliveries, the need to access operational areas and the day-to-day operation of the hospital. Applying a staged approach to works ensured the hospital could remain in operation for the duration of the project. $36.5 million 2010 Sisters of Charity Refurbishment/ Extension WATPAC VALUES

16 16 63 George Street (Stages 1 3) Brisbane, Queensland Located in the heart of the busy CBD, the amalgamation of two adjacent multi-storey buildings presented many challenges to the project team including materials delivery and handling, safety and on-site storage. Our team professionally handled these issues resulting in minimal disruption to workers and the public. As works took place on one building, the other building remained occupied therefore excellent communication and careful planning of works was critical to ensure noise, access, dust and odours were kept to a minimum. $45 million 2009 Department of Public Works Refurbishment WATPAC VALUES

18 18 Coolum Beach Retail Sunshine Coast, Queensland This award-winning project involved the construction of a modern two-storey retail complex incorporating 21 tenancies to replace the dilapidated centre previously location on David Low Way at Coolum Beach. It was important to capture the beach feel of Coolum as local interest in the project was high. New services and facilities formed part of the new centre and included a large landscaped zone with the protection and relocation of a number of mature pandanus trees from site. $6.6 million 2009 Sunshine Coast Regional Council Design and Construct Greenfield WATPAC VALUES

20 20 Oxford Park Monastery Mitchelton, Queensland This award-winning project involved the refurbishment of a three-storey brick monastery located within the Oxford Park Retirement Village. As a heritage-listed building, it was important to retain its architectural finishes throughout such as cornices, mouldings and stained glass windows. The project also included construction of 18 individual aged care living units and a number of associated support areas. 22 22 Baiada Poultry Hanwood Facility Expansion Hanwood, NSW This is an intricate construction project that draws on the expertise of the team s extensive experience in the food manufacturing sector. The project involves the design and delivery of significant facility upgrades within a fully-operational food processing plant, including upgrades to the site s infrastructure, fire fighting capabilities and live bird receiving capacity. 23 23 Brisbane Markets Limited Northern Warehouse & Gatehouse Rocklea, Queensland This building has set a new standard for construction quality and aesthetics for future buildings at the busy Brisbane Markets. The 4,500 square metre facility features cutting-edge, high humidity, fast cooling rooms that considerably improve the longevity of fresh produce ensuring consistency of quality for our client s customers. As one of Brisbane s biggest markets, the team was presented with the ongoing logistical challenge of managing the site in a constantly busy environment. $10.1 million 2011 Brisbane Markets Limited Refurbishment COMMITMENT ONE TEAM INSPIRATION INNOVATION CANDOUR

24 24 Baiada Protein Plant Tamworth, New South Wales This project involved the redevelopment of the poultry protein plant with a total gross floor area of 4,500 square metres. The original facility was extensively damaged by fire and was subsequently demolished in late Specialty Services designed and constructed the replacement facility including upgrades to match current codes and standards, and new technology and methods. The new facility consists of a structural steel framed building clad with precast walls and metal cladding, all on reinforced concrete slabs and foundations. Other works incorporated new services including HV transformer and MSB, access roads, external pavements and civil infrastructure. 25 25 Coca Cola Amatil (Aust) Facilities Richlands, Queensland Watpac Specialty Services constructed a new Alcoholic Ready to Drink Line Fill Room and Alcohol Farm Storage Facility. Works occurred in and around the operating facility, requiring open communication channels and thorough planning for all activities that affected production. 27 27 Brisbane Girls Grammar School Research and Learning Centre Brisbane, Queensland Watpac Specialty Services were responsible for the design management, programming and construction of this elite secondary school building. The new building provides students with a facility that meets the ideals of modern education with a design that encourages self-learning, individual decision making and responsibility. 28 28 Brisbane Grammar School Refurbishments Brisbane, Queensland Watpac refurbished five buildings within the operational school campus and were also engaged to create a contemporary Social Space for Grade 5 and 6 students. The refurbishment project included the construction of two commercial kitchens and expanding classroom facilities across the school in a staged approach, and delivering upgrades to existing services. Watpac utilised its extensive safety policies and comprehensive communication strategies to ensure minimal disruption to the school and the students who board there. $8.6 million 2014 Brisbane Grammar School Refurbishment WATPAC VALUES

29 29 Griffith University, G52 International Building Gold Coast, Queensland This project involved the construction of a new five-storey building on a greenfield site at Griffith University s Gold Coast Campus. The building houses the Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) and the Queensland Institute of Business and Technology (QIBT) and is known as the International Building (G52). As the building faces the busy Smith Street Motorway, special attention was paid to the façade and general form of the building. 30 30 Brisbane Boys College, College Hall Brisbane, Queensland Construction of the award-winning hall required careful planning and thorough communication to ensure the safety of and minimal disruption to, the students, staff and other stakeholders at this busy school campus. Works involved demolition of the existing College Hall and construction of a new five-storey replacement building including a two-storey 700-seat multi-purpose performance and speech hall on the upper levels, a two-storey Music Department on the middle levels and provision for future common areas and facilities on the lower level. $12.6 million 2011 Brisbane Boys College Design and Construct Brisbane Boys College WATPAC VALUES

31 31 Infrastructure Projects Our experience in delivering infrastructure projects spans a broad spectrum of works from minor upgrade of building services as part of a refurbishment to a complete master-planned upgrade of trunk main services including gas, HV/LV power, chilled water, fire systems, water, compressed air, across an entire site. Many of these projects are within extremely busy public spaces and this requires effective communication and engagement with our stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to operations and the successful delivery of these projects. 32 32 BAC Domestic Terminal Expansion Virgin Lounge Brisbane, Queensland This complex project involves expanding the terminal to house a larger Virgin Lounge and relocating and upgrading the Virgin Premium Valet area. The project also involves the relocation of vital inground infrastructure services. Watpac undertook extensive stakeholder engagement and communication to ensure a successful delivery of this project within the fully-operational busy Brisbane airport. $12 million 2015 Brisbane Airport Corporation Design and Construct Managing Contractor WATPAC VALUES

33 33 Johnson Path Upgrade Stage 2 Nathan, Queensland This project comprised two parts, integrating an upgrade to the main pedestrian link at Griffith University and master planning for the replacement and rectification of campus inground services infrastructure. The new path combines architectural features with glazed canopies and landscaped plazas to create both a functional and aesthetic covered pathway spanning the full length of the campus.
