5 Social program Welcome Reception Attendance to the Welcome Reception on Monday evening is included in all delegate registration fees. It will be the first opportunity to network, meet industry colleagues and also to register to the conference in advance. Visit of the IFT laboratory IFT provides a large range of equipment for static and dynamic testing of wire ropes and terminations, fibre ropes and cables. Moreover non destructive wire rope inspection (visual and electromagnetic) and testing of personal protective equipment are main fields of competence. To arrange the experimental work IFT owns a 1000 m² sized laboratory with multiple testing equipment. After the closing of the first conference days sessions IFT opens its laboratory for a detailed and informative visit. Conference Gala Dinner (Dress: Informal) The evening of the first conference day will include a Gala Dinner with an exciting line-up of entertainment and a creative menu. The dinner starts at 08:00 pm after the visit of the IFT laboratories. It takes place at the conference venue ( ). For an evening conclusion the Piano Bar of Maritim hotel is opened for a comfortable come together pm pm pm pm Welcome drink Conference Dinner pm am Conclusion at the Piano bar/ Maritim hotel Round table talks As the final event of the conference day the round table talks are a great opportunity to meet up with the authors and to conclude the conference prior to your departure (in the Lobby). 4

6 Excursion Technical & cultural Excursion PRELIMINARY On Thursday, March 26 the technical and cultural excursion takes place. After the transfer from the Maritim hotel to the Porsche museum and a guided visit of the exhibition we will go on to visit the Killesberg Hill Park ower. After a small lunch we will return to Maritim hotel. The excursion contains entrance fees, transportation costs and a small lunch. Below you can see the detailed schedule and details of the museum am am Meeting at am am Transfer to the Porsche museum am pm pm pm pm pm pm pm Visit of the new Porsche museum in 2 groups Lunchtime Visit of the Killesberg Tower Return to Porsche Museum The original Porsche museum opened in 1976 and was only big enough to hold around 20 exhibits. The work on the concept for the new Porsche museum bagan in 2003, the opening cerenomy was in The new Porsche museum stands on a conspicious junction just outside Porsche Headquarters. The display area covers 5600 square meters featuring around 80 exhibits, many rare cars and a variety of historical models. The museum was designde by the architectes Delugan Meissl, the exhibition spaces were designed by HG Merz. Let yourself be fascinated by the milestones of technology, future-oriented design and the unique history of motor vehicles. Killesberg Tower The Killesberg Tower in Killesberg Hill Park may look rather fragile, with its steel cables and filigree stairs, but it is sturdy enough to bear the weight of its visitors. Please enjoy the view from its upper platform. 5

7 Accompanying persons City Tour for accompanying persons While the first conference day (Tuesday, 24 th ) the accompanying persons can discover Stuttgart by their own preferences. We suggest a tour to the Art Museum Stuttgart, Merz&Benzing, Breuninger, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart aswell as Altes und Neues Schloss. This will give a short overview over the highlights of Stuttgart City and cultural, amusement and shopping possibilities. Below some examples of the city tour are listed. On the second day (Wednesday, 25 th ) the accompanying persons are going to visit Ludwigsburg Residential Palace (see below). The tour contains entrance fees, transportation costs and lunch. Length and outline of the accompanyings persons program depend on request and weather, so modifications are possible. NOTE: Thick clothing is necesary for this day, for the Ludwidgsburg Residental Palace is not heated! Wednesday, 25 th Guide: Mrs. Wehking 8:45 am City-Tour is starting at Maritim Hotel approx. 2:00 pm Route: Boschareal, Europaviertel, Stuttgart 21, Weissenhofsiedlung Ludwigsburg Residential Palace incl. Lunch Return to Weissenhof estate: One of the most important monuments of the Neues Bauen movement. It was created in 1927 as a building exhibition. In this 33 houses with 63 appartments, a total of 17 architects from Germany, France, Holland, Belgium and Austria formulated their solutions for living arrangements of the modern big city dweeler. Art museum Stuttgart: The spectacular glass cubicle is inspiring with its sleek elegance. The glass galleries invite you during the day to a magnificent view of the city and the surrounding slopes. With a museum shop, book shop, bar and restaurant as well as rooms for events, the glass cube is becoming an attraction - for the friends of art as well as for the people passing by and the visitors to the city. (Kleiner Schlossplatz 1, Stuttgart, 10.00am-06.00pm) Stuttgart Old Castle: The Old Castle goes back to a water fortress built in the 10 th century since 1948 the Wuerttemberg State Museum has been located in the castle. 8 Accompanying persons Stuttgart New Castle: With the New Castle Duke Carl Eugen had the last large Baroque residence castle facilities in Germany built. The cornerstone was laid on 3 rd September Richard von Weizsäcker (German President ) was born in an attic apartment of the castle in Today the castle is the home of the mististires of the Baden-Wuerttmberg state government and representation rooms. (Schlossplatz 4, Stuttgart) Stuttgart state gallery: Build in the years under King Wilhelm I of Wuerttemberg has been one of the most visited German museums. The classic building is home to the works from the 14 th to the 19 th century, connected to the old museum on the gallery level, the expansion by James Stirling, the New State Gallery is dedicated to the art of the 20 th century. (Konrad-Adenauer- Strasse 30-32, Stuttgart, 10.00am 06.00pm) Market hall: Reputed to be one of Germany's finest market halls this impressive building is a veritable paradise, full of epicurean delights and stylish and attractive household furnishings and garden equipment. Its successful combination of specialities from the four corners of the earth, high-class articles for an elegant ambience in the kitchen, house and garden, and tempting catering makes shopping in this historic architecture a special occasion in short: It is an aesthetic experience. (Dorotheenstrasse 4, Stuttgart, 07.00am 06.30pm) Merz & Benzing: It is a lovely world at the Merz & Benzing store. The shop with an out-of-the-ordinary selection of goods is part of the historical Art Nouveau Market Hall and offers an exquisite chose of wonderful things for house, garden and a lots more besides. (Dorotheenstrasse 4, Stuttgart, 09.30am 07.00pm) Breuninger: The Breuninger store offers a special kind of shopping enjoyment. Since 1881 the name of Breuninger has been synonymous in Stuttgart with excellent quality. The company, which is still under private ownership, is one of Europe s leading luxury suppliers. 10 Travel You can easily reach the hotel and the venue by plane, train and local public transit. If you plan to come by car please be aware you have an environmental badge which is obligatory for Stuttgart (also for foreigners). Please purchase your badge prior to your visit to Germany. Details about reaching the venue and the conference hotel are listed below. By car: Approaching Stuttgart on the A81 (highway no. 81) from Heilbronn: Leave highway via exit Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen => B10 (= through road no. 10), then take the B27 (Heilbronner Straße) in the direction of Stuttgart Zentrum (Stuttgart City Centre)/ Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Stuttgart Central Station) upon reaching Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Stuttgart Central Station, left side). Turn right into Kriegsbergstraße, then turn left into Rosenbergstraße. At the crossroads turn left into Seidenstraße. Approaching Stuttgart on the A8 (highway no. 8) from Karlsruhe, Munich or from the A81 (highway no. 81) from Böblingen/Sindelfingen: Take the A831 (highway no. 831) at highway intersection Stuttgart in the direction of Stuttgart West. On Rotebühlstraße drive on in the direction of City Centre until Rotebühlplatz. Turn left into Fritz-Elsass-Straße up to Berliner Platz. Turn into Seidenstraße. By train: Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Stuttgart Central Station): Take the city line/underground U9/U14 to Berliner Platz/ Liederhalle. From there the hotel is in walking distance (about 2 minutes). By plane: Arriving at Airport Stuttgart: Take the S-Bahn S2/S3 to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Stuttgart Central Station) continue as under By train. 9

11 Useful information Contact Climate The weather in Stuttgart in March is alternating. Sunny and warm days change with cold and rainy days, so an umbrella may be usefull. For more information please visit Taxi Taxies are called at Most taxis accept major credit cards. If you want to pay with a credit card, let the driver know before beginning the trip. Local public transport Maps of the local public transport net can be found at Banks Normal banking hours are from 09:00 to 18:00 hrs, Monday to Friday. There are ATMs usually located in connection with a bank branch, which accept a variety of international credit cards. The cards accepted are indicated on the dispenser. Lost or Stolen credit cards If your cards are stolen or lost, then you should cancel them immediately. In Germany there is a special number which you can dial for the most of the available credit cards (incl. Visa, Master Card, American Express). Phone: Emergency In case of an emergency dial 110 for ambulance and police. Dial 112 for firedepartment. Foreign mobile users should dial the before the emergency number above. English is fine - just speak as slowly and clearly as you can.
