3 What you should know about Linz Linz is home to more than 90 schools of all different types, several universities and technical colleges of higher education. Linz offers all facilities and amenities of a modern city yet is surrounded by the most beautiful scenery of mountains and cyrstal clear lakes. Climbing, Skiing, Swimming, Wind/Kitesurfing, Waterskiing and much more is within reach of a 30 to 60 minute drive. Futuristic architecture sits alongside ancient churches and open green spaces, making for a stimulating life in Linz. 6 Linz was the European Capital of Culture in 2009 and in 2014 was accepted into the international network of UNESCO Creative Cities (UCCN) as a City of Media Arts. Linz is home to more than inhabitants coming from all cultural backgrounds. The old town of Linz has a large choice of shops, bars and cafes, where the famous Linzer Torte, reputed to be the oldest cake in the world, can be sampled.

4 Working in Linz Getting the right visa Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland can reside up to 3 months without permit. EU/EEA Citizens who want to stay longer than 3 months need to prove that they have an income coming from employment or self employment and health insurance is covered for themselves and their family. Expats from Non-EU/EEA countries must apply for a residence and working permit after 6 months. Cost of Living Linz, as a major economic hub in Austria, can offer a thriving economy and a high standard of living, with many booming industries that can meet the needs of plenty of jobseekers. Austria, a member of the European Union since 1995, is one of the richest countries in the EU and Linz is one of its major economic centers. 5 Living in Linz Linz residents enjoy a good quality of life. The city is a hub for industry and arts projects and events, and there is a high rate of employment. The city offers many local amenities, from cinemas to restaurants, and a wide choice of housing and schools. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and the country s thirdlargest city, with over 200,000 inhabitants. Situated on the Danube, it has a culture mile along the river, which stretches from the Lentos art museum and Brucknerhaus concert hall to the Ars Electronica Center on the northern bank of the river. The city is situated close to the Czech border and is in close proximity to lush countryside and hills. There is a large selection of events and cultural institutions. Among the most well-known are the Ars Electronica Festival and the open-air multimedia event, Klangwolke. The Botanical Gardens are home to approximately 10,000 different species of plants including rare wild plants, cacti and orchids. The 4.2km hectare park also hosts open-air summer concerts. The Linzer Schloss Museum is also located in the old town, with exhibitions about Upper Austria. The terrace of the museum offers wonderful views over Linz. A popular space for locals to relax is the Hauptplatz (main square), with the 20-meter-high Holy Trinity, a baroque column completed in 1723, at its center.
