Between December 1st -11th 2015, Egis was part of the Caisse des Dépôts Sustainable City stand in the Climate Generations Area of the COP21 site at Bourget. The world s largest public and private players were focused on this highly significant meeting, which incorporates a rich programme of events, Egis as an active participant affirmed its climate commitment. With its ability to be innovative, Egis offers concrete solutions to adapt to projects and reduce their environmental impact. Discover Egis s climate actions on 10 Sydney, Australia : Egis awarded contract for operation and maintenance of WestConnex World Sydney Motorway Corporation (SMC) awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of WestConnex to Fulton Hogan Egis O&M Pty Ltd (FHEO&M). Egis, through its Australian subsidiary Egis Projects Asia Pacific, and Fulton Hogan Construction each hold 50% of the shares in FHEO&M. WestConnex is Australia s largest road infrastructure project which is being delivered by SMC, a private corporation, whose shareholders are the Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight and the Treasurer of NSW. WestConnex will significantly reduce travel times for commuters in the Sydney area and deliver more than $AUD20 billion in economic benefits to the state of New South Wales (NSW). WestConnex will be delivered in three stages: Stage 1 (WestConnex M4) includes the widening of existing M4 Motorway as well as a 5.5km tunnel extension. Stage 2 (WestConnex M5) includes a new 9km road tunnel which will more than double capacity of the existing M5 East motorway corridor and provide a new interchange, north of the city s airport. Stage 3 (WestConnex M4-M5 Link) will link stages 1 and 2 via a new road
12 World tunnel, connecting the M4 and M5 corridors. The contract term for stages 1 and 2 is 10 years. Operation and maintenance will start in Furthermore, the contract comprises the operation and maintenance of the existing M5 East Motorway, which had been previously operated and maintained by Egis (as part of the BHEgis joint venture) from 2001 to M5 East is a 10km motorway with 4.5km of tunnels. With the award of this contract, Egis strengthens its presence in tunnel and motorway operation and further demonstrates its position as a leading tunnel operation and maintenance provider in Australia and worldwide, with 80 km of tunnels under contract in 10 different countries. Mongolia: Ulaanbaatar Urban Services and Ger Areas Development Investment Program The program approach aims to initiate a redevelopment process in Ger areas. Egis got the consultant s service contract as Project management support service Improving infrastructure within the Ger area subcenters and connectivity with the city core center is critical for inclusiveness and important to facilitate the movement of people and goods, develop urban corridors, and create clusters of subcenters. Better urban planning combined with a network of infrastructure along priority roads will initiate a structural change of subcenter urban fabric. This will improve residents access to basic urban services, public space, and socioeconomic facilities; support local economic development; allow residents and businesses to take advantage of urban economies; and provide better housing options. The changes in land use and higher urban density will improve water, sanitation, and heating services delivery. 11
13 Egis and R20 sign an historic partnership for sustainable waste management On 5th December 2015, in Paris, an agreement was signed between Egis and R20, a non-governmental, non-profit organisation. The signing took place in the presence of Christophe Nuttall, Executive Director of R20, Terry Tammimen, Strategic Advisor of R20, Pierre-René Lemas, CEO of Caisse des Dépôts, and Nicolas Jachiet, Chairman and CEO of Egis. In parallel with the COP21, this agreement sealed a partnership that focuses on developing Waste to Energy projects in developing countries. Objective: a common fund for waste management The goal of the partnership between Egis and R20 is to create a pre-investment fund specializing in waste management. It entails preparing the different protagonists upstream of sustainable waste management (national and local governments, industry and investors) to take the decisions necessary to implement concrete projects. The pre-investment funds provide Egis and R20 with the means to 12 bring the sustainable waste management market to maturity in emerging and developing countries. To this end, the pre-investment fund will finance two concrete actions essential to market maturity: - A training programme for national officials and local decision-takers on the subject of waste management. The programme will revolve around three areas that are critical to taking decisions: the public policies needed for waste management, the existing technologies on the market today, the economic models and financial mechanisms necessary for the sustainability of a sustainable waste management project. - A feasibility study campaign in the cities deemed mature, in order to identify, develop, and structure projects that are likely to achieve the objectives in the eyes of public and private investors. In the light of the joint experience these two parties have on many waste treatment project opportunities (Algeria, the Maldives, Morocco, China), R20 and Egis share not only the same analyses, visions and goals, but also the same values about the economic opportunities included in waste management: promoting social values, active participation of the population, creation of direct and indirect jobs and safeguarding the environment, particularly through selective sorting, recycling and energy cogeneration. This approach is part of the Caisse des Dépôts long-term commitment to the environment and energy transition.
