Three layers of smartness 1 Embedding sensors and communications technology in infrastructure 2 Capturing, safely storing and making government-acquired data available 3 Communicating information and insights Smart Places use technology - enabled solutions to improve the quality of life for citizens and respond to the problems and opportunities that matter most to people living in or using these places. 1 Embedding sensors and communications technology in infrastructure as it is built or when it is being upgraded or redeveloped to capture information about the use and condition of assets or monitor the state of the environment. 2 3 Capturing, safely storing and making governmentacquired data available to support effective government planning and processes, inform research about community needs and create opportunities for the market to develop and deliver services that meet customer expectations. Communicating information and insights gained through analysing data that will help people and governments to make better, evidence-based decisions about how to improve the productivity, liveability and resilience of cities, towns and communities.

27 THE PROCESS Engage + Define Problem In this phase, the key focus is on clearly understanding the problem area, objectives, outcomes and target customer needs through workshops Test + Trial The most important phase, after the definition, Test + Trial is an intense period of learning, mentorship, stakeholder engagement, user testing and product validation Pilot Ready Teams to be advised of next steps pending Government decision on investment recommendations Engage + Define Problem Call to Market Test + Trial Outputs + Demo Pilot Ready Call to Market This phase focuses on building a website, engaging with the innovation community and putting a call out to the market for applications Outputs + Demo The last phase of Test + Trial is an important period prior to showcase (demo day), the teams are heavily focused on finalising their offer and refining their learnings for the showcase event

28 TEST AND TRIAL (12 WEEK INCUBATION) 12 weeks of demonstrating your capability in a real-world environment in partnership with a local council or Government agency Must be able to demonstrate that:»» your product works»» is market ready»» is aligned with one of the themes and can demonstrate value creation to citizens and solves the problem»» the product and team behind the product is scale ready.

29 SUPPORT DURING THE TEST + TRIAL PERIOD Hands on support from NSW Government and partnering local councils Support to navigate and connect with NSW Government agencies Access to industry expertise Regular meetups to discuss issues, barriers and opportunities Regular 1:1 sessions with local councils and NSW Government to track progress and receive feedback Access to Venture Capital networks NOTE: This process does not constitute a procurement. The NSW, Local and Commonwealth Governments reserve the right to conduct subsequent procurement processes.

30 VENTURE CAPITAL INVOLVEMENT We are calling on the VC community to support this unique opportunity to back start-ups, scale-ups and industry NSW Government will host a series of sessions over the Test + Trial period to connect participants with the VC community NSW Government will also introduce participants to the various funding programs that are offered through Jobs For NSW
