2 All members agreed to have an Honour Board with the past and present Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer s names on the board and for it to be housed at RAAFSFS. The board will be held at RAAFSFS Amberley. Moved: Bob McMaster Seconded: Tom Connolly that the Minutes be a true and accurate record of proceedings. Moved: Des Andrews Seconded: Keith Pearce that the President s Report be tabled. Presidents Report Hello one and all. The past twelve months have passed very quickly and we don t seem to have enough time in a day. Maybe it s got something with getting older. Anyway the Association has increased considerably to 140 members and waiting on another 25 to pay their dues to become members. As we had no Handlers or Dogs last year we are thankful to have Handlers and dogs this year attending ANZAC Day to march with us. I thank them for their efforts. During the year I attended Security and Fire School Amberley with Ray for pass out parades and to speak to different courses about our Association. Ever since we have done this the Association has prospered and hope our new members have benefitted. I must stress that we the committee, are here to help or get answers to questions that is asked of us for assistance. I have also attended War Animal Memorials which is up and running strong for Nigel Allsopp. I congratulate Nigel for his work in getting recognition for all War Animals (birds included). I have come across a couple of members in the Defence Force who are thinking of taking lump payments for injuries that they have received during their service career. May I have advise all concerned not to take payments for injuries and instead take the pension. When you take a lump payment, later on when you decide to apply for a DVA pension you will not receive the full pension payment, as you will contribute some or your pension therefore not receiving the full pension. It has happened to me and I wasn t told about the contributing and now I m not getting my full pension and believe it or not I have paid back the lump payment and more. The problem is that I ll be paying for it until I die. I was going to put this in the DVA section within the association website, but thought I d do it now and I hope others think before taking lump payments. Before closing I take this opportunity to thank Ray for his diligent work as Secretary and as I have stated before he won t slow down, Buzz for keeping the books in order, Jack, Ty and John (Ty s fill in) for all their cooperation throughout the year. Des Andrews President Business arising from the President s report NIL Moved: Herby Emmerson Seconded: Gary Blain that the Presidents Report be accepted. Secretary Report: Moved Ray Thomas Seconded Pedro Routley that the Secretary s Report be tabled. We have had more than 2,600 hits on the RDHA website. I have uploaded many articles, stories and photos in a consistence manner. There has been lots of positive feedback of which I am thankful for. The website has various pages on it including up-to-date RAAF, Navy, Army and Contact newsletters along with RSL and Vet Affairs newspapers. 2

3 If you have any articles, photos, stories or anything you believe we could use on the website then please send them into me and we will see if we can publish them. s have been coming in thick and fast and I endeavour to respond to all of them within a short period of time. In the past twelve (12) months we have increased our membership to 140. This I think is partly due to the on-going visits to RAAFSFS and talking to the Basic, Re-Team and Advance courses that were going through at that time. Last year we obtained a Patron for the RDHA, Cpl Mark Donaldson VC. This year we have obtained a Vice Patron. This person has, in the past was the CO of RAAFSFS and has done a lot of work for the Military Working Dog Handlers at RAAFSFS. He is now a reservist and is working in conjunction with Wing Commander Tony Buffett on the New Security concept for the RAAF. His name is Group Captain Guy Burton CSC ADC. I have also designed a Memorial Plaque for the RDHA. This plaque will be permanently mounted on Australia War Animal Monuments throughout Queensland and hopefully interstate. The Australian War Animal Monuments, have been and are still to be constructed at RSL s and Local Council Community areas. Our next unveiling monument will be on Saturday the 1 st June 2013 at Newtown Historical Park, Toowoomba followed by the unveiling of AWAM on Sunday 23 rd June at the RSL in Innisfail, North Queensland. 6 President: Des Andrews Secretary Ray Thomas Treasurer Kim Hodges Event Coordinator 1 Ty Trost/John Kingston Event Coordinator 2 Jack Willmott Area Representatives: Townsville Toowoomba RAAFSFS Sunshine Coast Gold Coast Amberley Brisbane NSW/Newcastle Canberra South Australia Western Australia Northern Territory Mal Holland Bruce Pobar/Jack Willmott Ty Trost Chris Armanasco Ray Thomas John Baguley Ian Wintle Bob McMaster Phil Essam Kol Kajanto/Kev Couzner Kim Lilly Dave Young General Business: Item 1. Past and New Members: John Butler past away on 23 rd December 2012 GRPCPT Guy Burton CSC,ADC, Vice Patron RAAF Amberley Kev Cavanagh AFP Explosive Detector Dog Handler and ex RAAF Dog Handler. Glen Wallace RAAFSFS Craig Westendorf RAAFSFS Patrick Yeates RAAFSFS Jamie Craig MWDH, Richmond, NSW Mick Dendy NSW Daniel Ricardo MWDH, Edinburgh, SA John Cummings - NSW RDHA Association have now 140 members. Item 2. Laying of wreath at Salisbury RSL The RDHA has been approached to lay a wreath on ANZAC Day this year at the Salisbury RSL, South Australia. After correspondence to the Salisbury RSL and phone calls to SGT Bob Cox, it was decided that the Salisbury RSL purchase a wreath at the expense of the RDHA and have SGT Bob Cox lay the wreath on behalf of the RDHA. Moved: Ray Thomas Seconded: John Baguley that a wreath be laid at the Salisbury RSL by SGT Bob Cox on behalf of the RDHA and the RDHA pay for the wreath purchase by the Salisbury RSL be adopted. CARRIED Item 3. Affiliation with the RAAF Association. The RDHA has been asked to affiliated with the RAAF Association Queensland Division. They are also affiliated with Number 23 Sqn Association, Air Crew Association and the Service Police Association. Briefly there are no major benefits and no major requirements. Really only a method of exchanging information (eg the RAAF Association send Military Super info to all of it s associates) exchange of ideas that may be beneficial to both groups, the ability to say "the RDHA is affiliated with... The requirements are nil, it would be possible for our members who live near their branches to visit and get to know branch members and socialise with them. They have a very good branch at Toowoomba, and that's about it. 6

7 Moved: Ray Thomas Seconded: Gary Blain that the RDHA Affiliate with the RAAF Association be adopted. CARRIED Item 4. Change of venue for ANZAC Day march. Propose that we extend our ANZAC Day march and AGM to other cities apart from Toowoomba. Other cities would be Ipswich, Townsville or Adelaide. The Area Representatives would play a big part in the organisation of the march in the city selected along with accommodation recommendations. After a long discussion it was decided that we rescind the previous decision by the RAAF Police Dog Association back in the late nineties to hold all ANZAC Day marches in Toowoomba and to extend the ANZAC Day marches to other cities to benefit other RDHA members that can t travel to Toowoomba each year. The Management Committee will look into to logistics of marching in other cities other than Toowoomba. If feasible, the ANZAC Day march for 2014 will be held in Ipswich or a substitute city and the ANZAC Day marches will return to Toowoomba on alternative years. Moved: Nev Kleidon Seconded: Steve Ibbotson that the committee look into the possibly of holding the ANZAC Day march in another city be adopted. CARRIED Item 5. Life membership after turning 75 years of age. Life membership after serving five consecutive years on the Management Committee. The discussion also focused on after members obtained Life Membership, there would be no subscriptions forthcoming from those members. This proposal will be put to all members and a decision will be made at the next AGM Moved: Tom Connolly Seconded: Gary Blain that the proposal be put to all members and a decision be made at the next AGM in 2014 be adopted.
