3 THE SOUTHERN INDIA ENGINEERING MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION President s Message Dear Members, Greetings I am happy to present the 65th Annual Report for the year of SIEMA. A lot of various internal and external factors affected the pump industry and it was overall a very challenging year for the economy. The Indian economy is a cash-driven economy and demonetization had largely affected its growth. The GDP growth rate of 7.1% in fell to 6.5% in The MSME sector has recovered from the drastic changes and its impact on revenues, but demonetization forced the MSME sector towards digital arenas. The introduction of Goods and Services Tax on 1st July 2017 was a very significant step in the field of indirect tax reforms in India. By amalgamating a large number of Central and State taxes into a single tax, the aim was to mitigate cascading or double taxation in a major way and pave the way for a common national market. From the consumer point of view, the biggest advantage would be in terms of a reduction in the overall tax burden on goods, which was estimated to be around 25%-30%. The Indian Industry expected that GST would also make Indian products competitive in the domestic and international markets. Based on our direct representation and also with other Associations the GST Committee has reduced the GST rates for Cables, Ball Bearings from 28% to 18%. We conducted more than ten GST awareness sessions with experts from the field for the benefit of our members. The MSME s are worst-hit post GST, with the spiraling raw material prices and severe cash crunch faced by the MSME s. The trend of Raw Material prices going up started in October 2017, and is going on, unabated till now. Due to this Raw Material price hike the pumpset prices revised 5 to 7% respectively by the manufacturers. SIEMA has received National Level GOLD Grade Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) Quality Council of India, New Delhi. This year, we designed a new brochure for SIEMA and the same has been updated periodically. We represented few grievance viz. infrastructure facilities to Coimbatore, GST issues, E Way bills, Invert Duty Structure, Labour issues, Points on MSME & Startup Policy with the Union and State Governments and policy makers. As the President of this Prestigious Association every moment was memorable and I had the opportunity of attending many meeting and meeting VIPs. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for providing me your support throughout the term. Thank you all one again K.K. Rajan President - 1 -
