DID YOU KNOW? In 1967 I saw a white lizard living on the very hot surface of Lake Eyre and called it The Lake Eyre Dragon. The name stuck. It was an amazing little creature. In an experiment run by a University in the 70 s, it was placed in a slow oven, where a steak cooked, but the Lake Eyre Dragon survived, because of its anti-heat ability. Amazing nature!

We spent time in Malaysia looking for Malaysian aboriginals followed the Dyak Head Hunters of Borneo (complete with satellite TV and ghetto blasters). In 1976, I saw the remains of the last two nomads in the Central Deserts of Australia. BUT THERE IS NOWHERE AS UNTOUCHED AS THE TRIBAL PEOPLE OF PNG. For this reason PNG is our favourite adventure destination. It is so close to Australia and so radically different. It is a real adventure, safe and secure. In the photo alongside, the young Anga kids (Kukukuku) bounded up the precipitous mountainside to the smoked bodies of their ancestors. We struggled behind them on hands and knees, in a very difficult climb. The leaders of families were smoked over grass hut fires, painted in ochre and painstakingly placed in sheltered ledges high on the mountain peaks. It is a most awesome and splendidly unique experience - no one else goes there. This will appeal to your sense of adventure! There are only two known smoked body sites but if you are fit, you get the opportunity to see this world-rare tribal cultural history. (Every photo was taken by Dick Lang.
