Travel via the rich wine producing region of the Clare Valley ((wine tasting optional) and through the rich countryside of rural South Australia. Enjoy picturesque scenery, and rural town stops with lunch and morning and afternoon teas. We cross the Goyder Line, view the Elder & Heyson Ranges, Wilpena Pound & Lake Torrens and visit the historic and award winning Prairie Hotel at Parachilna with great outback art before arrival at our overnight stop at Marree. L, D Day 2 In Marree check out the ancient mosque and Ghan railway history, plus Lake Eyre Yacht Club and Marree Museum or just enjoy a real coffee and fresh baked buns at Lyles Oasis Roadhouse. Depending where best wildlife opportunities are on the day we may visit a permanent water hole by Muloorina Station, a favourite spot for birds (including brolgas) and birdwatchers then travel on the Oodnadatta Track to Lake Eyre south viewing area. There is plenty of water coming in here and good revitalizing wild flowers, fish and birds. Follow the Old Ghan Railway Track and visit historic Coward Springs & Curdimurka railway sidings plus the Bubbler Mound Springs a permanent flow of water from the Artesian basin. We now head for Lake Eyre and ABC and Belt Bay shorelines and viewing area. This is the closest shore to current flow of water in the Warburton Groove. 5 4 Day Lake Eyre Tours Flights via Coober Pedy & William Creek Day 3 From William Creek here we take a 2 hour scenic flight over Lake Eyre, viewing the Warburton, Neales and Macumba Rivers, and follow the Warburton Groove, the deep line of flow down the lake. Our flight optimizes sighting bird life and water flows, and best photographic opportunities. After our flight, and a look around William Creek, we head for Coober Pedy via Anna Creek station (bigger than Texas) and rolling sandhills. Visit Coober Pedy s underground museum of opal mining and the Umoona Gallery, check out the opal stores, the town lookout and beautiful underground Serbian Church with its majestic stained glass windows. Witness modern oasis outback stations and transport roadhouses of this great Stuart Highway connecting Australia s north and south. Visit Woomera and the rocket park collection of missiles launched from this unique location, and view the infamous detention centre. Depending where the best bird viewing may be at the time, we usually travel north from Adelaide via picturesque rural SA farmlands including Clare Valley & Melrose, Mt Remarkable, Quorn, Hawker Flinders Ranges, Parachilna, Leigh Creek, Lyndhurst, Farina to Marree for 2 nights. Marree is at the junction of the Birdsville & Oodnadatta Tracks, and was the changeover town for the Standard to Narrow Gauge railway that operated over 100 years, and carried up to 46 trains per week during WWII. Lots of history here where you can check out the ancient mosque and Old Ghan railway history, plus Lake Eyre Yacht Club and Marree Museum or just enjoy a real coffee and fresh baked buns at Lyles Oasis Roadhouse. L, D Day 2 We head for William Creek on the Oodnadatta Track via Anna Creek Station (bigger than Texas) and travel via rolling sandhills that lead to the Simpson Desert.
