2 2 BEE Certificate We are busy getting a BEE certificate; being done at no cost to us. Current finances We have R in the bank. See attached ledgers. We have looked into Newsclip but have not signed up yet, so no cost for this is reflected in the financials. 5 Membership: We currently have 38 EGF members, and five pending ones. Please refer to the attached breakdown at the end of this document. GM queried the trade exchange with Alive 2 Green for membership, because it s brings the integrity of the EGF into question of we simply take on members for what they can give us. We need to create a clear policy to guide TE decision. Trade exchanges have helped us tremendously by giving us something of value at no cost to us, and which we would have otherwise struggled to afford: Sandton Sun Hotel venue for all meetings valued at over R Specialized Exhibitions stand at Markex valued at over R Alive 2 Green stand at Sustainability Week valued at over R Alive 2 Green does have green events and is doing green things, even if not everything is 100% green, not all our members are certified and are 100% green. Alive 2 Green will go through the normal membership process. Hotel Verde is a new hotel in Cape Town that will open latest this year. It has claimed to be the greenest hotel in SA. GS visited and was very impressed. They have now enquired about membership and we would like to do a site visit once they are on board. GM to draft 6 Training and education Aligning our training with standards The sub-committee on training has not yet had a chance to meet to discuss this. The next meeting is scheduled for 05 August, 11am at SAACI offices. JL, GM, HB, GS & LJ are on this committee. GM will feedback on the outcomes at our next meeting. Organic Waste workshop feedback Someone who attended the training fed back to GM that the content was domestic focused and it was not quite applicable to the scale and needs of a venue. JL, GM, HB, GS & LJ

3 3 A suggestion was made that we should perhaps look at doing a workshop /seminar on waste management in general, within which we refer to the different types of waste output and including organic waste. EGF Training workshops HB has submitted a brand support document, to ensure we have clear guidelines when marketing the EGF. IT was also suggested the EGF brand needs to be stronger at the training workshops: display EGF pull up banner, have EGF logo on presentation slides, and have a one page brochure that people can take away with them, with information on membership. PE training take up has been very slow. Most people attending the SAACI conference do not want to be out of the office any longer. It was suggested we cancel the training, and the EGF will cover these costs for GS. CPD Points Agreed to move the discussion about CPD points to another meeting between HB and GM, who would then feedback to PW. LM &PW PW GS &PW HB & GM 7 Marketing & Events Brand support discussed above Greenwashing GM raised a concern about the EGF remaining silent when there is greenwashing in the industry. Protea Hotel is promoting their Green Events which is where each delegate to a conference has a tree planted on their behalf. They do not seem to understand was a green event is. GM to send JH the contact details for Danny Briar, and JH to follow up with a phone call. Upcoming events The Durban Green Business Breakfast is happening on 24 July. GS will speak on the EGF, EGF member Shades of Green will talk on hosting a green event in Durban, and Eco Chef will talk about sustainable catering for the events industry. The site visit with PETCO has fallen through, but it was suggested we have a Waste Management workshop with various speakers talking on different types of event waste and how to handle them plastic, paper, tin, glass and organic waste. This could tie in with the Green Expo or National Recycling Week. We need to start planning for the conference next year too. GM &JH LM &PW

4 4 8 Feedback from Southern Team: Refer to GS s notes sent through. JH will attempt to be at the next Southern Team meeting to link in. A Greener Festival proposal was discussed, and it was felt it was not fully aligned with the EGF focus on business events and there is a small market for festivals in SA. JH to talk to GS. JH JH 9 General / Any other business: PN explained the role of the JTC as reporting directly to the city mayor and the mayor s office. They also have a Convention Bureau for all large conferences, and work closely with the SA and Gauteng Convention Bureaus. PN to meet with AN and JH to see how we can work together going forwards. AN, JH and PW met with the Department of Tourism. It was a good meeting PW to send feedback on it to the committee. AN, JH and PW also met with the Department of Environmental Affairs, but were not speaking to the right person so now need to follow up with the right person. PW, SG and Nigel Walker from EXSA met with Eco Standard to find out more about the certification they are developing that could be useful for temporary building structures (such as exhibitions). Heritage also has a product certification label called Eco Choice. JH thanked LM for her involvement and support with the EGF.
