5 Friday, 7 December :00 18:00 OPTIONAL SITE VISITS (see below agenda) The following three tours are being organised with a maximum participation of 30 persons. Attending these tours will allow participants to see aviation research in action. Participants will be asked to select which of the three tours they would like to attend upon registering for the event. Registration will be done on a first come first serve basis, please register at TOUR 1: Salzburg Area (Salzburg University, Salzburg, Austrian Airforce) TOUR 2: Vienna (Frequentis, University of Vienna) TOUR 3: Vienna (Austrian Airlines, Austrocontrol)
6 TOUR 1: Salzburg Area 8:30 10:30 University of Salzburg Research Centre The "Aviation Competence Center Salzburg (ACCS)" focuses on analysis and performance evaluation of existing / future aeronautical communication systems (e.g. VDL Mode 2, SatCom, etc.) and new SESAR/NextGen concepts (4D trajectory based operations, CDM, etc.) based on detailed simulation of European (or even world wide) air traffic and future data communication applications / services (up to the year 2040 using STATFOR long term forecasts). During your visit, you will be able to see some complex simulations and in addition (some interested participants) will also have the possibility to experience flying as "Pilot in Command (PIC)" in our original Diamond DA 42 simulator (withoriginalgarmin G1000 instruments). 30 minute transfer 11:00 12:30 Austro Control/Salzburg Airport Tower You will be able to visit the ATC tower at Salzburg Airport. This tower went operational just a few years ago and features state of the art technology. Controllers will explain the challenges of air traffic management in an alpine region. 12:30 13:30 Lunch at Salzburg airport 15 minute transfer 13:45 15:30 Air Surveillance Command of the Austrian Air Forces The visit to the Air Surveillance Command of the Austrian Air Forces will be split into two parts: In the first Part 1 (30 minutes) "Air Surveillance a continuous task for Austrian security" you will receive an overview on: Structure of the Austrian Air Surveillance as fusion point between engineering, data processing and operations Air Surveillance as contribution to security 24/7, Densification of the fixed system by mobile radar systems and significant previous operations. In the second Part 2 (60 minutes) of your visit: "Redundancy and deployability in Air Surveillance," you will be offered the opportunity to visit the systems of the Radar Battalion and receive a briefing on deployable systems concerning mobile radar systems, deployable ARS and radiocommunication. 15:30 END (bus to return to airport (16:00) & city centre (16:15))
7 TOUR 2: Vienna 7:00 Depart Salzburg by bus 3,5 hour transfer 10:30 12:00 Frequentis During your visit to Frequentis you will not only have the chance to learn interesting facts about the company and its history but you will also experience a demonstration of the Frequentis Remote Tower, as well as state of the art Drone & UTM technologies. In addition, the Frequentis SWIM (System Wide Information Management) solution will be presented. Your visit to Frequentis will be rounded off by a tour through our integration hall and a light lunch. 12:00 13:00 Lunch 30 minute transfer 13:30 15:00 TU Wien Vienna University of Technology On this tour, visitors will have an opportunity to go behind the scenes of TU Wien s division for machine design and transmissions for aviation. Established ten years ago, the division offers teaching courses that combine theory with hands on experience of test runs conducted inside a laboratory to EASA certification specifications. The division also carries out research projects and has designed, developed and tested several drive trains for CS 29 helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. Other projects include the research and development of transmissions for new rotorcraft concepts (i.e. Airbus RACER and Leonardo Next Generation Civil Tiltrotor). Transfer to Vienna airport (15:30 arrival expected)** ** Please be aware that no return travel to Salzburg is foreseen. Participation in this tour is intended for those who have return flights from Vienna airport.

Head of Technical Operations Michael Kaye and his team will show you around our hangars, our wheels and brakes workshop, the engine warehouse and will be available to answer any question you may have regarding MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul). Discover what aspects of our maintenance processes are automated, and how our technicians approach the various tasks encountered in their day to day operations. Find out why airplane tyres rarely blow out and how we keep track of the innumerable individual brake components lined up for service. The tour will also lead you to the engine room where you can view our Pratt & Whitney, GE and Rolls Royce engines, and gain a glimpse into jet engine overhaul as well as the maintenance control center, which coordinates fleet management and monitors the service status of our aircraft on the ground and in flight.
