Chair Danny O Brien introduced Peter Ryan to the joint meeting of R.C. Sale and R.C. Sale Central. Peter has a long history with Rotary locally both as a past member and long-time supporter.

After winning back government in coalition with the Liberals in 2010, he served as Minister for State Development and Regional Development.

2 Chair Danny O Brien introduced Peter Ryan to the joint meeting of R.C. Sale and R.C. Sale Central. Peter has a long history with Rotary locally both as a past member and long-time supporter. Peter who is Deputy Premier and leader of the Nationals was elected in 1992 and became leader of the Nationals in He is the longest serving current leader of a political party in Australia. After winning back government in coalition with the Liberals in 2010, he served as Minister for State Development and Regional Development. Peter referred to our grand final in 33 days referring to the upcoming State elections and remarked on how lucky we are to live in a country where there can be a robust exchange of ideas without fear or offence and that we need to maintain and cherish this fragile democracy. Peter recalled the time of reformation of the coalition with Ted Baillieu in 2008 where special arrangements had to be made for photo opportunities because of the differences in height with Ted at 6 foot 7 and Peter a Collingwood 6 footer. Peter talked at length about his idea that the secret to the strength of Gippsland is its diversity and that we need to concentrate on how we can get the very best out of our assets. Coal and tight gas were two contentious issues which generated some penetrating questions as was the issues around TAFE funding and restructure which is still far from resolved and will be a hot topic locally in the coming election. Peter finished by again referring to the value and fragility of our democracy and hoped that it may long remain so. President David thanked Peter and referred to the great quality of life that we enjoy compared to many other countries. Bill Jennings, PHF Rod Exton and Bette Langley enjoy the evening

5 Member Snapshot Name: David Tulloch. Spouse: UK-born Judy. Why I joined Rotary: Progression from age-limited Apex. Inducted Sale Rotary as Additional Active (now defunct joining pipeline). My early days growing up: At Coomealla, far south-west NSW. (sand hills and saltbush environ rich in beauty but only if you grew up there!). My fondest memories of school: In Wentworth Gaol! Don t hasten to conclusion! yes, schooling really was behind bars, through dire education infrastructure shortage in the far-west. My first roles in the work force: Employed in parent s two grocery shops, bulk fuel depot and news agency (Coomealla and Wentworth) sprinkling sawdust and kerosene on grocery shop floorboards before opening, home-delivering groceries by basket-bicycle, promoted to bulk fuel trucking to outback. Most interesting places I have lived/visited: Two days after marriage, we sailed on MV Aurelia for Genoa, Italy. Lived Derby, UK, employed at Derby Evening Telegraph (pronounced DARby, please, not DERby!), Derby being Judy s and our eldest son s birthplace. Have visited a few countries - French Somaliland, South Yemen, Dutch West Indies, Orkney Islands, Trinidad, Isle of Man, Pacific Islands, (sailed both canals, Suez and Panama), among some 44. Why I came to Gippsland: Returning from UK, assigned by company which had purchased four Gippsland newspapers, to Sale. My career in work force: Last 25 years (until retirement) general manager Southern Newspapers Pty. Ltd. Community involvement: Six years Honorary Probation officer, 12 years Trustee Anglican Diocese of Gippsland, six years Director, Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd., (Life Member), committee Sale Agricultural Society (ex-president, Life Member), member Victorian State Disaster Plan (DISPLAN) committee, chair Gippsland International Wetlands Project, authored first history book on Wentworth at age 18 (book continues in print 60 years on), and various community committees.oh, yes, Rotary for, often reflect, perhaps too many years. Recreation interests: Family first, Briagolong farm, equine involvement including restoring (and harnessing up and driving) vintage horse-drawn vehicles.

10 Gate locations Dawson St. gate is located between the carrot cake & poultry pavilions McGhee St gate is located at the cnr. of McGhee and Dawson St Cattle gate is the entrance to the Greyhound complex on the Sale/Maffra road Pedestrian gate is next to the main gate on the Sale/Maffra road GATEKEEPERS INSTRUCTIONS 2014 EVERYBODY PAYS FOR ENTRY UNLESS THEY HAVE A VALID TICKET. See ticket board for examples of valid tickets. Trade pass wrist bands must be worn to be valid. PATRONS WITH PREPAID SHOW TICKETS OR COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS must have ticket clipped on Friday by gatekeepers and on Saturday ticket is to be retained by gatekeepers. These actions ensure that the tickets are used only once each day. Tear off portion of show ticket admits one adult only. Ticket complete admits two adults and four children under 15. If two adults present then both portions of ticket are clipped. ADMIT ONE TICKETS are used to facilitate entry control at McGhee St. and the pedestrian gate when required. GREYHOUND CLUB PATRONS are to be directed to enter via the gate in Dawson St next to the railway line; otherwise they pay to enter like everyone else. SHOW TICKETS are to be sold, after clipping, on Friday only. Families may enter at show ticket rate on Saturday but no show ticket is to be issued. All tickets presented on Saturday are to be retained by gatekeepers. PENSIONER means age, service or disability pensioners only. PASSOUTS may be given by a stamp to the back of the hand at any time both days. PROBLEMS OR DISPUTES should be referred to the gate supervisors Keith Miller (by radio or telephone ) and Neil Brewer when he visits your ticket box. Failing that the secretary can be contacted on The pre-set radio channel is for gatekeepers only and should be monitored at all times, not just for disputes and instructions but also for help with safety and emergency issues that may arise. SECURITY PERSONNEL will be on duty at each gate from about 5pm on Friday to assist with crowd control and to check bags for alcohol, so work with them as a team.
