3 Welcome Letter Dear New Employee, Welcome to Tulsa Tower/TRACON! We are a level 8 combined tower and radar facility that works an interesting combination of air carrier, military, and general aviation aircraft. We will strive to provide you with an opportunity to learn air traffic skills in an environment that is supportive and interested in your development. When you arrive here you will receive an FAA identification card and access to the facility electronic gates and doors. Your first three weeks will be spent learning local airspace, procedures, and basic information necessary to begin training on Clearance Delivery and Ground Control. TRACON training normally starts after you certify through the tower cab, but begins with formal basic radar training at the FAA Academy. Throughout your training you will work with experienced air traffic controllers. Among these individuals will be your primary and secondary trainers. The training program is challenging and will require your full attention but you will not be alone in this endeavor. You will have a supervisor, at least two instructors, the facility staff and managers who are interested in your success. We are also interested in hearing from you about your training, so please share your thoughts with us. We are committed to making your time with us productive as well as satisfying. 4 Tulsa Tower Today TUL Tower was completed in 1959 and was updated in The tower is located on the north side of Tulsa International Airport and is approximately 5 miles northeast of downtown Tulsa. Tulsa ATCT is currently a level 9 Tower/TRACON. There are several flight schools in the area which generate much of our radar traffic. The airport also has an Air National Guard unit and a substantial number of fixed base operator s. The Tulsa Aerospace Museum is close by. TUL has its own airspace and separates IFR and VFR aircraft. The tower mainly uses parallel runway configurations but has an available east/west runway. TUL is home to 49 employees. There are currently 38 controllers, 5 Front Line Managers, 1 Operations Manager, 1 Support Manager, 2 Support Specialists, a secretary, and an Air Traffic Manager Tulsa Tower Directory Administrative office Fax Manager

7 Policies Reporting for Duty On your first day of duty you will need to arrive by 8:00am. To gain access to the parking lot you will need to use the keypad at the gate. Hours of Duty Initially, developmental controllers will generally work Monday through Friday. After completing classroom training, developmental controllers are placed on shift to facilitate On-the-Job Training. The facility operates 24 hours per day. Security As soon as possible after arrival, you will be issued a FAA ID card and proximity card. You can use the proximity card to gain access to the gate, front door, and internal security doors. FAA ID Cards Once you have your FAA ID card, you must wear it at all times while in the facility. Guests and Visitors Guest, visitors, or tours must be approved by the Air Traffic Manager. Family members are pre-approved. All visitors must be signed in, given a visitor badge, and be escorted. Cell Phones All cell phone and PDAs must be completely turned OFF prior to entering the tower cab. The use of cell phones while in classroom training should be kept to a minimum. 7

Tulsa is a flourishing metropolitan area that still retains the friendliness and close-knit attitude of a much smaller city.
