1. Who is EUROPE BY TRAIN? Europe By Train is a GSA company based in Sandton, Johannesburg Gauteng. We offer you expert knowledge and service on travelling by train throughout Europe, Britain, USA, Canada and other countries. Best Service we book and issue tickets for your convenience at our offices. Our Commitment Providing top quality products and excellent service. Experience Across the Board we specialize in travel by train; we have the know-how to create the perfect travel experience. 2. Benefits of Rail Travel CONVENIENT AFFORDABLE COMFORTABLE PUNCTUAL Speed and Practicality Scenery Pleasant Experience 3. The Greener Option High-speed rail travel produces up to 90% less CO2 emissions than similar modes of transport. Travel makes up 27% of greenhouse gas emissions in the European Community, of which CO2 accounts for 96%. By choosing rail you contribute to keeping those emissions to a minimum. For instance, a Eurostar journey from London to Paris emits 11.2kg of CO2, compared with 68.9kg for a plane journey between London and Paris. Many high-speed trains are powered by electricity, so they don t emit carbon. Their carbon footprint is dependent on how they

generate that electrical power. Swiss Railways have virtually no emissions as their electricity is generated by hydroelectric power. All Eurostar journeys are carbon-neutral at no extra cost to the traveler, thanks to offsetting. Deutsche Bahn buys only renewable energy from local sources. 4. What does EURAIL mean? The Euro-rail (informally known as Eurail) is a Netherlands-based company, registered in Luxembourg, which sells passes and tickets for European railroads. They sell a variety of rail product, from point-to-point fares, to various passes. 5. What is a pass? A rail pass is a special ticket that gives you unlimited train travel on the national rail network of one or more of the countries, so you can travel around freely and explore. No need to wait at check-ins or buy different tickets for every trip. Take as many trains as you like and stop anywhere, anytime. Seat reservations may be required on selected routes. 'Unlimited' means without limit. You can take one train or fifty trains, travel 10 KM or 800 KM a day, for the same fixed rail pass price. You can choose which countries to visit and how long you want to travel. A 'rail pass' is different from an ordinary point-to-point ticket. A point-to-point ticket allows you to make just one specific journey from A to B. Point to point tickets vary in price, long journeys cost more than short journeys, booking in advance is often cheaper than buying on the day, and fares in ex. Switzerland is more expensive than fares in ex. Bulgaria. So if all you want to do is make one simple journey from A to B, a point-to-point ticket is probably what you need. But if you want to travel around extensively making multiple journeys and travelling flexibly, a rail pass may be what you need. (Travelling over more then 3 sectors, a pass may be better option). Passes cover all main line trains (i.e. not the metros and undergrounds) on the rail map all the green and purple lines you can use. A pass offers additional benefits or BONUSES, such as ferry crossings between various Eurail countries, discounts on hotels, museums and additional transport. Valid for 11 months AFTER DATE OF ISSUE. A wide variety of passes available and VARIOUS DISCOUNTS; please note there are NO GROUP RATES ON PASSES. Eurail Global Pass; Eurail Select Pass; Eurail Regional Pass; Eurail One Country Pass. Saver pass is for 2 5 passengers travelling together at all times discount depends on type of pass. ONLY 1 TICKET issued with all names on it. Passes cannot be sold to Nationals of Europe and/or Britain and must be bought before leaving South Africa. A pass DOES NOT guarantee a seat on a train unless you reserve it in advance. Seat reservation guarantees a physical seat/couchette/sleeper onboard a train. Most of High Speed, Panoramic and Night trains require a COMPULSORY reservation. We remind you that

a seat reservation IS NOT always included in the total price. (ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WRITTEN QUOTE). We cannot specify forward facing as the train has 2 engines and can change direction. 6. Types of Passes Eurail Global Pass Visit 28 countries throughout Europe, and see them in any order you like. Adults only 1 st class. Only Youths in 1 st or 2 nd class (27 or younger on their first day of travel). No Senior rates. Children under the age of 12 years travel free with a paying adult (reservations are still required). Children under the age of 4 years travelling in Spain still require a ticket. 2 Global Pass options: CONSECUTIVE DAYS: 15 or 22 days and 1, 2 or 3 Months FLEXI-PASS: 5 or 7 days in 1 month and/or 10 or 15 days within 2 months. What is the Flexi Pass? The Global Flexi Pass lets you travel for 5 or 7 days within 1 month and/or 10 or 15 days within 2 months of your choice. Your travel days can be consecutive or non-consecutive, and you fill in the dates yourself for ultimate flexibility. These Passes will have a calendar printed on the Pass and the traveler has to fill in his or her travel dates on this calendar. This has to be done before boarding a train (or ship). The calendar box has to be filled in in sequential order for each travel day and it must be done in blue/ black ink or with a blue/black ballpoint pen. What is a travel day? A travel day is from midnight to midnight, in which you can take as many trains as you wish. Travel cannot begin before 00h01 on the first day of the overall validity of the pass

When traveling on a direct night train that departs after 7 p.m. (19:00) and arrives at its final stop after 4 a.m. (04:00), you only need to enter the arrival date in the travel calendar, even if you leave the train before 4 a.m. This way you get 5 hours of travel for free. This is known as the 7 p.m. rule. Which trains can I use? The Global Pass is valid on trains operated by the national railways of the 28- countries covered by the Global Pass. Most trains require seat reservation. Does it matter in which country I start? No, you can start your trip in any of the 28 countries. You may even travel back and forth between countries. Can I travel through countries where my pass isn't valid? No, you are not allowed to travel through a country other than the 28 countries listed above. If you want to travel in a country that is not covered, you will need to buy a separate ticket that covers that part of the journey. The day you validate the pass is when it becomes active. Eurail Select Pass (i.e. you can select the countries you want to travel in) Travel in 2, 3 or 4 adjoining European countries of your choice. The Eurail Select Pass gives you the most freedom and flexibility to plan your trip, and also comes with the most options. Want to see more than five countries or have more travel flexibility? If you do so, you will need to buy a separate ticket that covers the portion of your journey through that country. Trains between Germany and Sweden often go through Denmark. If your pass is not valid there, you should buy a separate ticket for the part in Denmark. When Greece AND Italy are chosen. This can be done by an agent, when issuing a Pass, but will generally be done after arrival in Europe. This is referred to as validating a Pass or activating a pass. When the first trip originates in a non-eurail country, the Pass may be validated on the train (by a ticket inspector of the country where the Pass is valid). * Example on next page 11. If the traveller has made a reservation, he has to check the car number and seat number printed on the ticket. On the platform, railway employees can show you where your car will stop. Glass-enclosed cases on platforms at some stations called Composition of Trains show long-distance and overnight trains, car-by-car. There you can see exactly where your car will stop on the platform. The traveller should be ready to board the train the minute it arrives; station stops are often very short unless boarding is done at the beginning of the train s route. Numbers posted near the train s door or on a window show if the car is 1st or 2nd class; some trains have both classes in one car. Destination placard and car numbers are placed near the door. Trains can be split and sent in different directions. Advise your client to be sure the car he is on goes where he wants to go. Once the car is found, finding the right seat is easy. If a seat is reserved in a compartment, a sign on or next to the compartment door showing the seat s number must match the seat number on the ticket. For open-car seating, seat numbers are on the headrest. Travellers have to be prepared to vacate a reserved seat that does not belong to them when the rightful seat-holder arrives. 23. Unused Tickets or Refunds? If a client does not use the ticket saying he did not travel. We require as much proof as possible to valid the refund application. Some of the tickets are total non-refundable and non-exchangeable, which means no refunds or changes are permitted. e.g. We need a copy of a cancelled flight ticket, letter from the client or travel agency saying why he did not use the rail ticket, a copy of the new ticket purchased (if they did purchase a new one instead of using the original issued ticket). A refund or exchange of Eurail Passes is only possible: Within 1 year after the purchase of your Eurail Pass (the issue date printed on the Pass). If your Eurail Pass is unused and invalidated. A partially used Pass is not refundable! Promotional passes are non-refundable, non-exchangeable once issued. Please note that refunds can take up to 8 months as we send the tickets to our suppliers overseas, they in turn send it to the railway company. Once the Railway Company has completed their investigation, the refund works it s way back to us.

TRAVEL TIPS: What to Consider when Planning your Clients Trip Determine how long their visit overseas will be. Put together an itinerary of the countries they plan to visit and in what order. Consider flexibility and length of the trip some passes require a certain number of consecutive days of travel, while others offer more flexibility. How many people are travelling 2 or more people can qualify for discounts. Ages of the clients for age related discounts adults travel in first class, Youth (12-27) travel in second class at a discount, Senior Citizens qualify for discounts. The countries, which the passenger chooses to travel through, must also reflect on the pass. Overnight trains not only save you money on accommodation, but also get you to your destination early the next day, giving you a full day of sightseeing. Advise your clients to board overnight trains after 7:00pm to conserve money and valuable travel days. Only the day of your arrival will be counted on your rail pass, therefore you save a day of travel. Additionally, sleeper and couchette supplements cost less than a hotel room. Reservations are required for all sleeping accommodations on all overnight trains. Reservations are also required for high-speed trains as specified above. 26.
