1 E-Newsletter Issue 4/October - December 2012 Handling with CARE Customer Attentive Responsive Efficient Dear Aviation Colleagues and Friends, Greetings from MD Our newsletter this month covers many topics that I hope will be instructive and interesting for you. Aside from the comments from Bob and Colin we have included a brief overview of the in-house IT systems developed by K. Crispin and his Team to support BFS operations. These systems are extensive and cover all of our operational and HR requirements in real-time. If you or your Team would like to see some demonstrations of the capability of our systems then please contact your relevant Customer Care Manager to arrange this. Our systems have been tailored specifically for BFS and are among the best ERP systems available for ground handling companies. By investing in the development of these in-house products we can maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of equipment and resources to achieve very high levels of service delivery and also to enhance productivity to keep our costs down. All of our systems run in real time so allow us to report accurately on our KPI s at any time of day. We are glad to welcome Cambodia Angkor Air and U Airlines as our newest customers, both airlines have significant growth plans for the coming year. Many of our existing customers are also planning on significant growth during 2013 and overall the aviation industry in Thailand seems to be enjoying strong growth both in terms of passengers and cargo long may it continue! We also cover our latest CSR activities that are initiated by our Social Committee headed by K. Took. The Committee is represented by staff from each of our main departments who represent the staff in their respective departments to look at areas where BFS and our Team can give back to the local communities. We are also getting closer to the Annual Gala Dinner organized by BFS Cargo in February. As you are probably aware over the last two years we have been fortunate to raise significant amounts of money from the air cargo community in Thailand to support the Foundation for Slum Care Children. Based on the money we have raised the Foundation has been able to buy a plot of land on which to build a new day care center for the children. The plans for the day care center have just been completed and we hope to break ground on the building early in We will be providing more details on this exciting project over the coming months in the BFS Cargo Newsletter and I will also update you in next quarter s BFS newsletter. For those of you that receive the BFS Cargo Newsletter you will already be aware of the upgrade to the BFS Cargo Terminal but for those of you that are unaware we briefly cover the upgrade in this newsletter which will result in an increase in throughput capacity by approximately 25% or 100,000 tons per annum. The final two stories in this month s newsletter cover the award of a Ramp Safety Award to BFS, PG, BAC and BAFS for an incident that happened in BKK and also a brief round-up of our Customer Party last night (19 Dec 12) at Koh Lanta! On behalf of everyone in the BFS Team I would like to thank you for your continued friendship and support. We would like to wish you, your Team and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous year of the water snake! 2 Greetings from Director Service Delivery Ramp Operations and Maintenance Dear Aviation Colleagues and Friends, Mr. Colin Temple The team from Ramp Operations and Maintenance would like to take this opportunity to wish all our valued customers, friends and colleagues a very happy festive season and a prosperous new year. As we move forward into 2103 we are continuing to evolve. Changes within our sorting and GSE operations departments will see more control over carts, dollies and ULDs, along with improvements to cargo towing services. Reorganisation of my management team will be completed for the new year and I am confident we will be able to meet the challenges ahead. Our Customer Relations team is now complete and I am pleased to welcome Khun Tess (Sasithon Ruktapurana) to join Khun Yaa in taking care of our customers needs. They can be reached by at CRM@BFSAsia.com New equipment has been added to our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) fleet during December with two more lower deck loaders and two transporters being delivered from TLD factories in Canada. We are looking to add more passenger steps, buses, vans, ground power units, carts and dollies during As Khun Bob mentions in his article we have entered the peak season for Russian charter movements. We have set up a liaison service for our charter customers to assist with communication and coordination of slots and permissions. Europe is forecast to have a very cold winter this year, and the snow has started early again. Delays to flights caused by weather at departure stations will be sure to add some more pressure to our operation over the coming months. Growth in regional and domestic flights continues, and with new entrants to the market the number of bulk loaded aircraft we are handling is continuing to increase. Maintaining manpower levels will continue to be a challenge to our recruitment and training departments. Whatever challenges 2013 may deliver, will continue to look for ways to improve our efficiency and enhance our procedures. Safety will remain our first priority. Colin Temple Director, Ramp Operations and Maintenance BFS Newsletter Issue 4 October December 2012 Page 2

3 Dear Aviation Colleagues and Friends, Greetings from Director Passenger Services and Sales Mr. Robert Ruez We have now entered the peak season and that means the arrival of our many Russian charter airline customers. It also means an increase in load factors for many of our schedule customer airlines, thus more passengers to check-in, more wheelchairs to provide, more lost baggage on arrival, more missing passengers at departure time, more bags to load, more on time departures and so forth. Getting ready for the peak is always quite a challenge as it is also a time of year when airlines change their schedules, so once we get the final schedules, there is a lot of planning to increase staff numbers and juggle staff rosters and deployment in order to adjust to the many changes. More on the Russian Charters. BFS handles 5 Russian charter airlines which will account for over 900 flights during the peak season and more than 220,000 passengers arriving and departing. The aircraft types used are usually B777, B767 and B757 and they are all operating with over 95% load factors. The Russian tourism to Thailand has increased hugely, year after year, especially in the last 4 years. These charters operating directly from Siberia to Bangkok have provided the Russian tourists with a direct link to Bangkok and Phuket, Thailand from such cities as Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk and many more destinations. These direct flights have greatly reduced the travel time from Siberia to BKK, whereby it is no longer necessary to go via Moscow or Vladivostok. I guess that when you know that the temperature is below zero degrees for more than 6 months a year, many Russian tourist will need and dream of the guaranteed sunshine and hospitality of Thailand. We also have regional growth from Cambodia and a new airline Cambodia-Angkor Air with daily flights to Siem-Reap and soon they will have an additional destination. Also Cebu Pacific is now flying again non-stop between Bangkok and Cebu. So now 3 options with BKK- Manila, BKK- Clark AFB, and BKK- Cebu. IndiGo will soon start a new destination from BKK bringing daily frequencies to 4 flights In order to ensure that we continue to provide our best services, as the number of flights and passengers increase, our Passenger services department will increase the manpower to reach and maintain 950 staffs. Well that will keep us busy for a while. I know that many of us will be enjoying a few extra days off as the holiday season approaches. It is well deserved and an opportunity to enjoy the cooler season in Thailand with family and friends. On this note I would like to thank you all for your cherished support and cooperation in 2012, as we look forward to good health, and an enjoyable and rewarding Robert Ruesz Director Passenger Services and Sales BFS Newsletter Issue 4 October December 2012 Page 3
