2 NEXTT vision improve and streamline the customer experience through the airport and beyond By means of coordinating the adoption of technology systems and technological innovations Joint venture initiative Jointly with ACI our focus on New Experience Travel Technologies stems from concerns about whether the current approach to airport and on-ground infrastructure can keep pace with industry growth for passengers and cargo. The NEXTT vision identifies technology, advanced processes and a digital transformation within a forward-looking aligned strategy. It s the combination of numerous underlying projects, such as One ID, NDC, end to end Baggage, which are developing the specific concepts. With this integrated common perspective, we aim to helps airlines, airports and governments who need to invest in capacity improvements to meet growing demand by guiding them to implement technology applications and processes which we believe are the best fit and are globally compatible this shall avoid bespoke, inefficient infrastructure which would result in unnecessarily high user charges, more slot constrained airports and limit industry growth. 2

3 So how do we see the customer experience in future let s start by considering passengers 2

4 NEXTT passenger vision: to build a journey that is seamless, secure and efficient It s not just a question of ensuring that all those who need and wish to travel can do so at the core of the passenger vision is creating a seamless end to end journey that exceeds passenger expectations by providing personalization and control. Of course we need to provide this while we continually improve security and process efficiency. Inherent in the passenger vision is greater integration between the commercial aspects i.e. the placing of an order and the operational processes e.g. verification of identity and real-time passenger communications. In offering passengers more choice and control of their journey in a dynamic manner, we must have the means to account not just that a service was requested but deliver it and track that this happened. This blurs the lines between operational and commercial data. And to exploit the full potential of our projects such as One ID, Travel Communications, NDC and One Order, we recognize the need to ensure commonality in the nomenclature and the actual data that is relied on for both an operational and commercial purpose. 3

5 For example, a storm is heading towards your departure airport and your airline needs to rebook you on a different flight. Automatically, all the associated onward travel arrangements that were part of your order such as a pre-booked taxi on arrival shall be adjusted. Both your commercial account and the operational process must be aligned to place that order with a link to your identity so it can be seamlessly delivered to you without need for tickets, boarding cards or other forms of service confirmation. Included in this example, I m sure you can appreciate the importance of automatically adjusting, as needed, and confirming with you what will happen to your baggage 3

6 To NEXTT build baggage a journey that is seamless, secure vision: and efficient freedom for baggage to create a hassle free passenger journey And our vision for baggage enables just that. Linked to a passenger s order, baggage needs its own permanently unique bag ID which can be tracked. So your bag will correctly make it your arrival hotel as you had ordered. We are keeping in mind that solutions developed for passenger identity may be transferable and useful for baggage identity. So your bag could have a kind of biometric identity too. Passengers will be reassured about where their belongs are. This will have a profound impact on passenger behavior and the uptake of emerging baggage service offerings such as home collection and delivery. So then you may start to wonder what makes baggage, baggage rather than cargo? 4

7 NEXTT cargo vision: make air cargo easier, smarter and faster Indeed, incorporating all aspects that impact airport infrastructure into our NEXTT, we are considering the similarities and differences across the areas of operation. There are many similarities between our cargo, passenger and baggage projects; moving cargo requires identity management for each shipment with real-time information smartly shared across the supply chain so it can move faster and more easily through airport processes. And perhaps as cargo processing times decrease and baggage is free to travel separately from you, we may find more of our baggage following processes that are akin to cargo handling rather than moving through existing systems within passenger terminals. Defining the vision for cargo alongside our passenger vision ensures that infrastructure requirements are interoperable, where they need to be. 5

8 NEXTT aircraft turnaround vision: predictable, safe and fully coordinated aircraft turnaround processes every time Convergence of passenger, baggage and cargo operations occurs at the aircraft. We seek to synchronize ground handling operations with the aircraft s needs. This implies shared information from all operational data from all operational areas. Our Aviation Industry Data Model and open API projects builds a common basis for this. One aspect that the holistic perspective of NEXTT has cast a spotlight on is the great developments at a number of airports to enhance their operational planning. This typically involves removing the distinction between forecasting and on the day operational plans. The forecast just becomes the plan as predicted data is updated with actual data. This mean the range of information included in a forecast is expanding. The systems used include a level of artificial intelligence which will improve and increase in time. Solutions at the moment are demonstrating a benefit but are bespoke. For global scalability, airlines will require some commonality in how they feed input into these planning and operational tools. 6

9 NEXTT does combine a broad array of activities. We ve found that developments across all areas of operation fall into 3 emerging themes as this short video identifies 7

For the cargo sector, adoption of existing technologies developed by the logistics sector, and mimicry of the data systems deployed in the passenger sector would create a step-change in performance, For passenger and baggage systems, it is proposed that the regulatory, security, and governmental policy of regions with the greatest traffic share (e.g USA, EU, China) will be the decisive factor for the sectors digital transformation as opposed to technological readiness. 8
