The dunes of the Nmib Desert were creted by snd crried by the wind from the cost of Nmibi. The snd here is over five million yers old nd is red in colour due to its iron-oxide content. As the light chnges during the dy so does the ppernce of the dunes chrcteristic colour llowing for interesting photogrphs t ny time. The wind in the Sossusvlei re blows from ll directions cusing the snd to form str shpe with multiple rms, hence the nme str dunes. The Tsuchb River hs shped the Sesriem Cnyon over millions of yers.
