4 Contents Introduction This booklet is aimed at in Years 7, 8 and 9 and has been designed to give you all the information you need to select activities and experiences that will inspire and challenge you. The activities are divided into 3 sections and are asked to pick 3 activities in preference order. These choices should be indicated on the reply slip at the rear of this booklet, accompanied by the appropriate deposit by the 17th November. Section 1 - over 375, including a residential experience abroad (accompanied by a 125 non-refundable deposit). Section 2 - activities priced over 100, including residential experiences (accompanied by a 40 non-refundable deposit). Section 3 - activities ranging from (accompanied by a 20 non-refundable deposit). Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If wish to be kept with a friend, this should be indicated on the reply slip where they must choose the same activities in the same rank order and hand their forms in at the same time. The prices indicated are approximate costs and once we know the actual numbers of on each activity, we will write to you to confirm your place and the exact costs of each activity. Any student who does not choose an activity or is unable to pay for the activity by the deadline date will remain at College all week, with the programme being decided for them. In May, the trip leader will write to you with the final arrangements for the week and, where a residential is involved, hold a parents meeting. For information on payment options, please refer to the information at the rear of this booklet. This 5 day 4 night trip will take to view the battlefields and memorials of WWI and finish on a more light-hearted experience at a theme park in Ypres. 8 5 day/4 night residential Surfing & Climbing Safari Leaving early on the Monday morning we will be greeted by the crystal clear waters, golden sand and the most consistent surf in the UK at Sennen Cove. After erecting our homes for the week at Travedra Farm, we will take on the first of our many surfing and climbing lessons led by Sennen Surf Centre and Mr Salter. As well as wave riding and climbing, we will have fun playing beach games and flat water activities. This experience will educate you in the art of surfing, climbing and heighten your awareness of our environment. Students will be expected to attend fundraising and How to erect a tent sessions after College nearer the time. cost: Capacity for 25 Mr Gardiner 6 Sir John Hunt
9 Wheeldon Off Road Adventure A full week of activities which includes an exclusive two day off road motorbike training course at the Wheeldon Off Road Centre. This will be on the indoor arena of the junior track and the main 30,000 square foot arena. Both are the perfect location for riding, no matter how experienced you are! You will also try out both practical and theory instruction in motorcycle mechanics, visit motorcycle retailers and receive in College talks from motorcycle specialists, Police and Fire & Rescue. All training and an assessment is carried out by MCF/ACU accredited coaches. All riding kit and safety equipment is provided. cost: Capacity for 24 Mrs Garry Enrichment Week
10 5 day/4 night residential I Survived Snowdonia This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the landscape of Snowdonia in North Wales. We will climb to the top of Snowdon, swim in lakes, rivers and the sea and climb rock faces. The accommodation is situated at the head of a valley by a beautiful lake, giving you plenty of time to chill out and explore with your friends. If you enjoy challenging yourself in amazing surroundings and relaxing in the evenings with a hot chocolate by a campfire, then this trip is for you! In the cottage we take it in turns to cook and clean whilst the others have free time playing games in the grounds. Make sure you bring some spending money for souvenirs and ice creams when we visit the castle town of Conwy. cost: Capacity for 20 Mr Alcock 8 Sir John Hunt
11 Horse Riding You have the opportunity to take part in a fun filled action packed 5 day trip. The days will be spent learning about how to care for horses and enjoying the fresh air on horseback. You will take part in a range of activities including a gymkhana, woodland ride, picnic rides and a pony show where rosettes can be won. This activity is open to beginners and experienced horse riders. 12 Active Adventures Are you adventurous? Would you like to try a new sport or experience that pushes you to your limits? Then this trip is for you. Active Adventures combines a range of activities with a visit to the South West s biggest interactive Science Centre and only 3D Planetarium. Activities include, stand up paddle boarding and windsurfing at Mount Batten Centre, surfing, zip lining, and the formidable Tree Jump at Treesurfers, mountain biking on a range of trails at Haldon Forest and Plymbridge Woods, a visit to the Bristol Science Museum including a visit into the massive 3D Planetarium. 13 Lopwell Barn Adventures Could you survive in the wilderness? Join us for a week at Lopwell Barn with a range of activities selected by you, which could include: Team Building Den Building Moor Walking Raft Building Canoeing Gorge Walking Coracle Building Bushcraft and Forest School Mountain Biking Caving Coasteering Snorkelling Beach Day cost: Capacity for 12 Miss Daykin Enrichment Week
14 Sea Fishing The sea fishing activity this year will give you the opportunity to see the outstanding game angling the south west has to offer. Last year we caught fish bigger than ourselves and witnessed dolphins jumping around the boat. The week will include: 3 days sea fishing on board the premier charter fishing vessel Crusader. 1 day trout fishing at Tavistock Trout Fishery. This fishery is stocked with different kinds of brown trout. 1 day shore fishing at Brixham Breakwater or Berry Head. These locations offer a wide variety of fish species to be caught in the summer. cost: Capacity for 10 Mr Lavis 12 Sir John Hunt
15 Wet & Wild A fun filled week of wet and wild activities including; the human swing, air drop, caving, rafting, total wipeout floating inflatables and riding the flumes at Splashdown. Then on to a safari park to experience the wild side. We will enter the dark caves of Kent s Cavern and explore Newquay Zoo and The Eden Project. Activities include: Monday: Longleat Safari Park Tuesday: Newquay Zoo & Retallack Aqua Park Wednesday: Hangloose and The Eden Project Thursday: rock climbing, caving and raft building Friday: Kents Cavern and Splash Down cost: Capacity for 40 Mrs Laity Enrichment Week

17 Sound & Vision In Sound & Vision you will rehearse and perform music, which will be recorded at a professional level. We will design and manufacture the CDs, which will be available for sale. We will also make our own high quality music videos for a selection of the recorded tracks. At the end of the week, we will play live in Plymouth city centre and sell our CDs, before taking lunch at Pizza Hut. We will then return to Sir John Hunt and perform at the Woodfest Music Festival. Money raised from selling the CDs will be donated to a Plymouth-based charity chosen by the group. cost: Capacity for 30 Mr Cleverley Enrichment Week
18 Mountain Bike Adventures In this activity will visit various cycle trails in Devon and Cornwall riding on single track trails up to a red difficulty level. Students will learn to deal with hazards such as rocks, roots and other natural obstacles as well as designed features such as drop offs, berms and steep descents as part of the week. This activity is for riders with some previous experience of cycling off road. It is not a learn to ride scheme! Students on some days will cycle between ten and twenty miles. 19 May Include 1 night residential Trekking Trails You are a very lucky person! We live in the most glorious part of the world, let s get outside and prove it. We will be taking to the tracks, footpaths and trails of the South West through woods, moorland and cliffs. Students will be walking to a different location each day. They will not be route marching, instead looking to experience the wonder and joy of simple walking. We will be trekking around 10km each day and there might be a two day expedition and camp on Dartmoor depending on progress and weather conditions. 20 Pick & Mix You have the opportunity to take part in this unique outdoor activity mix that offers a range of challenges and experiences that are hugely rewarding. Activities include: Getting up and close with wildlife whilst visiting Paignton Zoo. Visiting Crealy and Splashdown in Devon to put your adrenalin to the test. Developing your water sport skills by visiting Mt Batten Centre. Work as part of a team sailing and develop your independence by balancing on a paddle board. cost: Capacity for 60 Mr Benney 18 Sir John Hunt
21 Textiles Extravaganza This year the Textile Extravaganza will again focus on the joy of playing with fabrics, dyes and threads to create a range of beautiful products to be used in your own home or given to friends and family as gifts with a personal touch. We will have one outing during the week to The National Marine Aquarium to gain inspiration for our designs. At the end of the week we will invite friends and families in to an exhibition of our work to celebrate everything we will have achieved. cost: Capacity for 14 Mrs Long Enrichment Week
22 Culinary Chaos Come for a week of cookery and discovery; explore the multitude of culinary delights Plymouth has to offer and experience cooking different foods yourself. The week will include: A food tasting session A collaborative Chinese banquet 20 Sir John Hunt A workshop in a restaurant making pizzas An exploration of American food and culture Meet a local baker and learn how to make pasties Finally, you ll get to test your new skills in the Sir John Hunt Bake-off cost: Capacity for 18 Miss Lewis
23 Football Frenzy Ever wonder how hard a footballer trains every day? Think you re cut out for the footballing profession? Sign up for Football Frenzy to train harder than your average footballer does in one week. Learn about the basics of the job and other jobs available in the football industry. Work on your basic skills including shooting, passing and communication with fully qualified professional coaches. cost: Capacity for 40 Mr Sharpe Enrichment Week
24 Contents Payments Deposits and reply slips: The finance team will be in the dining hall every day from 8.00am am from the 6th - 10th November 2017 to collect your envelopes containing your deposits and reply slips. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, deposits will be taken by cheques or cash only. Further payments must be made by ParentPay, which will be allocated against your child once their activity has been confimred. Please note that your deposit needs to match the most expensive activity chosen. 50% of your total trip payment must be made via ParentPay by 31st January 2018 To ease any financial pressures, the College has put the following payment systems in place: a) all in receipt of free school meals can use their 20 voucher (issued in October) towards the cost of the trips; b) can use their Praise Points to buy vouchers which can be redeemed against the cost of the trips; c) Christmas vouchers can be purchased (on sale at Student Services), where relatives/friends can buy a voucher to contribute towards Enrichment Week costs.
