1 YEAR 10 EXPEDITION CHOICES FOR 2016 MARCH OPTIONS March option #1 Bushwalk & Surfing at Wilsons Prom Students will spend the week hiking around one of Australia s most spectacular National Parks. The incredible variety of terrain is one of the great attractions of the area. Students will walk along pristine beaches, through rainforests and over mountains providing breathtaking views. Off Shore Surf School will provide professional instructors to run a Learn to Surf session at Tidal River to complete the journey. Each night will be spent at a different campsite, all of which are well maintained by Parks Victoria. Ability to swim 50m comfortably. Moderate level of fitness camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), backpack, waterproof jacket, over pants, sleeping mats, trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own hiking equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. Depart TPS 8.00am Monday 21 March, 2016 Return TPS 4.00pm Thursday 24 March, 2016 Cost $480 Max number 20 students (2 groups of 10)

2 March option #2 Sea Kayaking at the Gippsland Lakes Students have the opportunity to join the staff from Adventure Plus and glide their way from Paynesville to Rottomah Island and beyond. Participants will slice through the water in twoperson sea kayaks, enabling great distances to be covered with ease. Evenings will be spent camping and relaxing at a different campsite each night. Students will be self sufficient for the week; all equipment will fit into the storage compartments of the sea kayaks. Must be able to swim 50m comfortably. camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), waterproof jacket, over pants, sleeping mats, trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own camping equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. Sea Kayaks and relevant safety equipment will also be provided by Adventure Plus. Depart TPS 7.00am Monday 21 March, 2016 Return TPS 4.30pm Thursday 24 March, 2016 Cost $550 Max number 24 students (2 groups of 12)

3 March option #3 Horse Riding at Coonawarra Students will travel to the Coonawarra Resort near the Mitchell River National Park. Once there our experienced riding instructors will cover the appropriate safety guidelines and introduce basic riding techniques. For the rest of the week students will ride in and around the National Park. The routes chosen will depend on the ability level of the participants. Due to the four day week the group will stay at The Barn each evening in order to maximise the time available for riding. None. This camp is open to all students, regardless of horseriding experience. camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), waterproof jacket, sleeping mats and trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own camping equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. Horses and relevant safety equipment will also be provided by Coonawarra Resort. 4 March option #4 Mitchell River Paddle (IK2) This four day journey takes place in the Mitchell River National Park. This is a paddle down one of Victoria s premiere white water rivers. The Mitchell is an extremely popular rafting destination as it provides solid water flows year round and enables students to challenge themselves in a demanding, yet controlled environment. The group will navigate their way down the rapids and flat water sections of the Mitchell River from Angusvale to Final Fling, supported by paddling instructors from Adventure Plus Outdoor Education. Must be able to swim 50m comfortably Basic level of fitness Ability to communicate effectively with others camping equipment including: waterproof jacket, over pants, wetsuits, sleeping mats, trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own camping equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. Rafts and relevant safety equipment will also be provided by Adventure Plus. Depart TPS Monday 21 March, 2016 Return TPS Thursday 24 March, 2016 Cost $700 Max number 10 students

6 September option #2 Rock Climbing at Mt Arapiles Immerse yourself in an intense five day rock climbing experience at Mt Arapiles, in north west Victoria. Mt Arapiles is widely regarded as Australia s premier climbing site. Local climbing guides from The Climbing Company will assist The Peninsula School and Adventure Plus staff with instruction. Students will be challenged by single pitch climbing at various grades and multi pitch climbing in small groups. The group will set up a base camp at the foot of Mt Arapiles for the four nights. Enjoy rock climbing! Realisation that some of the climbs are very exposed Be well organised as there will be no opportunity to purchase additional supplies during the week. camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), waterproof jacket, over pants, sleeping mats and trangia stoves. 7 September option #3 Mountain Biking at the Gold Fields (Castlemaine) Students attending the mountain biking camp will explore a variety of different 4WD trails and single tracks that will challenge even the strongest riders. The staff from Adventure Plus Outdoor Education will introduce basic as well as advanced riding techniques, which will be essential to ensure an exciting and safe experience. All riding will be on high quality, well maintained front / duel suspension bikes. Bike mechanics and maintenance will also be part of the learning. The degree of riding difficulty will be determined by the fitness and ability of the group. Camping equipment will be transported by the 4WD safety vehicle so that students will not be encumbered by backpacks. Ability to ride a mountain bike with confidence. Moderate High level of fitness Well planned menu due to the high energy demands of the camp Cycling shorts are highly recommended. camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), waterproof jacket, over pants, sleeping mats and trangia stoves. 8 September option #4 Tall Ship Enterprize The Peninsula School is proud to offer this genuine once in alifetime experience. Students will join the professional crew of the Enterprize and learn to sail an historic replica tall ship. For three days everyone on board will share in the responsibilities of sailing & navigating the Enterprize around Port Phillip Bay. The final two days will see TPS students take control of the ship, utilizing the new skills they have acquired. This journey offers the opportunity to develop our future thinkers and leaders. Must be able to swim 50m comfortably Basic level of fitness Willingness to work as part of a team No specialist equipment is required. All food is provided on the Enterprize expedition. Depart TPS 8.00am Monday 12 September, 2016 Return TPS 4.30pm Friday 16 September, 2016 Cost $1,400 Max number 8 students

9 September option #5 Mt Biking, Canoeing & Hiking at Lake Tyers As part of the Lake Tyers camp students will participate in a variety of activities. The team from First Track Adventures will meet the group at Nicholson and begin a mountain bike ride along the historic rail trail to Nowa Nowa. Day 2 will see students challenged on the Nowa Nowa mountain bike trails all single track. Students swap pedals for paddles on Day 3 and 4 as they journey across Lake Tyers towards the Glasshouse Ruins. On the final day students will enjoy a scenic bushwalk to the Eastern Beach Caravan Park before returning to school. Ability to ride a bike. Must be able to swim 50m comfortably Basic level of fitness camping equipment including: hiking tent (2 man), waterproof jacket, over pants, sleeping mats and trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own hiking equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. All specialist and safety equipment will be provided by First Track Adventures. 10 September option #6 Mitchell River White Water Rafting On this five day expedition students will receive instruction from professional rafting guides and develop the basic skills required to safely navigate the rapids scattered along the Mitchell River. Each rafting team will need to work as a cohesive unit to successfully complete the journey from Angusvale to Final Fling. Nights will be spent camping at designated campsites along the river. Must be able to swim 50m comfortably Basic level of fitness Ability to communicate effectively with others camping equipment including: waterproof jacket, over pants, wetsuits, sleeping mats and trangia stoves. Students are welcome to bring their own camping equipment but it must first be approved by Outdoor Education staff. Rafts and all safety equipment will be provided by Adventure Plus.
