1 Summer Programme 2018 Where your adventure begins Fun Adventure Learning Friendship
2 Summer Holiday Courses 2018 Bike 1/2 Bike 3 Bush Craft 2/3 An introduction to the fast moving sport of Mountain Biking on local trails. No previous experience required although you need to be able to ride a bike! We may cover elements of Cycling Scotland s Go Mountain Bike Scheme*. A course for experienced and enthusiastic mountain bikers. Why not put all your previous skills into practice on challenging routes Scotland the exact itinerary will be dependent on group experience, desires and weather whatever we do you are guaranteed fun on two wheels. Moving on from the basics of the Taster you will perhaps learn more advanced fire lighting or shelter building techniques, you may make your own tools or perhaps even create your own piece of art in or with the natural woodland environment. Of course hot drinks and fires are still an option too. Climb 1 Climb 2 Climb 2/3 An introduction to rock climbing indoors and (depending on ability - outside too). All safety aspects as well as technique will be covered on this one stop shop for learning the basics. No previous experience is required. We may cover elements of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme*. Multi Activity 1 or 2 Following on from Climb 1 this course continues to develop safe practices as well as concentrating more on technique and moving towards independence and moves outside for element of the course. Previous experience should be attendance on Climb 1 or have taken part in rock climbing on 2 or 3 occasions previously. We may cover elements of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme*. Paddle Sports 1 Building upon Climb 2 participants will have will have an independent range of skills, techniques and tactics to begin to climb harder for longer. The focus at Level 3 is to develop towards independence empowering good decision making, route selection to progress and remain safe. We may cover elements of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme*. Paddle Sports 2/3 Our most popular programmes. An introduction to a range of fun activities which may include archery, biking, paddle sports, sailing, woodland adventure, hill walking. Children will gain basic activity skills and look towards further adventures in coming years. No previous experience required for Multi 1. Applicants for Multi 2 must have attended at least one Multi 1 or have had similar experience. An introduction to Canoe and Kayak sports. Participants will develop skills in both types of craft using local venues such as Linlithgow Loch and the Union Canal. No previous experience required, we just ask that participants are water-confident. We may cover elements of the Scottish Canoe Association Awards Scheme*. The programme develops paddle sports skills and uses local venues and perhaps a more adventurous location later in the course. All paddlers should be confident in and around water and be able to paddle canoes/kayaks to some degree. Attendance on Level 1 or similar experience is required. We may cover elements of the Scottish Canoe Association Awards Scheme*.
3 Summer Holiday Courses 2018 Sailing 1/2 Sailing 2/3 Windsurf 1 An introduction to the fast paced sport of sailing just try wiping that smile of your face when you have been blasting across the loch all day! No previous experience required. We will deliver elements of the Royal Yachting Association Stages scheme*. Having attended a Sailing 1 course or having similar experience you will have some basic skills and be wishing to polish your technique to get even more skilful on the water. Successful completion of RYA Stage 1 award or similar experience is essential. We will deliver elements of the Royal Yachting Association Stages* scheme. The combination of Linlithgow Loch, special light weight sails, wide stable boards and warm wetsuits will get you up and windsurfing around in no time. No previous experience required. We will deliver elements of the Royal Yachting Association Stages scheme*. Wet and Wild Additional Courses Our popular course for 11+ offers a fun packed week full of adventure and excitement. Each day you will take part in a fast paced water based activity and visit fabulous places. During the week you will swim, climb, jump, paddle and surf as you explore a gorge, journey along rocky coastline, ride white water rapids or surf waves. No experience required but participants should be confident swimmers. Windsurf 1 Low Port Centre is in the process of recruiting more Outdoor Education staff, as a consequence, and in time, additional courses may be added to our 2018 Summer Programme. If you are interested in booking a place on any new courses please provide your name and contact details and we will add you onto our waiting lists. We will then be able to contact you by or telephone. Also check out West Lothian Leisure Facebook and Low Port Centre web page for any additional programme information.
4 Summer Holiday Courses 2018 When are the courses and how much are they?. Please see the schedule for all courses throughout the summer which contains the dates, times and course costs for each course. Please call the office on with any questions. *National Governing Body Certification Where courses have the option of providing this facility there may be an additional charge for certificates and/or logbooks for those who wish to be certificated. Cancellations Cancellations Refunds will be given only for courses cancelled by Low Port Centre or in other exceptional circumstances. An admin fee will apply to changes to bookings. The full course fee will be charged for children withdrawn from a course by Low Port staff. How do I book? Bookings open on Friday 11 May 2018 at 9.15am and places will be allocated to courses in the order received. Please note that we cannot accept bookings by telephone. Post, or hand in completed booking sheet along with the consent forms to Low Port Centre with cheque payment. Alternatively, if you prefer to pay using credit/debit card, please contact the office within 48 hours of receiving confirmation of your reserved space. After this time your space will be allocated to someone else. Paperwork Please ensure you have fully completed both consent forms for medical treatment and photography purposes. These important forms must be returned with your booking document otherwise your application will be rejected without reserving your place. Important Information All children must be the correct age as stated on the programme at the start of their course. We wish to inform parents / carers that due to service limitations Low Port Centre will not be providing child wraparound care or pick-ups / drop offs. Centre doors will open at 9:15am and all parents /carers should accompany their child to the gym hall meeting area as directed by Centre staff. Parents /carers must remain with their child until instructor collects the group at 9:30am for their planned activity. Young people who are of high school age may arrive unaccompanied but will be expected to conduct themselves in a mature and safe manner without adult supervision in the Gym Hall until course commencement. Please do not arrive before 0915 in either case. What should I bring with me each day? You will need: Full change of clothes including footwear plus shower kit and a towel. Packed lunch with a drink plus drinks, snacks for during the day. 20p for using the lockers to keep belongings safe. Sun protection, eg sun cream, sunhat Any medication that may be needed during the activity insulin, asthma inhalers, epi-pens etc. You do not need: Valuables, phones, music players etc as we cannot guarantee their safety. A full kit list will be included in your booking pack. Course Grading Our courses are graded to suit a range of age and ability. Please observe this when making applications. In the interest of the safety and well-being of all participants, we reserve the right to withdraw anyone whose ability does not match the required standard for a course. Level 1 - for beginners and those with little or no previous experience, e.g. Kayak 1, Sail 1 Level 2 - for those who have completed all the skills of Level 1 (or similar) and are ready for the next challenge. Level 3 - for experienced students only. Good results at Level 2 (or similar) are essential before moving to Level 3.
