1 November 2018 Newsletter Don t Forget Election Day is November 6 th! Next week is Election Day. We hope you have voted already during early voting, but if you haven t, you still have time. Dover City Schools is on the ballot for an 8.9 mill operating levy to preserve the quality of our schools and many programs and opportunities that prepare our students for college and career. It will ensure that classrooms have up-to-date technology and will help enhance safety and security in our schools. Without additional funds, our school district will have to reduce programs and opportunities, which will impact significantly the type of education we can offer our students. Halloween Party Our Halloween party was thoroughly enjoyed by our students. The entire party was quite impressive and we really owe a big "Thank You" to all of our dedicated parents who assisted with the party. We had many parents who volunteered their time at the party - along with numerous parents who donated treats. Our students would never have had such a party if it weren't for those parents who assisted. A special thanks is extend to Ivy Banks, Jen Heckathorn, Jessi Pirtle & Chelsea Siegenthaler who served on the committee and Ashley Huston who served as chairperson. Fall Sale Many thanks are in order to our students for their efforts and to Dover Avenue parents who supported this project. This year's sale through "The Great Western Reserve Corporation," along with your efforts - helped us earn a profit for our school! An assembly will be held to recognize our highest salespeople. Once again - Thank You! Money from all sales was due by Friday, October 26, Picture Retakes Picture Retakes are scheduled for Wednesday, November 29 at 9:00 A.M. Picture retakes are available to: 1. New students since October 9 2. Students not pleased with their pictures taken in October. (Pictures must be returned on the day of photo retakes)

2 3. Students who were absent on the first picture day. If you need a picture envelope for pricing & purchases - please request one from the office. Lunch Parents who wish to eat lunch here at school with their children are always welcome. Please remember to order your lunch by 9:00 AM. Adult lunch is $3.00. Conferences Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on November 1 and also on November 8. Your attendance is highly encouraged. These conferences provide us with the opportunity for school and home to work together to better help our children achieve. Due to the number of conferences teachers will be involved with, it is important that each begins and ends on time Bus Transportation Just a reminder: if students are riding to or from school on a different bus...ex.) One child riding a bus home with a friend...we MUST have a note from parents granting permission. A "bus permit" is completed in the office to present to the bus drivers. Bus drivers will not provide this service without a bus permit from the office. Your cooperation is appreciated in helping us to provide for your child's safety and well being. Child Find Area school districts are joining those across the state in participating in an effort to identify, locate and evaluate all children from birth through age 21 who may have disabilities. Many unidentified children with disabilities are preschoolers and parents may not be aware their child has a disability or that there are programs and services available. Anyone knowing of a child who may have a disability, should contact the school office. Box Tops, Our Family & Tyson Labels Please continue to collect these labels. We redeem them for teaching materials and playground equipment. Thanks are extended to all who offered to help count labels. We appreciate all who volunteered to assist. Thanks to our Chairperson, Tara Ireland. Cross Walks Parents are asked NOT to block the crosswalks at dismissal time. Cars parked in the crosswalk area make it difficult for students to cross the streets safely. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Congrats to Madi Bantum! Madi Bantum, a fifth grader will represent Dover Avenue in the Young Authors conference held on November 2 in our county. Yeah Madi!

Our Student Council will provide some thoughts via the morning announcements and staff will focus on areas within our school with specific reminders for students.

A Climate of Kindness at Dover Avenue We have a new slogan/theme for the year here at school. We are encouraging students to display kindness, respect, greeting each other and being considerate. Our Student Council will provide some thoughts via the morning announcements and staff will focus on areas within our school with specific reminders for students. November and December will focus upon bus and cafeteria expectations. Thank you to our parents for encouraging students to always display A Climate of Kindness at Dover Avenue School. Cudos to Addison Wikoff and Hallee Chatman! In an assembly held recently, Jim Basketball Jones played a game of Simon Says with the winner receiving a basketball. When the game eliminated all but Addison and Haylee he gave them the option of donating the ball for use in our school or continuing the game to win the ball for themselves. The girls gave up their individual chance for the betterment of someone else. Yeah Addison and Haylee for promoting A Climate of Kindness at Dover Avenue School. Phone Notification System In the event of an emergency, Dover City Schools has in place a phone notification system. A call will be made to notify students and parents of the emergency and what procedures will be implemented. This phone system may also be used in nonemergency situations to share important information with families. This "Hotline Information" is posted on the school website under the Parents link. If you change your phone number or eliminate any lines, please notify the school, so we can make any necessary changes.

Please activate the monitoring device by ringing the button. Office personnel will unlock the door once you've been identified-granting entrance into our building. Visitors must report to the office and sign in their purpose. Dover Avenue School practices a variety of Emergency Procedures including Fire Drills, Tornado Drills, Lockdown Drills and Evacuation Drills. Appropriate supervision is scheduled for arrival, dismissal and during recess times. The Dover Police occasionally circulate our building. The Raptor System has recently been installed. All visitors going beyond the office must be checked in via a photo ID. Safety is a priority at our school and we have attempted to be proactive by taking precautions to provide a safe environment for our students and families. We ask all of our community to please be aware of suspicious situations and feel free to inform the school if questions arise. Parking at Dover Avenue is limited. Please be respectful of our neighbors and refrain from parking in their driveways and in the alley alongside our school. Our neighbors are so accepting of our children and we want to also be polite to them. 5 No se olvide de día de las elecciones es el 6 denoviembre! La próxima semana es el día de las elecciones. Esperamos que haya votado ya durante la votación temprana, pero si no lo ha hecho, todavía tiene tiempo. Dover City Schools está en la boleta electoral para un impuesto de operación de 8.9 millones para preservar la calidad de nuestras escuelas y muchos programas y oportunidades que preparan a nuestros estudiantes para la universidad y la carrera. Venta de otoño Muchas gracias a nuestros estudiantes por sus esfuerzos y a los padres de Dover Avenue que apoyaron este proyecto. La venta de este año a través de "The Great Western Reserve Corporation", junto con sus esfuerzos, nos ayudó a obtener ganancias para nuestra escuela! Se realizará una asamblea para reconocer a nuestros más altos vendedores. Una vez más - gracias Tú! El dinero de todas las ventas vencía el viernes 26 de octubre de Retomar fotos Las retomas de fotos están programadas para el miércoles 29 de noviembre a las 9:00 AM Las tomas de fotos están disponibles para: 1. Estudiantes nuevos desde el 9 de octubre 2. Estudiantes que no están satisfechos con sus fotos tomadas en octubre. (Las fotos deben devolverse el día de la toma de fotografías) 3. Estudiantes que estuvieron ausentes el primer día de fotos. Si necesita un sobre con imagen para precios y compras, solicite uno en la oficina. Almuerzo Los padres que deseen almorzar aquí en la escuela con sus hijos siempre son bienvenidos. Por favor recuerde ordenar su almuerzo antes de las 9:00 AM. El almuerzo de adultos es de $ 3.00.

6 Conferencias Las conferencias de padres y maestros se llevarán a cabo el 1 de noviembre y también el 8 de noviembre. Su asistencia es altamente alentadora. Estas conferencias nos brindan la oportunidad de que la escuela y el hogar trabajen juntos para ayudar a nuestros hijos a lograr mejor. Debido a la cantidad de conferencias con las que participarán los maestros, es importante que cada una comience y termine a tiempo Transporte en autobús Solo un recordatorio: si los estudiantes viajan ao desde la escuela en un autobús diferente... ej.) Un niño viaja en el autobús con un amigo... DEBEMOS tener una nota de los padres que otorgue el permiso. Se completa un "permiso de autobús" en la oficina para presentarlo a los conductores del autobús. Los conductores de autobuses no proporcionarán este servicio sin un permiso de autobús de la oficina. Agradecemos su colaboración para ayudarnos a garantizar la seguridad y el bienestar de su hijo. Niño encontrar Los distritos escolares del área se unen a los de todo el estado para participar en un esfuerzo por identificar, localizar y evaluar a todos los niños desde el nacimiento hasta los 21 años que puedan tener discapacidades. Muchos niños con discapacidades no identificados son niños en edad preescolar y es posible que los padres no sepan que su hijo tiene una discapacidad o que existen programas y servicios disponibles. Paseos cruzados Se les pide a los padres que NO bloqueen los pasos de peatones a la hora de salida. Los automóviles estacionados en el área de cruce de peatones dificultan que los estudiantes crucen las calles de manera segura. Tu cooperación es apreciada.

7 Felicidades a Madi Bantum! Madi Bantum, una estudiante de quinto grado, representará a Dover Avenuellevará a en la conferencia de Jóvenes Autores que secabo el 2 de noviembre en nuestro condado. Si madi "Un clima de bondad" en Dover Avenue Tenemos un nuevo eslogan / tema para el año aquí en la escuela. Estamos animando a los estudiantes a mostrar amabilidad, respeto, saludarnos y ser considerados. Nuestro Consejo Estudiantil proporcionará algunas ideas a través de los anuncios de la mañana y el personal se enfocará en áreas dentro de nuestra escuela con recordatorios específicos para los estudiantes. Noviembre y diciembre se enfocarán en las expectativas de autobuses y cafeterías. Sistema de notificación telefónica En caso de una emergencia, las Escuelas de la Ciudad de Dover tienen implementado un sistema de notificación telefónica. Se realizará una llamada para notificar a los estudiantes y a los padres sobre la emergencia y qué procedimientos se implementarán. Este sistema telefónico también se puede usar en situaciones que no sean de emergencia para compartir información importante con las familias. Esta "Información de la línea directa" se publica en el sitio web de la escuela bajo el enlace Padres. Si cambia su número de teléfono o elimine cualquier línea, por favor notifique a la escuela, para que podamos hacer cualquier Cambios necesarios. Seguridad escolar Procedimientos de seguridad que empleamos en la escuela de Dover Avenue. Todas las puertas de nuestra escuela están cerradas durante todo el día.
