We have had some beautiful weather lately, so hopefully you ve been able to get out on the water and stop by the Harbor Grill and enjoy the beautiful view. Father s Day brunch was another successful event at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club. The Summer Youth Program is in full swing to so far the kids are really enjoying the summer activities. Steve Ryland Commodore Do not forget to sign up for Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, which is coming up in just a few weeks. That event will fill up quickly, so please make sure you secure your spot. Our ad hoc committee for our Harbor Grill project is in full momentum. The project is on track and will be another exciting renovation for our beautiful Club and will improving our member experience. Please continue to come out and support your Club. Due to our members and the awesome staff that makes our experience exceptional, the Club continues to be on a path for great future success. No intrest in the water? Enjoy a cool cocktail in the shade or in the air conditioned comfort of the Clubhouse or Harbor Grill..the soon to be renovated and expanded Harbor Grill! I'm happy to report that an ad hoc, Harbor Grill Project Committee, lead by Chair, Past Commodore Michael Cerow, has been busy for the past several weeks and are getting ready to recommend a lead project Architect for Board approval. We will then get all the wheels in motion to confirm all layouts and plans so we can get going on the permitting process and bidding of contractors and suppliers. I trust that by next month, we will have a good idea of the timeline for breaking ground. We'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, enjoy your summer at the Club! Stay cool my friends! I was thinking, where did this phrase come from? After a little research I came across this definition: The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, which Greek and Roman astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, & bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. While I have not seen any mad dogs, we have had many sudden thunder storms & at times I have felt a little lethargic. Our Summer Youth Program is in full swing and in addition to this, EGYC welcomes Laura Martin! Laura will be heading up our Kids Club. She enjoys painting, beading, paper crafting, and playing games with her family. This fall marks her 18th year as an elementary educator. She joins us on Fridays from 6-9 p.m., where our young members dine and experience different fun and engaging activities, games, and crafts. A Trial is $ and application requirements the same as any other EGYC membership of: 1). A completed application; 2). Two sponsor letters introducing the candidate; 3). Color digital photograph; and 4). An initiation check. A dramatic difference between a Trial and Resident membership is that Trial members may not visit our fellow 35 Florida Council of Yacht Clubs (FCYC) locations north in Jacksonville, south to Marathon Key, and west coast Naples to the Pensacola panhandle. Some member classes just saw an initiation increase the first time since A Club membership holds its value for all our singles, professionals, families and couples. 13 FLORIDA Council of Yacht Clubs From the Director Roger Wernow The July FCYC meeting will be held July 20th through the 22 at Carlouel Yacht and Beach Club in Clearwater Beach. Carlouel was formed in 1934 as a cabana club. It was named after the wives of the three founders, Caroline Hobart, Louise Palmer, and Eleanor Randolph. At first, 100 local families were invited to join the club which was incorporated and sold to the members in The club occupies a unique piece of land stretching from the Intracoastal Waterway to the only private beach in Clearwater. Those who attend Friday night will enjoy the clubs renowned whole Maine Lobster Dinner. Saturday morning will feature a tour of the Clearwater Aquarium followed by lunch at the club. We re looking forward to this meeting as this is one of only four of the FCYC clubs we have not yet visited. If you would like to join us, please contact Micah Simpson before July 15th. The business meetings will begin at 1pm and will include a Coast Guard and Fleet Captains meeting as well as the usual committee reports. We ll have an opportunity to hear from Lindsay Cross, guest speaker from the Florida Wildlife Corridor, a statewide project linking conservation lands throughout Florida. If you re as unfamiliar with this project as I was, see After the speaker, we expect the Government Affairs and other committee reports to round out the afternoon. From interacting with our week-long summer youth participants to the brisk activity along Kenny Kooyenga the docks all weekend Harbormaster long, it's 90 degrees in the shade and summer is in full swing. Our recent offshore fishing tournament was a blast with all who attended having a FUN justified day offshore in ideal conditions. Now mark your calendars for our Kids Youth Fishing tournament scheduled for July 22nd here along the waterfront just outside the grill. Bait will be provided and competition T-shirts will be made available to all who officially" sign up for this quickly approaching event. Please also note that a few spots remain for your EGYC Summer Youth Sailing Program scheduled here at the Club throughout the entire month of July. Mr. Lascody gave an informative presentation about the services provided by NOAA and the National Weather Service. His talk was mostly about how to navigated through their web site and find important information about our local forecast and weather conditions. His particular focus for the Captains Table was on Marine forecasting. The title of his talk was There is no App for Common Sense; Navigating the NWS Melbourne Marine Web Page; His particular focus for the Captains Table was on Marine forecasting, however the site also provides information for aviation and coastal conditions. He stressed the importance of accurate weather forecasting for boating safety and gave us an interesting statistic % of all weather-related boating fatalities in Brevard County occur in March and April on Sundays. He said that you can input the longitude and latitude in the web site for your fishing location to receive weather information and he reminded us about importance of the NOAA Weather Radio. The NWS has also started using Twitter to send weather related warnings. Speaker 4/17/2018: Shaun Allen; Sale Representative for West Marine in Melbourne. Mr. Allen talked about the services and promotional programs that West Marine offers to their customers. West Marine has over 60 stores in the United States and they also provide clothing and fishing equipment well as boating accessories. They also have a commercial division that provides mobile service and repair. They have a preferred customer program called West Advantage that provides a 4% cash back. It also includes towing, gas, and trailer repair services. They strive to engage with customers and are constantly improving their internet web site. West Marine supplies that paddleboards and kayaks for the EGYC and has an Affiliate Program where the Yacht Club receives a percentage from the purchases made at West Marine by EGYC Members. West Marine has a Youth Future Fund that was created to provide fishing and sailing education for children. This fund supports fishing clubs, sailing clubs in the area as well as boy scout, girl scout, and sea scout organizations. They also provide funding to support Blue Life programs at the Brevard Zoo. Speaker 4/24/2018: Jud Kaminski, Principle at Palm Bay Magnet High School. Mr. Kaminski first gave an overview of the programs that Palm Bay Magnet High School offers to their students. The second half of his talk was about the security provided at the school and the recent efforts to harden security. Palm Bay High School has 1600 students and 100 staff. They have achieved magnet status that provides government funding and require monitoring for their programs. The school provides 13 pathways for their student education that includes, engineering, robotics, gaming and simulation, nursing, fashion design and culinary arts. Palm Bay also has a partnership with FIT where students can take up to 18 credit hours at FIT. Palm Bay High School has a full time SRO provided by the Melbourne police department. They have installed fencing and gates to create a single point of entry to the school and have an ID scanning system. They have 30 security cameras with monitors in the principle s office. An important responsibility for the faculty is to build relationships with the students to create respect and repour. The school also has personnel that monitor school social media web sites. As a result, there is no gang activities and violence has been minimal on campus. Currently Palm Bay is holding open forums to discuss whether the school should harden their security efforts by arming staff members. Spray July 2018

Katey Lebron from the Brevard Zoo will talk about the Indian River Restoration project that the Eau Gallie Yacht Club will be participating in. The health of the lagoon is a concern to all of the residents of Brevard County. The Yacht Club, as a waterfront community, will partner with the Brevard Zoo to do our part to work towards a cleaner and better Indian River Lagoon. In September, we will be presenting a novel event Shop My Closet. We all have gently used, quality clothing or accessories that we just do not use anymore.
