1 COMMODORE S COMMENTS It is with a heavy heart that I write this month s Commodore s Comments. As I am sure everyone knows Pete Merryfield passed away on May 15. Pete was an MBC Past Commodore, a valued member of our club for many years and a good friend. He will be sorely missed. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Bonnie. A Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church, W280N2101 Prospect Ave., Pewaukee, WI Just a few quick thoughts for this month A special thanks to Connie Heyden for organizing the 2018 Shove-Off-Spree at the Seven Seas. It was well attended and a great way to start the boating season. June is going to be busy. We have Tuesday Madness June 12 captained by Dick and Karen Schmidt, the LMYA Rendezvous in Port Washington June 15 to 16, and the annual Champagne and Cold Duck event at the McKinley pavilion on June 23 captained by Grey and Cindy Halstead. And, if anyone is interested, Queens Cup race week starts June 19 with a lecture by Edit Olasz Harken, MD PhD on sun protection for boaters. This will be a Wine and Cheese Reception sponsored by Harken Derm. A description of the lecture and the complete SSYC QC event schedule can be found later in the Runabouter. Time goes by too quickly. Let s be sure to enjoy every day and appreciate the friendships we have made through the Milwaukee Boat Club. 11 Expert Tips about Sunscreens And Anti-Aging Skin Care for Boaters South Shore Yacht Club - Tuesday, June 19 5:30 PM Open Discussion and Wine & Cheese Reception Dr. Edit Olasz Harken, MD, PhD, Board Certified Dermatologist Founder Harken Derm Sun, wind, and water are what boating enthusiasts dream of, but these same elements wreak havoc on our skin. It is so important to protect our skin while we are enjoying the sport we love dearly. Choosing the right sunscreen can be overwhelming as there are many choices out there. Dr. Olasz Harken s knowledge and expertise will guide you on how to make the right choice for sun protection and after sun skin care. She will explain why certain sunscreens are better for your skin and for our environment and how you can mitigate and treat the damage caused by the elements to prevent skin cancer and keep your skin young and healthy. Dr. Olasz Harken is an associate professor of dermatology. She has spent the last decade of her clinical and research career preventing and treating high-risk skin cancer in solid organ transplant patients. She is also an expert cosmetic surgeon and well-known aesthetic dermatologist. She has numerous publications and book chapters and served as an invited lecturer at many national and international conferences. She is a member of several national and international boards and committees on transplant dermatology, international volunteerism and cosmetic surgery. She is the past president of the Wisconsin Dermatological Society. Dr. Olasz Harken is co-founder of Harken Derm, a professional skin care line for sailors with her husband Peter Harken.
