We introduced ourselves, and enjoyed some banter. Minutes Duane asked if there were any additions or corrections to the August Board Meeting minutes, that were posted in the Fleet Sheet. There were none. He asked for a motion to accept them as printed. Boyd Dittmer made the motion, and George Graubner seconded. The motion carried. Purser Donna Danowski reported that the club started the month with $3, We had no income and no expenses. If you are interested in participating in that cruise, please contact Todd. 4 LABOR DAY WEEKEND STURGEON BAY, WI August 31-September 3, 2018 Captain(s) Todd and Katie Memmel Though the official start date of this cruise was August 31, three WBC families/boats went up to Door County on Wednesday: Dittmer s, Weber s and Koepke s. Three more traveled up on Thursday: Memmel s, Kaun, and Peck. Friday, August 31, 2018 Though the sun was shining, fairly strong winds were predicted, so no boating was planned. However, we were anticipating the arrival of several more boats. Zierden, Duane Delaney, and Dennis Delaney all arrived around noon. People settled in and began their afternoon plans, such as lunch and shopping. A swarm of bees flew directly into the marina, and began landing and swarming on a large boat on our dock. It was extremely creepy. Those who were at the pool stayed on that side, and those of us at the end of the dock at our boats, plotted our next moves. Two club members are allergic to bees, so extra caution was given for them to stay away. Eventually, the marina contacted a beekeeper, who came to vacuum up the bees. None of us had ever seen anything quite like that before. Weird Pecks had an impellor issue, so Todd lent Dale a hand, down in his engine compartment. Thankfully, it didn t take that long, and No Problem was once again problem-free. Groups swam at the marina and others went shopping. That night, most of us walked into town for dinner at the Firehouse. It s a nice restaurant, built into an old firehouse. It had interesting pictures hung on the walls, along with fire department badges, and a large American flag made out of firehoses. It happened to be this writer s birthday (Katie Memmel) and several kind families gave her cards, one bought her a pie and sang Happy Birthday, and Todd got her a cake (and everyone again sang Happy Birthday. ) Thank you to all who participated. It really was a happy day! The Badgers were playing, so a large group went up to the boater s lounge to watch the game and to chat. Most people went to bed between 10 and 10:30. Saturday, September 1, 2018 Captain Todd had his eye on the sky and on his radar. The weather people were predicting rain for later in the day, and again, it was quite windy. At the captain s meeting, most people wanted to walk up to the farmer s market for a while. We made the decision to meet back at the marina by 11:30, and cruise the channel; see if either large body of water would look welcoming. Delaney s waited for Paul, who was joining our cruise. First we cruised east, out to Lake Michigan. We stayed off-plane the whole way, and everyone seemed to enjoy looking at the real estate and other sites. When we got out to the lake, the waves were rolling in pretty strong, and the sky was gray and cloudy. Though we all agree it will be fun to try that area another day (when the wind s out of the west, perhaps) we all decided to head back the other way. Some ate lunch on their boats, and since the Koepke boys were riding with Dennis, a sandwich transfer was made, enroute. Talk about precision driving! We cruised underneath the bridges, and then we saw that a large ship (the Indiana Harbor?) was being moved into dock by tugs. We all enjoyed watching that for a while. We put the boats up on plane and saw that the bay was also pretty choppy, so decided to head back to the docks and hang out for a while. George and Sam Graubner drove up for the weekend, and joined Kaun s for a while. Mike and DeeDee Myer were also on the dock, saying hello when we got back. They left shortly afterward. The clouds cleared, and we decided to try having a dock party, but there were a lot of bees and other bugs flying around. We went up on the deck near the boater s lounge, and enjoyed the view, along with a cocktail (or two) before dinner. By the way, it never did rain Two groups had decided to go to dinner. One walked into town about 6:00, and ate at Crate. The other group piled into Memmel s and Peck s cars, and headed for the Nightengale. Both restaurants received high reviews from our members. Koepke s had decided to stay back and eat on their boat. Many of us ended up on WEBsight for some good conversation, while some wandered over to the large outdoor fireplace for a night-cap. Almost everyone turned in by about 10:30. Sunday, September 2, 2018 First thing in the morning, Jim and Robin had a big announcement to share. Robin s daughter had her baby overnight. Congratulations to their 4 whole family! They needed to leave the cruise early so that they could help out. We all wished them well, and helped them set sail (set power?)

5 Another windy day. One of the Koepke boys felt sick, so part of their family needed to stay back at the boat. We decided to take a few vehicles and do some land cruises. Many of us went to a favorite beach of Lisa Dittmer s called Lily Bay. It s on the Lake Michigan side. Again, it was very windy, but we all made the best of it. The ladies put on their sweatshirts, or wrapped a towel around their shoulders, and headed down the beach looking for interesting rocks. Eventually the sun came out nice and bright. If we stayed out of the wind, it was actually pretty warm, so we all got out our lawn chairs and the lunches we d packed earlier, and shared a meal together. Later, a group decided to go to a couple of wineries. Memmel s, Peck s, Delaney s, and Dittmer s enjoyed Harbor Ridge and the Door Peninsula Winery. Afterwards, we went to a dairy farm (Schopf s Hilltop Dairy) for ice-cream, and enjoyed the beautiful rolling hills view. We also saw how the dairy farm works how the cows enter, are milked, and then exit. Very interesting. We had decided to all bring food for a potluck supper, along with a bottle of wine from our afternoon excursion. The skies were looking more threatening, and thankfully, when we got back to the boats, nobody was using the boater s lounge. So we all ran through the raindrops with our dishes to pass, and created a nice spread for our supper. Some watched TV, others chatted, and most shared a glass or two of wine. Once the rain ended, we moved out onto the deck to catch some breeze. Talk turned toward our trip home the next day, and how connections would be made with our boats and trailers. Most were in their boats by 10:00 p.m. The day started early connecting cars and trailers, boats needing pump-outs, you name it. Weber s and Dittmer s decided to come back later in the week to collect their boats. Everyone else was on their trailer by 10:00 a.m. and heading for home, soon after. A very nice weekend was had by all (well, most anyway). Another successful weekend in our Door County record book Katie Memmel Dues are Due on or before the October meeting Avoid the late fee and pay early $

7 ON VACATION: Pete and Robin will be leaving the Chanticlear Resort on the 4th and driving the Corvette on Hwy 2 to Glacier national park and then on to Washington and Oregon. They will be back on the 30th just in time for the pizza meeting. The arrow points to Ren Rodee s boat which, because of flooding on Lake Mendota needs to walk through 3 feet of water to get to his boat. 7
