Greg Greenfield s passion for tractors ignited in 2003 with his first antique, a 1951 Case. This tractor needed more help than what Greg will willing to offer so the quest for the perfect collectable tractor started. Up to this time Greg was a car guy with a 1972 restored Chevy pickup, 1967 Buick Skylark convertible, 1969 GTX Plymouth convertible and a 1972 Chevelle SS454 in his garage. Now cars have taken a back seat to the classic tractors. Greg isn t too concerned about what other people think but likes a tractor that looks good and something that strikes his fancy. He isn t concerned about power or size or noise but it s about what looks really good. Currently, his looking good tractor is a red Farmall Super AV high crop. This tractor sits in his shop waiting for a high quality Farmall red paint job. Yes, Greg does like the Deeres and currently owns an original 1946 H with plow that was delivered new to Anacortes by Great Northern Railway. This is a very nice original low hour John Deere H with electric start and hydraulics. The Greenfield Anacortes Deere stable also contains a 1951 John Deere tricycle Model B. What Greg really wants is a late styled John Deere Model B with wide front end. This tractor has the correct design form and balance and can go fast enough to run the annual C2CC tractor caravan. Greg is not afraid to travel a bit to find his dream tractor. Greg is very capable to mechanically restore and paint a tractor but he would like this one ready to go. The quest continues! Some of the other colored tractors include a 1948 Massey Harris 30, another Massey that s going to have a small block V-8 engine some day, 1946 Allis Chalmers B (currently under complete restoration), 1950 Farmall Cub demonstrator, 1948 Oliver 60 tricycle, N Ford, 1951 Ferguson 30 and a 1954 Ford NAA. Most of the tractors are Puget Sound tractors but Greg has traveled to Yuma, Arizona to secure the Massey Harris; Denver, Colorado for the Cub Demonstrator and Idaho for the Oliver 60. Greg is a very gifted guy and doesn t worry about taking on any mechanical job and has become an accomplished sheet metal restorer and painter. Greg has been a C2CC member just a few years but has recently become a board member. He doesn t miss many meetings or events and even attended the Gathering of the Green this last March, The quest continues for that perfect tractor. A tip of the green and yellow hat to Greg Greenfield, our summer 2008 featured member. ajohnson.

2 Page Caravan Lopez Island President s Message July 19, 2008 Come on along, tractor or not! With this spring being so cold and wet it just didn t work for our plow day so we will go into the parade mode. Next will be our summer caravan to Lopez Island on July 19th. Make sure your tractor can travel about 8 10 miles per hour, have good brakes, slow moving sign on the back and lights. It takes all day for the caravan but we have lots of fun. Alerd will have all the detail in this newsletter. We will do parades on the 4th of July in Sedro Woolley, 10:00 a.m. (call me if questions) and Arlington at 4:00 p.m. (call Harold ). See you at the parades! Paul Hieb, President Internet Users! Check out our web site for pictures and video Northern California June Threshing Bee Our world traveler, Norm teselle just got back from a road trip to Durham, California participating in the Far West Heritage Association Spring threshing bee. Norm left on June 5 and arrived back home on June 9 th. Norm says that the wheat was planted in February and was more than ripe for this fun filled event. Durham, California is about ten miles south of Chico California and is mainly almond and walnut grove country. Besides the threshing bee, Norm got a good look at the nut harvesting equipment used in this agricultural area. The threshing bee was sponsored by the local Branch 136 of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association. The club provides all the man power and equipment and the 28 acre farm/museum is used to grow the wheat. The real estate was once part of the huge Patrick Ranch which was famous for grain. Through the years the ranch was sold off into smaller acreage for nut groves. The 28 acres and large family home was donated to the Chico Museum and is now called the Far West Heritage Association. The long weekend event involved around 50 all color tractors and some stationary engines. A club owned John Deere Lindeman BO crawler was used for the grain binder. A small Red River Special thresher was used to thresh the grain. The wheat was then sacked and moved to a cleaner and grinder which milled the grain into flour. To complete the process, the flour was used to make bread at the show. Once the grain was off the field, club members started disking and plowing the field with their antique tractors and implements. Norm says that the temperature was in the 80 to 85 degree range with a good breeze. On Saturday, over 500 spectators were in attendance. Norm was very impressed with the good old farm hospitality with two big breakfasts, lunches and a Saturday night banquet. Norm is very grateful to Steve Ebe and Dax Kimmeishue for the invitation to this annual event. Steve Ebe is a C2CC member and grew up in the Ferndale area. We should see Steve at the 2008 PSAT&MA show next month.

Minutes read and approved Treasurer s Report : $3219 on hand. So far we have raised $18,440 toward completion of JD Building. We have received final inspection, but still have some things to do. Old Business: Gathering of the Green, was a really good trip, 10 members attended. Shop Tour: Turned out good, we visited 3 places, Sorensen Seed Co., Dale Robertson s new shop and finally Paul Hieb's to look at his latest project, a JD 420 Hi-Crop. Branch 26 National Show: Nice show, weather co-operated, we had 70+ tractors were John Deere and lots of old engines. People came from all over to exhibit. New Business: Insurance has changed. We now have to name some one to be on charge of each event to be covered. This has been taken care of. We have been sampling interest in our club to operate the People Mover at the Lynden Show to help keep costs down. Brian DePoppe has finished the brick work on the building and it really looks good! We are going to dig out for the base of the JD sign and pour the base for it as weather permits. We will also plant grass around outside of the building. We want to send Brian De- Poppe a letter of appreciation. Even though he is of the red persuasion he donated his time and some materials to see to it our building was finished off in first class order. As a side note we need to clean the gutters at least twice a year with all the maple and cedar trees in close proximity. The Lynden John Deere building is progressing with wiring and preparations for the John Deere sign installation. This large sign was donated by Jim Hale of North Washington Implement and was previously used for the dealership. A Cascade 2 Cylinder Club sign is being constructed and will be attached to the front of the museum. Grass seed has been planted and the building should look good for the July 30 August Puget Sound Antique Tractor & Machinery Association show. Eleven 2 cylinder Deeres were present at the June 20 evening Burlington Farmer s Parade. Our group took 1st place in our division. A good crowd was present with a lot of interest in our tractors at the soccer field. The Saturday Burlington Berry Dairy Days Parade brought out seven of our member s tractors. This parade was well attended and is one to the best organized and conducted parades in the area. Next year, if I follow Nels Lagerland s Case steam tractor, I will remember to wear ear plugs! Oh, those steam whistles! New tractors exhibited: Paul Hieb s pristine 430 High Crop, Marlen Knutson s beautiful late styled G and A Johnson s LA.
