1 Page Antique Tractor & Machinery Club Branch 217 ISSUE No. 1 Nov PO Box 2440 Page AZ pageantiquetractors.blogspot.com Report from our First Annual Meeting On Dec. 19th, 2010, after a great breakfast, served by Jan Boehme in her home, we had our first Annual Meeting of our new club. Present were: Gene Tucker, Rob Gay, Jim and Judy Kitson, Jan Boehme, Larry Tappan, Jim Cady and Richard Christ. Gene gave a brief welcome and introduction. Judy followed with the treasure s report. We had $ in the bank. Expected expenses for the year were banner expenses about $80 (to change the dates for the shows on the street banner for the July 4th and Sept. shows) and City show permits $25. She would be applying for a grant from tourism to help with advertising. New business - the following motions were discussed and voted on. Officers - the current slate was re-elected -President -Eugene Tucker, Vice President - Rob Gay, Sec/ Treas/News - Judy Kitson, Safety - Jim Kitson. Current dues at $20 per year. $8 of the dues goes to EDGE&TA national for insurance. If they are a member of another club that gives them EDGE&TA insurance but want to support our club and get the newsletter, or if they have no interest in driving a tractor or showing equipment but want the newsletter it is $12. - approved The building of a set of scales to weigh tractors. The Load cell/computer kit costs approx. $425 (includes freight). Jim Kitson felt he had most of what was needed in materials on his lot and we could obtain the rest from Page Steel. - purchase of the kit approved *Several donated to this at the meeting to help cover the cost. EDGE&TA rules as our core club rules - approved We added and approved two more of our own rules: *Authorized members only may be on the pull track. With the exception of the tractor driver all others on the track must have a safety vest on. *No cell phones in use while working or pulling on the pull track. The following yearly events were agreed upon *July 4th Pull from 1pm to 4pm *4th weekend in Sept. Antique Tractor Pull and Machine Show. *It was also decided to have as many just for fun impromptu pulls as possible throughout the year. There has been some suggestion that our next Annual Meeting be during our show dinner in September when we would have the most members in attendance. More on that later.

3 Test & Tune Day - Feb. 6th 2011 Let s just do it, was the consensus early in the week, and we got on the phone and called all the local members. While it didn t work for all of them, we still had a good group for our first test & tune day. Eugene Tucker, Jim Cady, Connie Tibbits (and her horse,) Jim Harding, Rob Gay, Jim & Judy Kitson. After a cold winter, even the weather seemed ready for a short interlude of at least shirt sleeve temperature. Rob Gay brought his Farmall Cub. Jim Harding helped with the track and also pulled with Jim K. and Gene s tractors. Connie brought not only her very well behaved horse, but her 1961 Ferguson TO35 and Gene, his trusty 1955 Ford 861. The track was hard and stayed well packed for the whole afternoon. Judy had her 1958 Ferguson TO35. Rob Gay happily learned how to control the sled and spent most of the afternoon on the side seat. The weather even let us shed our jackets. Jim Cady brought all 3 of his Allis Chalmers, a 1941-B, a 1947-C and a 1952-CA. This was a real test and tune day for him as he was setting them up to take to the Shuaro Show in Glendale the next weekend, where he pulled several times. This was the first time for Connie Tibbits, one of our newer members to try pulling. She enjoyed not only pulling with her Ferguson, but with one of Cady s Allis Chalmers as well. While this was basically just a for fun club event, we still drew the attention of some of Big Lake s customers including a man from Cuba and a couple from France, who were curious not only about the tractors but Connie s horse. Since our show last Sept. we have drawn quite a bit of attention with our onsite static display and equipment. We have also been pleased to find interest growing in our club and activities. Don and his wife live in Flagstaff, a short distance from Mary s Café N ANGEL LN. phone cell If you are interested or just want to see some great stuff, give him a call and stop by the next time you are in Flagstaff. Old Iron Chitchat Jim Cady, Gene Tucker, and Jim & Judy Kitson went from Page to the Shuaro Show in Glendale. After setting up in Glendale on Thursday they took a quick trip on Friday to Robson s Mining Town, just southwest of Wickenburg, AZ and open only for that week. Saturday back at Shuaro Ranch, they met up with Don Meakin, Tom and Bill Trainor who were showing some of their engines in the old engine display. Also Paul Groeper, Richard Stratz and Bea Harriman from Phoenix, who had visited our Page event last Sept. Jim Cady had taken two of his Allis Chalmers. They did very well in the pull and he and Gene Tucker fit right in to the parade on Sunday. Gene was only able to come down for the event on Sunday but got a call from Kitson on Saturday to be sure to bring some extra cash as there was one great buy in a quite rare late teens Cascade one-cylinder, two-cycle, water-cooled drag saw including the 8 saw blade. He did and a deal was struck with owner and the saw is now part of Gene s old iron collection. See photos on back page. Map to R.W. Erickson Farm PAT&MC 5 Issue 1

6 Report on the Buckeye, AZ Show - Oct 22-24, 2010 By Richard J. Stratz, Sr. a true (I bleed green) John Deere enthusiast. Our show started with a Tractor Drive on Friday, Oc. 22 at 10:00 a.m. We met at the City Hall in Litchfield Park. The drive, which consisted of 37 tractors, started about 11:30 a.m., took about five hours and covered miles of rural and canal roads, with a late afternoon stop at a large dairy, where 4800 cows are milked 24 hours a day. Please note the Port 0 Potty which is really portable! You know, us old people can t be too far away from the bathroom. We arrived, safely, at the showground's in Buckeye, where we were served chicken and dumplings. Only one tractor had to be hauled part of the way due to fuel problems. Then next two days involved tractor pulling, parades and exhibits. We were blessed with perfect weather and a large crowd to see it all. Our Stationary Engine members showed up in full force as well as some new equipment dealers. John Deere even brought new six row cotton harvester which was as big as a combine. The photos are numbered in the lower right hand corner. Here is a little information about some of them. 1.A 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee, belongs to Lowell, the Auctioneer. Note the platform with a podium and P.A Sparkers on a pole, all mounted to the three point hitch which he uses at auctions. The John Deere 630, behind the Ford is also his. It s the one I drove in the tractor drive, the parade and a full tractor pull. It is a very nice! Great restoration job! 2.Lining up. 3.Lowell, in the flag shirt, is on the AZEDGE&TA Board. 4.This beautiful John Deere AR adds some class to the Port o Potty - another classy J.D. 5.Older restoration. 6.Very rare 1937 Silver King. Sharp! We also had a 1934 Silver King. When they were first introduced, they were called Plymouth because they were made in Plymouth, Ohio. Chrysler Corp. Put an end to the name. 10.The line is getting longer. 11.And longer. 12.They kept showing up! 13.Mid to late 1930 s J.D. Note skeleton near wheels. 14.This is our Club Pulling Sled. It has no engine, so it must be pulled back to the start line by another tractor. A computer tells the announcer what is happening immediately. 15.Yup! That s me pulling with the Any questions? After the Pull. That s a 1939 F-20 Farmall beside me. Dad bought one just like it except it came on steel rear wheels. Our Club J.D. Thrashing Machine is in the background. We thrashed both days time for the Parade! Special High Clearance Model Now you re talking MONEY! about $150K. Yes, it s new!! PAT&MC 6 Issue 1
