1 The Greyhound VOLUME 50 I SSUE 2 FEBRUARY 2017 The Official Newsletter of the Lone Star Early Ford V-8 Club Regional Group #6 Of The Early Ford V-8 Club of America A word from the Pres INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Word From the Pres 1 Minutes 2 Sunshine Report 3 Ladies Corner 4 Karla Morton 5 Ford Museum 5 Your Club 5 Painted Church Tour 6 Texas Tour Info 8 New Members 10 Board Meeting Min 10 Anniversaries / Birthdays 10 Bridgeport Drive 11 Car Shows / Swap Meets 14 Important Dates 15 SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST: Here it is, February, and we have one meeting behind us and 11 more to go. We have so many enthusiastic people in the club that this will seem like a short year, or at least I hope so. At the Board meeting we discussed some of the items that we will be doing this year. Billy Williams has set up some type of activity for the next 6 months and it looks like they will all be good ones. From now to the Texas Tour we will be concentrating on getting ready and what to take on the trip to make sure that you can make it with a minimum amount of trouble. As you well know these vehicles are anywhere from 64 to 85 years old and there is always room for something to happen. This is what makes the journey worth traveling. You can look on the side of the highway and can see some modern iron setting on the side of the road. So even if you have a new car, you still have the possibility of having a breakdown. The good thing about our cars over the modern iron is that they are repairable with just some simple tools and not a computer and an electrical engineering degree. The item that everyone has to keep in mind is that most of the time you are surrounded by people that want to help you repair the car. I can say that even when you do breakdown, you have to fight the people away from the vehicle in order to work on it. If nothing else, you will be able to have more suggestions than you can handle. The one thing that you have to remember is that you will not be left behind. Speaking of the Texas Tour, enclosed in the newsletter is the information on the Texas Tour. If you have not gotten your reservations or signed up for the tour, you need to do so as soon as possible. I have been there for an earlier Texas Tour and it was a lot of fun. The drives around this area are breath taking and not hard to maneuver. I think that you will have a blast. If your old iron is not working and you have to take your modern iron, we can probably get you a ride in old iron. If not you will see a lot and have a lot of fun. 4 PAGE 4 Ladies Corner THE GREYHOUND Ingredients FUDGE LOVERS STRAWBERRY TRUFFLE CAKE Cake 1 box Betty Crocker SuperMoist chocolate fudge cake mix Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box Ganache Filling and Topping 2 packages (8 oz each) semisweet baking chocolate, finely chopped 1 1/3 cups whipping cream 1/4 cup butter (do not use margarine) 2 cups cut-up fresh strawberries Garnish 6 fresh strawberries, cut in half lengthwise through stem 1/4 cup white vanilla baking chips 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil Directions Heat oven to 350 F (325 F for dark or nonstick pan). Make and bake cake as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, in large bowl, place chopped chocolate; set aside. In 2-quart saucepan, heat whipping cream and butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until butter is melted and mixture comes to a boil. Pour cream mixture over chocolate; stir until smooth. Line bottom of 9-inch spring form pan with waxed paper. Cut cake into 1-inch cubes. In large bowl, beat half of the cake cubes on low speed until cake is crumbly. Add remaining cake cubes and 1 3/4 cups of the ganache (reserve remaining ganache for topping). Beat on low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed until well combined (mixture will look like fudge). Fold in 2 cups cut-up strawberries. Spoon mixture into spring form pan; smooth top. Cover with plastic wrap; freeze about 45 minutes or until firm enough to unmold. Run knife around side of pan to loosen cake mixture. Place serving plate upside down on pan; turn pan and plate over. Frost side and top of cake with reserved ganache. Arrange strawberry halves on top of cake.
5 VOLUME 50 ISSUE 2 PAGE 5 KARLA K. MORTON For those that attended the 2016 Texas Tour and went to the Ladies Lunch or the banquet should recognize Karla as a speaker at both. Here is a photograph of her and her traveling companion, Pontus, as they were on a 100th Anniversary Tour of the National Parks along with fellow Texas poet Alan Birkelbach. This photo was taken in Mesa Verde, CO, in November when they were on tour. The tour will begin again in January. Notice the suitcase with the stickers, this is the suitcase she won at the Texas Tour in Corsicana. She is taking this around the US during the National Parks Tour and will be putting stickers from each National Park that they visit. Once the tour is completed, we will get her to bring this to a meeting and show it off. Ford V-8 Museum vs the Ford Foundation The Ford Foundation was created in 1936 by Henry and Edsel Ford. The Early Ford V-8 Foundation was formed in We now refer to our organization as the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum. There has been some questions in the past about this, and it was suggested that we drop the word "Foundation." Well, it's not that easy or wise to do. That word is part of our organization and needs to remain so. To change or drop it would take a considerable amount of time and money to do so. The IRS granted the V-8 Foundation 501c3 non-profit, educational status 25 years ago. Trying to change that now is not recommended. "The Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum is not affiliated in any way, shape or form with the Ford Foundation, which was established by Henry and Edsel Ford in Any donations of money or gifts in kind to the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum will go to directly to our Museum in Auburn, IN. Nothing will ever go to the Ford Foundation which is headquartered in New York City. Recent internet postings concerning activities of the Ford Foundation should NOT be confused with the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum."
