3 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Well, Spring has Sprung and near as I can tell, the only flowers popping up in my yard are mud ruts from all this snow melt. As much as I love winter, I am ready for the next season and being able to work outside again without my fingers falling off. If you haven t done so already, go get your trucks and cars washed. This winter likely deposited a lot of sand, salt, and whatever the hell these new chemicals are that they are spraying on the road. My truck went from white to black in 5 minutes of power washing. We had a great time at Pfahl s Mack and Antique Truck Restorations. Matt Pfahl was very accommodating and had quite the interesting shop. In the building where we held the meeting, there were trucks (and a bus) being restored in all phases. There was a truck in the beginning phases of disassembly, a truck frame being sprayed in the spray booth, a few trucks being put together, and a couple finished trucks waiting for delivery. We had a great turnout, and being a location further west, we met quite a few new people and had a few members join which was awesome. While members love the traditional meeting venues, it s great to try new places and this was a success. Thanks again Matt, and thanks again to Don Arnauckas for finding and coordinating this meeting. Our Facebook page is rapidly increasing and I expect it to have over 100 followers by the end of the month. If you haven t seen it yet, check it out! I have uploaded pictures from our shows and will continue with more, along with pictures from meeting events and other things. Feel free to post your own pictures, the site only grows from input. We are building the web page as well and at the next meeting I would like to present what has been done so far and discuss ways to make it better. Come prepared with ideas. Which reminds me, next meeting is at Bob West s Garage! JUNE 28 th is our BROOKLYN TRUCK SHOW! For those not counting, that s only 14 weeks away. For some that means getting your trucks ready on the first day that the temperature goes over 65 degrees out and waiting 10+ weeks until the show and for others that means waiting 13 weeks and taking the last week to do a year s worth of upgrades or maintenance to your truck. Either way, drive, push, pull, tow, whatever you have to do because we love seeing them! If you don t have a truck come and check out the trucks, and bring the kids! Most importantly, we need volunteers to help out. In closing, I ll summarize what you all need to do over in the upcoming months. Send me content to upload on the website and Facebook page. Send Don Arnauckas content or stories for the newsletter. Get your truck ready for the spring/summer/fall show season. And as I mentioned in the meeting, if you have an opinion on the Wellington FJ Mack, National is open to suggestions and welcoming feedback on the disposition of the truck. So make your opinion heard in a sound, respectable manner as representatives of the Northeast truck enthusiasts. That s all for now, see you at Bob s in May! -Jonathan Yeomans -PS- A woman s bracelet was dropped on the floor at the meeting, if you re missing one give me a call. I have it and will bring to the next meeting if I don t hear from anyone. MAY 17, 2015 MEETING AT BOB WEST S GARAGE, 425 TURNPIKE ROAD, SOMERS, CT Bob and Bernice will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages. Members are asked to bring a salad, dessert or snacks to share. They will have the grille turned on at Noon. If the weather is nice, we will be outside, so please bring lawn chairs. A definite date and location will be announced in the Newsletter or at the May meeting. 4. The next meeting of the Nutmeg Chapter will be held May 17 th at the home of Bob and Bernice West. STORY TIME or HEY, DID YOU SEE THAT? 1. Winter 2014 The Snow Mobile Jonathan spoke about the 600 miles of trails in New York and Vermont that he and his fiancée explored on snowmobiles this winter and the most dangerous ride of all driving home on the New York Thruway. They were hauling a two place trailer with safety chains, hitch, lights and all safety precautions in place when the trailer carrying the snowmobile unhooked and took its own ride across the thruway onto the median where it came to rest on its side. There were no collisions or injuries and after righting the hauler, they discovered no damage to either it or the snowmobile. After investigation, it was discovered that the aluminum square tubing tongue sheared in half of its own accord. 2. Bob West brought us back to the 1940 s when he was towing a Cab Over Chevy tractor with a chain wrapped around the tailgate of his 1935 Ford Dump truck. Along the way, he looked out the side view to see a truck identical to his Cab Over Chevy pass him by, only then to realize that it was his tractor. No bad ending here either. There being no further business, this meeting adjourned at 2:55 PM. Respectfully submitted, Betty Jay, Secretary 5

6 Thanks to Matt Pfahl for hosting our last meeting. Members enjoyed looking at his vast collection of memorabilia and seeing his work- in-progress including the Greyhound Scenic-Cruiser, the Mack LTL ready for delivery to the Keystone Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights, VA; a Brockway V-12 and a Mack for Hallamore in Mass. Members enjoyed a delicious lunch in Matt s warm garage. 6

7 The Ruth Bonney Dream Fund A $ donation from Nutmeg Chapter was made to the Ruth Bonney Dream Fund (ARC). Bernice West thought members would be interested in knowing how that money is spent so she asked Laurie Desjardin, Director of Residential Services to explain the mission and purpose of the fund and she graciously provided the following: The Ruth Bonney Dream Fund was established to enable Allied s Rehabilitation Residential participants to join in a greater variety of cultural, recreational, travel and other opportunities in and around their communities. The fund is managed by the CFO of Allied Community Services and is overseen by a committee that reviews all requests. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to benefit Allied s participants. The fund was established to honor the memory of Ruth Bonney who was a visionary teacher of people with disabilities who saw the potential in everyone. Some of the dreams we have seen come true since the fund was established two years ago are a therapy swing in our sensor room, concert tickets to see Rascal Flatts, a trip to see the New York Yankees and the Red Sox play at Yankee Stadium. Also, the fund provided a bedroom set and a reading chair and helped two participants with medical bills and some much needed bedding. The fund helped two of the community living arrangements adopt a dog, Bo and a cat named Midnight. Many thanks from all of us for your generous donation. This will enable us to further our mission of making dreams come true. Bernice West presenting check to Carol Bohnet, CEO (left) and Laurie Desjardin, Dir. of Residential Services. 7
