5 BADGER BANNER PAGE 5 State Director s Message Kip Cushing, Wisconsin State Director That was a nice snow storm we had for our Kiel meeting, hope everyone made it home safely. Thanks for the food Marty - Well Done - it was all good. The meeting was good too. I pretty much covered the new Logo that is being introduced. There was a to the Executive Board which I got as State Director asking if we would be interested in purchasing a 3x5 flag of the Old logo or one of the New Logo. I don t know if the State Association would be interested in either one to fly at State functions. A one sided 3x5 flag runs $60 plus tax and shipping costs, a 2 sided flag runs $110 plus tax and shipping, for those members of the executive board and members at large interested. If you would be interested in either please let me know. That price I heard may only be good for a week or two and is subject to change. I priced one out at Dover Flag in Racine and she gave me a price of $90 for a one sided and didn t recommend the two sided which is two flags sewn together for twice the price of one. FYI Don t forget to vote for Trustee s in April. The election will again be done by for those that the national office has and snail mail for those the office does not have. The March Camping Today will have a short paragraph on their platform and themselves. Please, join us this year at the Get Acquainted Campout. It is will be held again at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn on Memorial Day Weekend. At this time we are planning on furnishing a supper on Saturday Night followed by a campfire. I will have corn hole boards available for a little competition during the day. We also want you to please help us by attending the Great Lakes Regional Campout at the Brown County Fairgrounds in DePere on the Fox River. We will be holding our State Campvention in June there to finalize all plans and who will be doing what and where we need help yet. I would like as many members as possible to attend even those of you who have not had an opportunity to join us at past campouts. Set aside August 1 st - 5 th on your calendars to join in on the fun and fellowship planned for this big campout. Remember this is a Regional and we will have guests from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky joining us at this campout. We will be promoting it at the RV Show, the Retiree Rally in March, and the National Campvention in July. Speaking of the Retiree Rally in Tallahassee, FL March 19 th 23 rd, if you just retired this year and are excited to do something, come join the three couples that are going. We would love to have you join us for some fun and games and entertainment for a week in Florida. The registration form is in Camping Today or you can go on line and get one off the FCRV.ORG web site.

6 BADGER BANNER Foxtrotter News Dahle Enneper Greetings from the Foxtrotters, We had a great time at our last meeting. It was wonderful to see everyone. Getting excited with all this nice weather. Soon we should be getting all of our campers ready to start off another great season of camping! Looking forward to spending time visiting with everyone around the campfire. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter and think Spring, it s coming!!! Also our deepest sympathies go out to Judi and her family on the loss of her sister, Bobbie. PAGE 6 WISCOWS MOO NEWS Art Kruegel Here comes Peter Cotton tail, hopping down the bunny trail, Hipi De Hop, Hipi De Hop he comes! HEY, wait a minute, he stopped by my flower bed to smell my flowers! HEY, he is not smelling my flowers, he is EATING THEM! Anybody interested in some rabbit stew cooked in my cast iron kettle? The WISCOWs held their winter meeting on January the Machine Shed. Most all attended and enjoyed a meal together before the meeting. They heard some disappointing news in that Joe & Karen will be giving up their camping due to their health concerns. We did enjoy our weekends with them! Karen was also our Recording Secretary, and will be replaced by Jo Ann Wolinger, (Thanks for stepping up to help us out, Jo Ann) The WISCOW s fired up their camping outings for In addition to the Badger State campouts, they set the location for their Labor Day weekend to Black Hawk (C.O.E.) near DeSoto, on the Mississippi River, and moved the weekend for their Celebration camp out to the 4th weekend in September. (Instead of the third weekend.) All of us are looking forward to help making the FCRV Regional Camp County Fair Grounds successful. Looking forward to enjoying an excellent camping season in 2018!

7 BADGER BANNER PAGE 7 Disaster Awareness & Safety Awareness Training (DASAT) Art Kruegel Writing this while on our winter vacation for So far, all is going well, no break down s (except for a burned out directional light) and the weather is good. Had a conversation with another snow birder, this morning, (No names, please!) about a break down he had. Not saying that if he would have done anything different, the out come would have been different, (The alternator still did not work!) BUT, if he would have stayed aware of his how his motor home was operating, he may have noticed that the alternator was not working, (The volt meter was showing -12 volts instead of the 14+ volts needed to keep the battery charged)) and not needed a tow off the Interstate. (They most likely would have still have had a 4 day delay awaiting parts.) What I am saying, the driver must stay aware of how the vehicle is operating and have an ideal of what needs to be done when something happens. I hope the information I handed out about our driving habits at the BSA meeting in Kiel was helpful. (The only way it will be helpful is if you actually read it and totaled your results!) Remember, (as Smoky the Bear says) only you can make the change to correct some bad/poor driving habits that you may have. Sometimes it may take a gentle nudge from your co-pilot to bring a concern to your attention. Whatever it takes, stay alert at all times while driving. If you were unable to attend the meeting in Kiel, I will have some of this information available at out next BSA meeting. I know I have said this before, but I think it is worth repeating. When you get ready to wake up your R.V.: 1. Do not forget to check the expiration dates on the stuff in your medicine cabinet. Some will have expiration dates, some will not, but if it does not look right to you, replace it. 2. Flush your potable water system, especially if you used anti-freeze in the lines. No matter who did the winterizing, it does not take much to forget a valve and get anti- freeze in you water heater. (Happened to me last fall!) I feel it is best to use the time proven way of sanitizing, a ¼ cup of bleach and fill the system, let it set for a day, and flush with water. (Most R.V. manuals have this procedure explained in detail) 3. Check your tires. I don t know why, but one of my tires had only 40 psi. I brought it up to 80 psi, and it is holding (so far??) but I check the psi every morning before we leave. 4. Check your electrical system. I needed to change my batteries this spring. They were good last fall, kept a charger on them over the winter, but they were bad this month. Also just make sure the entire system is working properly. (No mice eaten wires!) This is just a quick check list. I know from experience that it is easier to fix a broken thing (anything) at home than on the road. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road again!

9 BADGER BANNER PAGE GREAT LAKES REGIONAL The 2108 Great Lakes Regional will be held on August 1-5 at the Brown County Fairgrounds in DePere, WI. There are many things to do and see in the area. Lambeau Field Stadium Tours and the Packer Hall of Fame are a must for visitors to the Green Bay area. For information on times and prices check the website: Family night 2018 (it is actually a practice session) has not yet been announced. In the past, it has been held on the first Saturday in August. This is a chance for the general public to experience Lambeau Field from the stands. The National Railroad Museum is only blocks away from the fairgrounds. It is very interesting and offers rides around the grounds. The Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the nicest ones in Wisconsin. Heritage Hill State Historical Park offers a living history lesson of the early settlers of Northeastern Wisconsin. Door County, with its quaint villages, shops and restaurants is about an hour drive. There are numerous orchards and wineries in Door County. We are also planning many things to do at the fairgrounds. They include cast iron cooking and care, line dancing and music. The usual games of corn hole, ladder golf, washer toss and bean bag baseball will be available. We are working on trying to set up a highway safety seminar given by Schneider Trucking. Meals being planned are Friday morning breakfast and Saturday night supper. Saturday supper is being planned as a tailgate party. We ask that everyone come wearing their favorite sports apparel. (It does not need to be only football). Sunday morning is coffee, juice and donut holes followed by a church service. This is not a complete list of everything and is subject to change. Early bird days are July 30 and 31. The cost for early bird days is the current daily rate of $30.00 per night which includes water and electric. 15 Dear FCRV Member: BADGER BANNER PAGE 15 Camping Today Updated Information As you know our national newsletter, Camping Today, is an electronic monthly publication. It has been one year since we discontinued the bi-monthly paper magazine. Approximately 100 members have been receiving the printed version at an expense of $3.00 per issue (labor, paper, ink, postage). Effective, January 2018, FCRV will no longer be able to continue without recuperating some of the cost. In July the Executive Board, composed of your State and Provincial representatives, voted to offer members only the opportunity to purchase an annual subscription to receive a printed copy of all 12 issues of Camping Today at a rate $20 per year (25) CDN). The subscription will run from January to December. The electronic version of the magazine will continue at no cost as a benefit of membership. There will no longer be any free printed copies of Camping Today. If you wish to receive a printed copy of Camping Today beginning with the January 2018 issue, please complete the subscription form on the back (below) of this letter and return with payment or credit card information to the National Office. The magazine will be a black and white, double-sided printout of the online edition from the office copy machine. This service will be available to members only.
