2 D ear Leaders and Parents, Thank you for choosing Gamehaven Scout Reservation (GSR) as your highlight for Cub Scout summer adventures. Gamehaven Council has a great tradition of providing engaging and quality programs to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts year-round. GSR is located in Rochester, MN on 262 acres, featuring a pool, lake, themed structures, and even an obstacle course. There are a variety of programs taking place this summer including: Pack weekends, day camp, Webelos weekends, family camping, Webelos outpost, and Cub Scout summer daze. Gamehaven Council and GSR camp staff are excited to announce that camp this year will be dramatically changing: Knights of the Round Table have taken over! An evil knight has taken over the GSR Kingdom and we need your help to defeat him! The staff and leadership have been working hard to ensure that your Scout, Den or Pack has the best time possible and we are looking to improve your experience in any way we can. I am enthusiastic and privileged to serve as this summer s Camp Director and the Gamehaven Council s Program/Exploring Specialist. I am striving to create new outdoor adventures for all Scouts, uphold quality programs in place, and ultimately utilize GSR to it s greatest potential. 3 GSR Camp Rules Please read these to the Scouts 1. Follow the Scout Law, Scout Oath, and the Outdoor Code. 2. Use the BUDDY SYSTEM at all times. Be sure a Leader knows where you are at all times. 3. Trash can liners must be used in all trash cans. 4. Report any broken equipment to a staff member. 5. Do not store food or beverages in tents. They attract uninvited guests. 6. All fires must be attended at all times unless they are out cold. Burn only burnable materials in fires. (No aluminum, tin foil, Styrofoam, etc.) 7. Fires may be built only in designated areas approved by the Camp Director or Ranger. 8. Each patrol is responsible for the cleanliness of the area, and empty trash cans when necessary. (Tie the bag, put it next to the entrance of your campsite, and if necessary get a new bag from the commissary assistant or any staff member.) 9. Quiet time/lights-out 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. 10. Below is some information for new parents and leaders: For canoeing or kayaking we have Gamehaven Lake, and for swimming we have a pool to take a dip in and cool off. Camp provides family activities to help foster family relationships and create memories that last a lifetime. Campers are assigned to a campsite and stay in platform wall tents with toilets and hot shower facilities nearby. Adults and youth sleep on cots with a mattress. Homesickness is rare because the program is packed full. If it does happen, the staff is trained and ready to give extra individual attention. If parents cannot take the entire time off from work, their son can still attend with their unit. Scouts want to be at camp! Parents are encourage to rotate their stays. Camp helps to develop character, introduce new friends, teach valuable life skills, and helps boys discover new interests. 10 3

4 Summer Programs and Dates PACK YOUR PACK WEEKEND All Cub Scouts are invited to come on a Friday evening and stay until Sunday afternoon. This is two days and two nights of fun in the sun. Enjoy archery, BB gun shooting, nature hikes, and more. Plan on doing some star gazing and learning about galaxies far, far away. DATES: June 24th 26th or July 1st 3rd TIME: Friday 6pm Sunday 3pm COST: Youth $115, Adult $75 SAVE! Register by May 14th: Youth $100, Adult $65 CUB DAY CAMP This day camp is for ALL Cub Scouts. Come to camp for the day. Enjoy archery, swimming, BB gun shooting, nature hikes, and more. Lunch will be served. DATES: July 6th or July 7th TIME: 8am 3pm COST: Youth $35, Adult $20 SAVE! Register by May 14th: Youth $30, Adult $15 CUB SUMMER DAZE Four fun days of summer camp open to all Cub Scouts. There is no overnight. During this session you will have days for swimming, archery, games, BB shooting, nature hikes, and more. Lunch is provided each day. Pick one day or pick them all. DATES: August 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th TIME: 8am 3pm COST: Youth $35/day, Adult $20/day SAVE! Register by May 14th: Youth $30/day, Adult $25/day 4 Miscellaneous Camp Information Patrol Names Each campsite will be given a patrol name, which they will operate by during their stay at Camp. Getting used to being a patrol is part of preparing for Boy Scouts. Each patrol name is related to follow this summer s theme. No Flames in Tents The tents we use in camp are made of canvas and are treated to be waterresistant. They are very flammable. NO candles, kerosene lamps, propane lanterns, etc. are to be used in tents. This is a BSA regulation. Please use only battery operated flashlights and lanterns in the tents. If your personal tent is not labeled with No Flames in Tent please contact the Camp Director or Ranger who will provide you with a clip on label. ALL tents MUST be labeled. Shoes in Camp Nature provides many things that can cut feet. Shoes must be worn at all times in camp. There are only three exceptions: in bed, in the shower, and in the pool. Litter Camp is a beautiful place. Nothing can destroy the scenery more than a piece of litter on the ground. As good Scouts, be sure to pick it up and throw it away properly. Parking Policies Cars may not be taken into camp to unload equipment. Moving vehicles present a hazard to campers on the road. Authorized camp vehicles must maintain a 10-mph speed limit on all camp roads. NO car is allowed beyond the parking area without approval from the Camp Director or Ranger. Trading Post The trading post is available for souvenirs and treats. Please be aware that the trading post operator s job does not include policing what items are purchased. The candy consumption is your responsibility. The purchase of knives DOES require an adult s permission. Emergency Procedures For all emergencies the procedure is the same. You will hear the camp siren and/or airhorn. Upon hearing this signal, immediately head to your assigned shelter. Once there conduct a head count to confirm you have everyone in your group. Report to a staff member the results of your head count. Shower House Hours Youth Staff: 10:31 pm until 7:00 am Youth Campers: 7:01 am until 10:30 pm We ask that everybody please honor these hours. 9

5 Gamehaven Scout Reservation Cub Scout Overnight Camping Guide Welcome to Gamehaven Scout Reservation! You are bound for an outdoor adventure full of FUN, EXCITEMENT, LEARNING, CHALLENGES, FRIENDSHIP, and FELLOWSHIP. Our Camp staff hopes that each Scout will take something home with him in heart, mind and spirit. This guidebook is meant simply as a guide to the policies and procedures of Gamehaven Scout Reservation. As adult leaders, we want to work together with you to provide these Scouts with a safe, fun, and memorable experience. Scheduling The main schedule gives an overview of the activities, locations and times while you are here at camp. The program schedule shows the times that program areas will be available and when camp wide activities are scheduled. Responsibility List: Youth obeying the camp rules. Remember to follow through with any consequences you set. See Gamehaven Scout Reservation rules- pg. 10 Buddy system in all areas of camp. All Cub Scouts staying together. Two-deep leadership; avoid all one-on one situations with youth. Keep the campsites and trails clean. Have patrol activities on time. Give program input and feedback. Have staff assist with homesick Cub Scouts All medications are kept in the Commissary and will be administered at meal times. Train any adult leader that comes to take your place Campers who need to leave early or for part of the camp session must sign out in the Administration Building on the camper check-in/check-out form. Insure youth protection policies are in place. Summer Programs and Dates FAMILY CAMPING Hey Cub Scouts! Invite your mom, dad, and siblings to sleep under the stars with you and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Meals will be provided along with swimming, BB shooting, archery, games, and more. DATES: July 29th-31st TIME: Friday 6pm Sunday COST: Youth $115, Adult $75 SAVE! Register by May 14th: Youth $100, Adult $65 WEBELOS OUTPOST WEEKEND This is a great weekend for second year Webelos to attend. The primary focus will be to learn more about camping and fine tuning outdoor skill areas that will help in the transition to Boy Scouts. DATES: August 5th 7th TIME: Friday 6pm Sunday 3pm COST: Youth $115, Adult $75 SAVE! Register by May 14th: Youth $100, Adult $65 WEBELOS WET & WILD WEEKEND The primary focus for this weekend is aquatics. Work on improving your swimming skills, as well as learn more about paddling sports. Stay cool in the water on hot July days.
